Really felt like last night that Flyers targeted Horny and hit him extra hard at any spot on the ice (not just net front). Was this talked about by Flyers, to target him early?
Jason Mackey

The way Hornqvist plays, he opens himself up to that. It wasn't a Flyers thing. Any other team in the league will do that. Hornqvist is well-aware that every other team in the league hates him. It's what makes him so effective. The Flyers will continue to try and get physical with him, he's not going to back down, and I would expect Washington or Columbus to do the same next round.

Any idea why Crosby (and maybe others) didn't shave before starting the playoffs?
Jason Mackey

Crosby was on a bit of a scoring run. That's sometimes it. But I just think he's more comfortable carrying a bit of a beard. Or at least scruff. ... Kuhnhackl ... I legitimately thinks he wants to match Ian Cole, so he got a bit of a running start. Rust can grow a beard in an afternoon.

Great win last night. Am still concerned about the face-off won percentage being so low for us. Much to do about nothing? Thanks for your Chats Jason.
Jason Mackey

Indeed. Faceoffs are overrated. They matter, but not in a huge way. Being a good faceoff team rarely corresponds to playoff success. It's actually kind of weird.

Happy that you shouldn't have to talk anyone off a ledge today?
Jason Mackey

Doesn't matter to me. There's a segment of the fan base that would panic after a 10-game winning streak. I'm here either way, listening to some Dead.

What is the most stressful part about your job and how do you cope with it? Travelling, missing your family, deadlines..?
Jason Mackey
2:02
Missing family, easily. ... Yesterday, for example, was a gameday. I'm gone or catching a nap for 90 percent of it. ... Home late, radio hit in the morning, see my son for 20 minutes, he's off to school, I'm working today ... Get home, will hopefully spend a couple hours together ... Bedtime and another gameday. Then a bunch of back and forth across the state coming up. ... I'm not complaining. I'm incredibly lucky and love what I do. But it's the logistical stuff: traveling and booking planes/hotels and putting in the necessary hours and still making sure my family knows who I am and that I care about them, even if I'm not always around.

Jason, First, as a long time doubter of Rust's value, he continues to prove me wrong.  If you had to assign a letter grade for each defenseman's play last night, what would those be please?
Jason Mackey
2:04
They had a shutout. Not to be a smart &%$, but how do you not give them all an A? I thought Letang was really good. I also liked what Oleksiak did. He mixed it up quite a bit. Sort of recognized his role and what he could bring. Dumoulin and Maatta are so fun to watch because they're smart, have good sticks and can handle themselves one-on-one.
please don't be hurt

Heard Murray was absent from practice today?  any cause for alarm?
Jason Mackey
2:04
None at all. He's fine.

How was the locker room atmosphere last night and this morning? In the post-game interviews it seemed as though everyone said the right thing, about how this was just one game and they need to reset. Does a blowout like last night breed overconfidence that the Flyers could exploit?
Jason Mackey
2:05
There's zero overconfidence with this team right now. Honestly, there was no difference between last night and today and, say, December. The Penguins are viewing this as having a long road ahead. A lot of encouraging signs as they pertain to Friday.

Who do you think Philly goes to in net after last night?
Jason Mackey
2:05
I think they stick with Elliott, but if I was Hakstol, I'd go with Mrazek.

Mackey.  Did you lose it last night on Geno's goal or Sid's whack out of the air goal?  Or do you have to remain objective and be professional and allow no emotions to show if you are covering the game for the PG?
Jason Mackey
2:07
I and everybody else covering the game remained objective. There was zero reaction in the press box. All of us were impressed, but no more than we would have been had Claude Giroux or Travis Konecny done the same exact thing. We appreciate the hockey aspect of it, but we don't root for players -- only quick games and no late lead changes or over ... never mind.
OK, folks. Thanks so much for participating. Always love these things. We'll chat against next week. Enjoy Game 2!
