Welcome to Hoops Rumors' live chat for the 2018 NBA Draft!

While this year's draft may not have a trade as impactful as last year's Jimmy Butler deal, the fact that there's even talk about a team creeping up to nab Luka Doncic at No. 3 will be quite sufficient.

Do the Hornets trade kemba walker tonight?
Austin Kent
5:52
I'm really not sure that they do now. There is so much less pressure to do so now that they've punted Dwight Howard's deal. That luxury tax breathing room should appease ownership.
5:53
Mozgov's deal is obviously longer than Dwight's and is pretty rough in its own right but the annual hit is considerably less.
5:54
And I don't know, the fallout to the Kemba Walker trade implications mid-season seemed genuine. I'd like to see Walker stay.

Biggest faller - Wendall Carter?
Austin Kent
5:55
I think that he could be! The range that we've seen him mocked at is pretty drastic. NBA teams have a tendency to go with the intriguing pick, even if a fundamentally sound player like Carter Jr. is available.
Alex Garcia
5:55
Do you see the hawks keeping the third pick and trading up for another potential top 10 pick?
Austin Kent
5:57
That pick seems very much in play. I just relayed the Shams tweet above that Dallas is supposedly backing off of their pursuit of Doncic. The new regime in Atlanta is on a mission to clear cap space and start fresh. While they could certainly use Doncic, I wouldn't be surprised if they leveraged that sort of asset for more future assets.

Which team is most likely to take the Dubs cash for a second round pick?
Austin Kent
6:00
I hope that nobody does! Althought I sorta sympathized with GarPax last summer when they were trying to justify the Josh Bell deal. Sometimes appeasing ownership (in this case, making them a bit of short-term cash) can go a long way in terms of a) not getting fired but also b) getting leeway to dip into the luxury tax when the time comes.

*Jordan Bell!
Brett

Hope people don't sleep on jaren Jackson Jr! High ceiling and can develop on the offensive end. Could be a long time cornerstone for a team like the Hawks, Grizzlies, or Mavs

Also --- Grayson Allen def going to GS at 28.
Austin Kent
6:02
This just seems right. I feel like Allen going to GS at No. 28 would be one of the most exciting late first-round picks we've had in a while.

Which more likely: Michael Porter goes in the top 5, or falls out of the top 10?
Austin Kent
6:03
The general consensus seems to be the latter.
6:04
That being said, we've seen a trend the past five, ten years of just holding players out of action for a year. It's worked so well for Philly that maybe other times will try to get a bargain (MPJ was once regarded as a top pick) and then just spend a year with him rehabbing in a professional environment.

If the Philly rumor is true (packaging 2 lower picks and Fultz to move up), why does everyone assume Fultz has positive value? Physical and/or psychological issues, can't shoot and will already be making over $8 mil next year. IMO that's a negative asset.
Austin Kent
6:06
I definitely see what you're saying here. And I understand the notion that Fultz's value could, theoretically, only drop from here. However, the ceiling we were talking about this time last year may be too irresistible to give up on... just yet.

Do you think Bamba will be the next Rudy Gobert ... or Hasheem Thabeet?
Austin Kent
6:08
I think we're seeing more offensively out of Bamba, including a malleable shooting stroke, than we ever could have hoped to see out of Hasheem Thabeet. That said, he has a long way to go defenisively before he could be lumped in with Rudy Gobert.

Would you like to see NBATV also telvise Draft live to? Draft rotate sites every year like NFL and NHL does? Have Teams come up and announce picks even former players? GM's on the floor to talk Trades?
does it matter
6:10
who do you all think is going #1
Austin Kent
6:10
Whether or not Ayton ends up being the best player in the class, I don't think there's anybody you could take No. 1 without the risk of getting fired.

Who gets traded tonight; Gortat, Leonard, K. Walked?
Austin Kent
6:11
I'd wager on Gortat. It seems like that guy's bags have been packed and waiting for him at the door for a few months now.
Joe
6:11
What do u all think about Leonard tonight
Austin Kent
6:12
I don't think we see any major developments here in that regard.
Eric
6:12
Will anyone take Robert Covington for Christs sake we don't want him and his extension!
Austin Kent
6:14
Well that deal will actually be just $10MM next season, even though he earned $16MM. Although I agree with the sentiment that the extension may end up hurting if/when it comes time to pay their young core.

Phoenix is going to shock the world and take Luca first.
Austin Kent
6:15
They hired his coach!

When the draft start?
Austin Kent
6:16
The broadcast started at 6 CST but it may be 6:30 before we actually see the Suns on the clock.

What are the chances Bamba falls to #7?
Austin Kent
6:18
I don't think that he'll drop that far given his ceiling.
