What do The Pens coaching staff have against Teddy Blueger? I do not get why he has never got a chance with the big club.
Jason Mackey

I don't think they have anything him ... nor do I think the Penguins have anything against any of the other 10 players it's been suggested they have something against. I think they think that Grant and Sheahan can do the job better.

Mackey I can't understand the saga of Daniel Sprong.  Sullivan says he has to work on his game and gives excuse after excuse as to why he's not in the lineup.  So instead of trying to help Sprong improve his game Sullivan sits him in the press box.  Most times when Sullivan plays Sprong he uses him for four or five minutes.  How is this guy ever going to improve his game?  They won't put him on waivers because they know Sprong will be claimed by another team.   The Sprong saga is just so bizarre.

Thank you. After a one-question break I was ready to get back to more talk about a healthy scratch who has four goals in 42 NHL games. ... It is very bizarre, I'll admit. It's quite the standoff we have on our hands. How will it end? Who knows. But I hope it ends soon. Sprong isn't going to get any better sitting up there, and he's not tradeable that way either. If he plays, he could further kill his value. But Sullivan won't play him in a spot where he might actually score. It's a Catch 22.

Do guys often travel with the team if they are injured?  Sid did recently but he was day to day. Had it happened with more long term ones. (Sid’s concussion/ Tangers neck etc) Babcock made a bit of noise with allowing Matthews to travel w the leafs while injured to keep his moral up.
Jason Mackey
1:49
Yeah, that's normal. It depends on the injury, too. With a concussion, Hornqvist stayed home. And if a guy's close, then he's going to stick around because he might rejoin the team at some point. It's pretty much a case-by-case basis, but the Penguins have done similar things, where guys travel to keep their moral up.

Now that Garrett Wilson scored his first point in the NHL.  Does this performance buy him another 40 games to get him point number 2?
Jason Mackey
1:49
Possibly. Although when Hornqvist comes back -- that could be Saturday -- Wilson will go back down, I would think.

Everyone else seems to be giving their 2 cents as to why this team isn't off to the hottest of starts, what do you think about it? Do you think the team needs another top-4 defenseman, etc? Thanks for these :)
Jason Mackey

Even if they needed a top-four defenseman, they're not going to get one right now. Prices are insanely high. I think they're fine, honestly. They're showing signs of live. They defending harder, sacrificing more. Goaltending has been good enough. Need more secondary scoring. I'm not panicking the way most of this chat seems to be.

GMJR has been sniffing around puck-moving defensemen for some time. I don't think they can, or would even want, to move Murray. But trying to get a puck-moving defenseman they can fix on the cheap? They've been trying to do that.

GMJR and HC seem to think the Pens are a fast team.  I disagree.  Your thoughts?
Jason Mackey
1:53
I think they can be. They're not incapable. When they play the right way and get out of their zone quickly, they can play fast. They haven't been doing that enough.

Hi, Jason, what are your thoughts on the JS Dea waiver claim and plans - I see he's been sent to WBS
Jason Mackey
1:54
I like it. I'm glad they did it. I think Dea can help them. Yes, he'll start in Wilkes-Barre, but I wouldn't be surprised if -- assuming he plays well -- he gets a shot in Pittsburgh soon.

With way line one is rolling where do you see Hornqvist slotting in when he returns? I think he is still best on Sids line, not sure I like the fit besides Pearson and Malkin as well.
Jason Mackey
1:55
i think they need to see what they have with Brassard and Kessel. I'm fine with the top line for now. I'd try Hornqvist back with Malkin and Pearson and ride out Brassard and Kessel. Yes, they were bad last night. But I think you need to have some patience with them and let them develop chemistry.

Do you see the penguins turning it on after the holidays as they normally do? Or do you see the lull to continue. I've heard Craig Anderson name thrown around in trade rumors? Any chance we land him?
Harold
1:58
Brassard continues to look lost - when do the Pens move on from him?
Jason Mackey
1:58
If you could link the report that says that, that would be great. In general, I would imagine Ottawa would want picks/prospects. I'm trying to look up Anderson's cap hit, but the Wifi is killing me. But I'm guessing they'd need to send dollars out. Complex trade. I don't see it happening.

Pens fans, it could be worse.  Peter Chiarelli has turned Jordan Eberle into Ryan Spooner... And Matt Barzal into Griffin Reinhardt... and Taylor Hall into Adam Larsson
Jason Mackey
1:58
I think they need to first figure out once and for all if he can play with Kessel. If he can't, yes, I say consider moving on.
Here's an interesting dose of perspective ...

Any rumored names of bottom 6 wingers that the Penguins would be looking at to sure up the 4th line? Grant and Wilson are fine in a pinch, but obviously not long term solutions.
Jason Mackey

Have not heard any concrete names. Sorry Steven.

Heard DK saying on the radio that Murray has a bone fracture. Is that true?

Hey guys, I'm sorry but the Wifi on this plane isn't handling the chat, things keep freezing, and I'm going to have to cut this short. We're also starting our descent. My sincerest apologies. Until next week ...
