I think it would be a mistake to move on from Hagelin unless there’s a really speedy replacement who PKs and is great on the forecheck...Rust is the only other related player...Hags helps so much in the playoffs...even at the risk at losing him for nothing, the Pens should keep him thru next year.  Sheary, however, is more expendable and not worth his contract
Jason Mackey
2:10
If that's the case, then I think they're going to have a tough time trading Sheary, no? I can see your line of thought with Hagelin, though.

What were your thoughts on the Marchand multiple licking incidents? If he was a Penguin player I would be so ashamed of his childish antics. He's a heck of a player but he doesn't seem like he's all there upstairs.
Jason Mackey
2:11
Yeah, that was really weird. I hope we're done with that.

What would Rutherford get for Simon? He'd get the assurance that Sullivan won't play him on the first line anymore, that's more than enough.
Jason Mackey
2:11
Ha. Good point. I think Simon will be a good player. I just don't think he needed that much slack on the top line.

Who will win the Tampa Bay Washington series?
Jason Mackey
2:11
I think Tampa will win the whole thing.

Is the team worried at all about Murray and do they have plans to bring in a veteran goaltender? I think he missed have a mentor like MAF around....
Jason Mackey
2:12
No, I think it will be Murray and DeSmith next year. I think they view Murray as a franchise guy and rightfully so. His year had nothing to do with Fleury being gone.

Hello Jason from Quebec city, love your articles! Would you love to travel in Quebec city for Pens matches somedays against Nordiques again? ^_~
The league has caught up with the speed of Pens, which was their advantage of the last two cups, I wonder if they could remediate to get faster, by adding speed in their D-Core? I've found Letang is not getting faster...
And I've watched some games of Colorado vs Preds in the 1st round, oh my! Avs have a young core playing a in your face style speedy hockey, it remembers me the baby pens of 2009!

Popular question today. I think the Penguins are faster than you give them credit for. Their lack of speed wasn't why they lost, in my opinion. They don't even have a lack of speed. Need more secondary scoring.

do you think part of the problem with Brassard is he didn't fit into the lockerroom?
Jason Mackey
2:12
Not at all. The group loved him. He just didn't get it going on the ice.

When healthy Malkin and Kessel play phenomenal hockey together. If they had stayed healthy the two top lines (59-87-72, 81-71-62) were unstoppable
Jason Mackey
2:13
That's the route I would've gone as well, but I don't coach the team.
Rob

I don't remember where I heard it, may have been the NHL on Sirius, but what do you think about the idea of making the long change during the 1st and 3rd period to increase scoring?
Jason Mackey
2:13
I don't like messing with hockey convention like that. I'd rather keep the changes the same.

Enjoyed the chat Jason, Thanks!!!

Thank you!

Is there any chance the Penguins move a player making over 4 million per year this off season?  I feel like a big move may be coming (not 87 or 71 though).
Jason Mackey
2:14
I think they will entertain it, but I don't think it's likely. The only one who would fit that category would be Kessel. Would have to be a really good offer.

2:14
Do you think Kessel is starting to wear out his welcome with the Pens
Jason Mackey
2:14
No, I don't. I just think they want him to get healthy.

Do you think GMJR will take a stab at acquiring Erik Karlsson or are we not even in the ball park to make an offer? In the same thought I know they wouldnt do this because of money but say you could get him for a deal based around Letang do you try to make it work?
Jason Mackey
2:14
We're not in the ballpark -- heck, zip code -- to make that kind of offer. I don't think Ottawa would do it for what the Penguins are peddling.

I don't understand why he kept Simon on the first line and didn't try Sheary there.  Do you think the players were not happy with seeing Simon get such a prominent role at such an important time?
Jason Mackey
2:15
Possibly. I didn't understand it as well. But I don't think it infuriated them or anything like that.
Mark
2:15
What do you think the Penguins will be rated in EA Sports NHL 19?
Jason Mackey
2:15
Should still be one of the best.
Jill

Coach was very tight-lipped on injuries, but was Olli Matta hurt in the playoffs. Heard he wasn't playing in WC but that may just be for a full rest? Also Hagelin was driven to and from. Still having concussion issues. Thanks, Jason. You do a wonderful job!
Jason Mackey
2:16
Thanks, Jill. All the guys not playing in the WC is for full rest. They need it. Hagelin didn't have a concussion. He always rides with Hornqvist.
thanks
2:16
Will these chats continue now that the season is over?
Jason Mackey
2:16
Some. But not until around draft time. I'm going to take a few weeks off.
OK, folks. That does it. Thanks for hanging out. Last one of these for awhile. As always, appreciate the great questions and you guys making this what it is. Gonna take a few weeks. Will be back with more closer to the draft. Thanks!

Does Sullivan ever get asked about his lineup decisions like Simon on the first line, and if so, how does he respond?
Jason Mackey
2:17
Oh, a few more. Basically he says the coaching staff talks before and after every game about line combinations, and they do what they think gives the team the best chance to win.
Mark
2:17
This may sound crazy....but will Buffalo have a chance at being a playoff team anytime soon?
Jason Mackey
2:17
I don't think so, sorry. They're a long way off right now.
