There was a lot of talk prior to trading Sprong about him potentially being the replacement for Kessel once his contract runs out. Now that Sprong has been traded, what do you think the plan will be? I love having Phil on the team, but he certainly could price himself out of Pittsburgh with how well he plays.

If things go south for the Penguins -- meaning a first- or second-round exit -- then yeah, same as this summer, I think it would be smart business for GMJR to listen on Kessel while his value is still very high. Yes, it will tick off some fans. Kessel's teammates, too. But they're probably not going to sign him to another contract, and they would be trying to get something for him while the stock is high instead of dealing with any sort of mid-30s regression.

It seems that moving Brassard almost has to be a three team deal again.  Move Brassard to a team in need of a 2C like Winnie, have them move some prospects/pick to Carolina, Freland come here.  Then you still potentially have Oleksiak and Jarry for other moves - like the 3C

Have said that a few times, Eddie. Gonna be hard to pull this one off with just two teams.

Besides a possible brassard trade will the penguins make any other trades?

As I just typed, the defenseman trade (and maybe Jarry) could be separate from Brassard.

Are they inherently not good enough with Riley Sheahan slotted in the #3 hole if Brassard is moved?

It depends on who's wit him on that line. If they committed to Sheahan, it would probably be because they added someone like Ferland on the left side. I don' think any of us know how good that line can be. It's not totally about that specific spot. They just need their third line as a whole to be better.

Why do you think fans at large dislike Brassard more, because of his disappointing on ice contribution or because two fan favorites were traded for him? (who weren't that good, but that's neither here nor there)

I think because the trade -- and how it was perceived, actually rightly so, too -- was supposed to be such a game-changer, and it's just been a dud. The Penguins were supposed to be so dominant with Brassard at 3C, and they've never come close to perception, if that makes sense.
OK, folks. That does it for today. Thanks so much for participating. Let's do this again next week!
