As noted above, I'd be pretty stunned if Giddey accepts his QO. It would be a bit of a disaster for the Bulls, but it's just hard to see him sacrificing upwards of $80MM+ in guaranteed money.

The Grimes case is interesting. When the Sixers traded for him in February, it was more about getting out of the tax than it was about securing a long-term cornerstone. He was a bit of a revelation down the stretch, but I still don't get the sense the 76ers want to spend huge money on him or that they'd be that upset if he takes the QO.

Kuminga accepting the QO wouldn't be great for the Warriors, who have already had to deal with trying to figure out his role for multiple seasons and would have to continue doing so for a while longer.

I don't think any of those teams would retaliate against a player accepting his QO by cutting his minutes, but the Warriors have already made it clear that they believe they're sometimes better off without Kuminga playing a significant role, so that's the one I could see getting messiest

If each team has 4 affiliate player spots and one player on a two-way contract they want to cut then bring in as an in season affiliate, could they cut or trade one of those 4 players during the G-League season to keep in that an-season affiliate player with the team? Also, I notice some players come back just to get their rights traded to a different team, can they do that if there’s less than 4 affiliate players on that team? Or does that count as an-season affiliate? I was wondering when they’d have to sign G-League contract

The answer to the first question is no, that wouldn't be allowed -- once you've set your four affiliate players, that's all you get.

Not quite sure I understand the second part of the question -- if their rights are being traded, it sounds like they'd be a returning-rights player rather than an affiliate player.

What’s Jock Landale’s value/contribution to Memphis this year?

I'm not all that high on Landale and don't expect him to play a significant role for Memphis unless their frontcourt is banged up (which is certainly possible with both JJJ and Edey coming off surgeries!). He's fine in a pinch but is mostly just a depth option.

If he becomes a FA after this season, do you think the chances are higher or lower than 50% that Trae Young leaves Atlanta?

Only East teams I see where he'd fit would be Miami or Brooklyn. In the West, it's Minnesota or Sacramento. I don't really see a great fit anywhere else. That's the main reason I think he hasn't gotten a new contract

It'll depend a lot on how this season plays out. If Young meshes with the new guys and has a big year, I expect Atlanta will make a strong effort to sign them and will be in a better position to do so than most other teams, who either won't have a need for him or won't have the cap space to make a competitive offer.

Since I like what the Hawks did this summer and expect big things from them this year, I'll take the "over 50%" odds. If they fall short of expectations, it definitely opens up the door for Young's departure, but it could still happen via trade (ie. him picking up his 2026/27 option) rather than free agency.

Thanks for the questions today, guys. We're just a few weeks away from training camps getting underway. NBA games are coming!
Have a great week.
