Luke Adams

Hey guys, I may have to duck out a few minutes early today, so let's get started here a few minutes early...
BrianD

Most likely outcome of Ben Simmon's off-season? I lean towards him staying in Philly, not because of the team's desire to keep him, but because no one is gonna meet the Sixers asking price.
Luke Adams
11:59
That's the way I'm leaning right now too. Morey was burned a couple times in Houston selling low on key player (most notably Chris Paul) and I don't think he'll be eager to trade Simmons if he's only going to get 50 cents on the dollar.

Does it make any sense for the Cavs to deal the #3 pick for the Thunder's 3 first round picks?
Luke Adams
12:00
I don't think so. The Cavs need a franchise cornerstone more than they need three more solid-to-good young players. The only scenario in which it makes sense is if Cleveland is really high on Kuminga or Barnes and feels better about taking one of those guys at No. 6 than a Mobley/Green/Suggs type at No. 3. But I just don't see it.
TOM THE RAPTOR
12:01
Thanks for the chat time !!  Why would the Raptors be interested in James Wiseman and Picks 7 and/or 14   for Pascal Siakam ??  How would the Warriors even make that work financially ??   Thank you.
Luke Adams
12:02
There's theoretically a way to make the money work without including Andrew Wiggins, but I think it would require the Warriors to trade at least six players (ie. Wiseman, 7, 14, Looney, two min-salary guys), which probably isn't practical. So it'd have to include Wiggins.
12:03
From there, you could make a decent case for it from the Raptors' perspective -- Wiggins is more of a pure scorer than Siakam (and has a shorter contract), Wiseman gives you a center of the future, and you get the opportunity to add a bunch of lottery talents to a core that still includes VanVleet, OG, and Trent.

Any possibility the sixers can get Jarrett Allen to back up Embiid? Maybe in a Sexton/Simmons deal?
Luke Adams
12:05
Hard to envision. Besides the fact that the Cavs will want to keep him, Allen would also have some say in any trade as an RFA. Can't see him signing off on being a backup indefinitely.

12:05
Odds of Dame getting traded and if he does who is the most logical landing spot
Luke Adams
12:07
The odds of Dame getting traded before he requests it are basically zero. So it's a matter of figuring out how likely he is to ask for a trade this offseason -- that's certainly possible, but well below 50/50 in my opinion. My gut says he'll want to see how things go with Billups before doing anything drastic.
12:08
If he does get dealt, the Sixers would go after him hard. The Blazers could probably get Simmons and a bunch of other stuff. If they prefer a harder reset, I bet the Pelicans would offer a ton of first-rounders.

Keep seeing all these Lillard trade scenarios. Doesn’t it seem more likely for the Blazers to trade C. J.?
Luke Adams
12:08
Absolutely. Would be surprised if they don't seriously explore that this summer.

If Detroit has Cade Cunningham, Saben Lee, and Killian Hayes, what is your decision on Cory Joseph’s contract (only $2.4 million of $12.6 million is guaranteed)? In 502 minutes with Detroit, Cory Joseph averaged 12 PPG, 5.5 assists and his +/- was +4.
Luke Adams
12:11
I like Joseph, but $12.6MM isn't really a bargain for him and I don't see him as part of the long-term plans in Detroit. If the Pistons do guarantee his salary, it's probably just because they feel like they'll be able to move him in a trade for positive value sooner or later.

If you were in charge, would you pick up the team option of $8.1 million for 2022/2023 for Jarrett Culver?
Luke Adams
12:12
I wouldn't feel great about it, but I'd do it. He's only 22 -- there's some untapped potential there. And if he doesn't take a major step forward next season, an $8MM expiring contract isn't that hard to move.

Your finals pick?

Suns in 6
Sixers

Harris and Hill for (sign and trade) Conely and Joe Ingles. Who hangs up first and why?
Luke Adams
12:15
I think I like it a little better for the Sixers than the Jazz, given Hill's injury history and the fact that Harris isn't exactly a lockdown defender, but it's an interesting idea.

If Jazz can't keep Conley, where does he end up?
Luke Adams
12:17
New York or Chicago seem like the best bets -- they're the teams that have holes at PG and will have cap space. There are some sign-and-trade possibilities (like the one in the last question) but it'll be tricky to find a good deal where the Jazz feel comfortable taking on a significant amount of money.
12:18
I do think there's probably a 75% chance Conley and Utah just work something out.

Is there any chance with the 39th pick in the 2021 NBA Draft, the Sacramento Kings select Marcus Bagley?
Luke Adams
12:18
It's more likely that the Kings start the 2021/22 season with no Bagleys than two Bagleys.
The Devil

What percentages do you give for OKC trading up from #6, remaining at #6, and trading down from #6?
Luke Adams
12:20
Staying at #6: 65%
Trading down: 20%
Trading up: 15%
(I'm sure they'd love to trade up, but it's going to be a challenge getting into the top four this year, given the players available there.)
RapsMan

Lowry in a sign and trade for Kuzma, Harrell and Lakers 1st this year....sounds good for both teams. Lakers clear out salary, get their pg, don't have to overpay Schroeder and Raps get 2 starters they need with Siakam out for awhile...Kuzma could be the scorer they have been looking for...
Luke Adams
12:22
It's not outrageous for either side. I'm not a big Kuzma fan though and I'm not sure the Raptors would be enthusiastic about taking him on for three years. If Toronto isn't getting a player or two it really likes in a sign-and-trade, it might make more sense to just let Lowry walk and use cap room to go after a free agent instead.

Without the 1st Round Pick landing high enough to keep it, the Bulls appear to have LaVine and Vucevic locked in as their core for the near future. The late season results were not promising. Not much D. PG play was brutal. Patrick Williams seems like a promising wing, although Markkanen looks gone. What do you think the team will be able to do through the trade/free agency market to address their issues? Does Coby White have a fit or is he a 6th man, any trade value?
Luke Adams
12:24
Landing a point guard should - and will - be the top priority. Getting a good two-way player at that position (Mike Conley, Lonzo Ball, etc.) would really help stabilize the starting five. I don't hate Coby White but I don't think a starting backcourt of him and LaVine is viable.
Gerald Wilkins

Mitchell Robinson, a 2nd round pick, played 853 minutes of the 860 total minutes played by Knicks’ who were selected in the 2nd round. Three undrafted Knicks’ players played a total of 102 minutes. What is the purpose of the G League team, the Westchester Knicks?
Luke Adams
12:27
It's unrealistic to expect much out of most second-rounders and UDFAs, and that issue is exacerbated when Tom Thibodeau is your head coach and the G League season is nearly nonexistent. Maybe the Knicks should be getting more out of their G League team, but this probably isn't the right year to pick on them.

Is a Porzingis for Wiggins based trade plausible for both sides?
Luke Adams
12:29
I could see the case for it. Porzingis hasn't been a great fit in Dallas, but he's the sort of player the Warriors may feel like they could get more out of (which was part of the thinking behind the D-Lo/Wiggins swap to begin with). I'd be a little surprised if the Mavs are ready to wave the white flag on the KP experiment and make that deal straight up though.
Jorge Diaz
12:29
Whose the future at C, Wendell Carter or Mo Bamba? Or is Isaac an option as a stretch/small-ball 5?
Luke Adams
12:31
I'm higher on Carter than Bamba for now. By the time the Magic get back to the playoffs though, it's very possible neither one will be the starter.
