Do you think Jim Rutherford and the organization was too lackadaisical in approaching this year with the player departures that occurred? Did they miscalculate the holes those players would leave behind?
Jason Mackey
1:44
Yes and no. I think some of the guys leaving, with what they got, it would have been tough for the Penguins to match. But I do think they undervalued the leadership some of the veterans brought and what Bonino and Cullen did for the third and fourth lines.

Are we perhaps starting to see the limit of Sullivan's imagination?  To cure the absence of scoring against Colorado, he places Hornqvist on left wing with Malkin and Kessel.  He hopes that will force Malkin and Kessel to shoot more.  The Pens have issues.  Malkin's and Kessel's play would be way down that list.
Jason Mackey
1:44
I don't disagree with you, Jerry. But in Sully's defense, his hands are somewhat tied by this roster. They might be trying Hornqvist simply to see if someone like Patrick Maroon, say, would be worth bringing in, should Edmonton be looking to move him.

Would it be bad to trade someone like Phil Kessel or even Malkin now to free up cap space? A blockbuster deal could bring in a big haul.
Jason Mackey
1:45
Would not trade Malkin. He should, and will, return a Penguin. Phil? Different story. I'd entertain it. If you got maximum return, I think you could move on knowing this experiment probably ran its course. And with Sprong coming up, you kind of have Phil Lite anyway.

Why has Hagelin's production dropped so much do you think?
Jason Mackey
1:46
If I knew, Bill, I'd sell my knowings to the Penguins for a lot of money. It's a mystery.

Are we on the start of the down swing for this team. Was the past two years the best we'll see from this group for awhile?
Jason Mackey
1:46
I think it's a little early to make that assertion, but I do think it's a possibility. I think it's something Rutherford and the Penguins are sort of monitoring right now, if in fact it just isn't in the cards. (For the record, I do think they will bounce back. I think the give-a-hoot-meter is just awfully low right now.)
Santa

ho-ho-ho, happy easter!
Jason Mackey
1:47
Hi, Santa. My son Rider says hi, too. He likes trains, trucks and Legos.

Do you see simon staying up or will Kuhn eventually take his spot back?
Jason Mackey
1:47
Simon isn't going anywhere if he keeps this up. He's been excellent and should start tonight on Sid's line.

In your crystal ball, do the pens go shopping with the sens?
Jason Mackey
1:48
Maybe, but not for Karlsson. I know you guys want that to happen. If I was GMJR, I'd be asking about Pageau. Or, hell, see if they wanna move Duchene. Maybe their price is different.
Marc-Andre Fleury
1:48
I'm predicting a shutout, Pens nation...bring your "A" game!
Jason Mackey
1:48
Hi, Marc.

How many licks does it take to get to the center of a tootsie pop?
Jason Mackey
1:48
1,672.

how would you assess the mood/tone of the locker room right now?
Jason Mackey
1:48
Tense. Frustrated. Like they want something good to happen, and soon, and they want to get on a roll and stop having to deal with all of this.

Re "lottery protection," a first round draft pick is traded, but if it ends up in the lottery (i.e. team doesn't make playoffs) or the pick ends up higher than x number (top three, top five) the pick isn't traded until the next year.
Jason Mackey
1:49
I honestly don't know, Frank. I'll have to check on that and get back to you.

What about Mike Hoffman from the Sens as a LW?
Jason Mackey
1:49
I don't think that solves some of the issues we've been talking about. More a small Band-Aid on a big scratch.

A group of engineering students from Purdue University reported that its licking machine, modeled after a human tongue, took an average of 364 licks to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop.
Jason Mackey

That's great that people actually looked at this in a scientific way.

Is it time to move on from letang and get some young talent for the upcoming years
Jason Mackey
1:51
I don't think so. Even if you did decide it was time to move on, I doubt there's an eager market for him right now, at least not compared to what it could be if you let him play his way out of this funk.

I think JR's wants are an above-average 3C and a prime-Kunitz LW.
Jason Mackey
1:51
Ding, ding, ding. Logan, you are very warm.

Do the pens have any interest in Wayne Simonds?
Jason Mackey
1:51
I don't think. Too similar to Hornqvist. Plus, no way Philly would deal inside the division.

How much value does Jarry have in a trade? Could he get a 1st at the draft if he continues doing this good?
Jason Mackey
1:52
He would have good value, but what happen if Murray gets hurt? I think Jarry is too valuable to move when you consider that.

how long is Schultz projected to be out?  It would be nice to get him back and maybe give some of the other defenseman a few games off.  Maybe help reset their games.
Jason Mackey
1:56
I hear ya, but I wouldn't look for Schultz to be back any earlier than early January.
1:57
OK, folks. That does it. Thanks, as always, for participating. Have to walk over to T-Mobile for the Penguins skate. Let's do this again next week!
