Hi folks. Thanks for stopping by my Thursday Penguins chat. Let's get this thing going.

What trade value do you feel Connor Sheary carries at this time Draft Pick wise (1st thru 7th Round) and Player Trade wise?  If he’s traded where do you think he will be traded to and for what in return?  Thank you. Let’s Go Pens!!!!!
Jason Mackey
1:01
Hi Jason. Is your dad John, by chance? The value wouldn't be much. Maybe a third? I'll admit, I don't have a real good sense of that. I think if Sheary is traded, it would be part of a package, but I don't think his stock is terribly high right now.

There’s reports of the pens moving up in the draft for a “high end prospect”. Have you heard any of these rumors or have any idea what/who is being discussed?
Jason Mackey
1:03
I have not seen/heard this reports. If you link them, I would be happy to address with what I know. ... As a general rule, the Penguins are generally in this position (no first-round pick) and they have interest in moving up. The question becomes at what cost. They have some moves they're going to make this summer. It wouldn't be weird if a first-round pick was a part of something.

Is Ovechkin a first ballot HOFer?
Jason Mackey
1:05
I think so, yes. Probably an unpopular opinion around here, but I don't see how he's not.

Which FA has the best chance of landing in PGH?
Jason Mackey
1:06
A right-handed, third-pairing defense. Greg Pateryn would make a lot of sense. Could see John Moore or Calvin de Haan. My guess is you meant sexier free agents, someone like Tavares, Carlson or JVR, but I don't see that happening. It'll be a depth add.

Gotta ask, did you do as you promised and listen to Train yet?   Check out the live cuts, Jason!
Jason Mackey

I have not had a chance, sorry.

Do you think the Los Angeles Kings would trade Drew Doughty for Phil Kessel straight up in a ‘hockey trade’ that would give them the offensive scoring that they want and we would get the Defense that we want?  If they wanted more than we would give them Conor Sheary as well which would allow us to pay Drew as he deserves going forward.  Drew is just two years younger than Kessel so the add of Sheary could get the deal done.  Thoughts???  Let’s Go Pens!!!!!

If the Kings trade Drew Doughty for Phil Kessel straight up, or even with Conor Sheary thrown in, every single person responsible in L.A. should be fired. Immediately. And probably taken somewhere to get help.

Hello, Jason      Fan of Penguins here from outside Paris region. Please exvuse any grammer errors. I speak French mainly. I wondering if the mighty Penguins could possibly look to French national players as source of talent new? Thank you, for your chats I read in Paris city. And I like your music tastes. But do not understand Train hate. In Paris region we call Train the band of USA. Meaning best band in USA. My wife surprized you dislike. Thank you.
Jason Mackey
1:08
No dislike at all for Train. Just don't listen to 'em much. And thanks for reading from all the way over there. Means a lot. To your question: I don't think the Penguins care if a dude is from Chicago or Congo. If he can play, great. They want him. They scout all leagues. If there's talent there, I'm confident they'll find it.

Should The Capitals go to the White House or not?
Jason Mackey
1:12
I think so. Regardless of your political opinion -- I won't discuss politics in these things, as many of you know -- I understand going based on respect for the Oval Office. I also understand not going because of Trump and the many things those who decline feel it represents. Not judging. My personal opinion: I'd go. ... And in doing so, I'd try and make a few points to anyone who will listen. And I'd love to see a pro sports team use the opportunity to positively affect change and try and help fix a lot of our current problems and why people feel so disconnected with the White House.

"IF” Kessel was to be traded how likely do you see Arizona and Max Domi being in the deal??
Jason Mackey
1:13
Not very. I don't think the Penguins would be against getting Domi. In fact, I think they would love it. But I don't think Kessel wants to go to Arizona. He has a NMC clause. Believe 10 teams. As much as he loves Tocchet, I think he wants to play for a decent team, in a decent market. Ain't gonna get that there.

Jason, what is/are your favorite NHL city(s) to visit and why?
Jason Mackey
1:16
Top five would be, in no particular order: Vancouver, Montreal, San Jose, D.C. and Nashville. Honorable mention: NYC, Columbus, Buffalo, Raleigh and Toronto. Never gonna make it: Newark, Brooklyn and Philly. ... Vancouver is crazy nice. The best views and seafood anywhere. ... San Jose for its proximity to Haight-Asbury and Grateful Dead Mecca. ... Do I have to explain Montreal? ... Used to live in D.C. Ton to do. Love visiting the area. Great food. ... Nashville, the combination fo hot chicken, BBQ and country music is heavenly.

Can the Pens (with this roster) truly hope to return to the Cup Finals next season?
Jason Mackey
1:17
I think they need to make some changes -- depth on defense, better fourth line, Phil and Brassard can't stink -- but I don't see them being far off. They're top-five-in-the-NHL good right now, in my opinion.

When does the Penguins pre-season schedule get released

Hey, I was really touched by the guy last week who was bullied by DeadHeads in high school just because he was a KISS fan. I had a similar experience and am hoping he made an impact on you. I'm hoping you check out KISS and, even if you don't love them, that you can respect them and their legacy of music. Enjoy your summer, JM!
Jason Mackey

I do respect them and their legacy of music. Actually listened to some KISS this week.

I'm sure this will be a popular question but here goes. Do the Pens target a Forward or a Dman and do you feel it will be a big splash or minor tweak?
Jason Mackey
1:18
Dman and minor tweak, to answer your question. Now, they might get a forward, too -- I think if he could swing it, GMJR would get Max Domi in a heartbeat -- but the most likely scenario is a depth add, someone who can play the right side and give them a steady presence. Would help if that dude had a healthy amount of mileage on the tires, too.

Do you think the Pens should trade Brassard?  He seemed like a bad fit for the Pens.
Jason Mackey
1:19
I'm willing to give it time. If he was truly that hurt -- and it sounds like he was -- I think it's unfair to judge a fit based on that. I see Brassard a lot like James Neal: struggles initially but then breaks out the next regular season. Brassard needs health and training camp.

Hi Jason, after the loss to the caps I read a lot on “the Penguins weren’t hard to play against”. What needs to be done/who should they sign so that they are tougher to play against?
Jason Mackey
1:21
I don't think it's predominantly a personnel issue, Christian. They need to be better defensively. That starts in their own zone. It continues with how they manage the puck and what they allow the other way.  Also Letang needs to be more consistently, the same for Murray, who needs to play a stretch of games in a row. I don't hear "tough to play against" and think physical with the Penguins. They need to play their way, which they didn't do nearly enough last season.
Zig8771
1:21
Joe Thornton to me is intriguing. Maybe 1 year 2-3mil. 4th line C, good locker room presence. Thoughts?
Jason Mackey
1:22
Eh, I don't know. They would have to trade Brassard or Sheahan, which I don't think they're going to do. And if they got Thornton, it would probably have to be Brassard who goes given the need for Sheahan defensively, killing penalties, etc. ... If you give me Brassard or Thornton for roughly the same amount of money -- assuming that's what Thornton ends up making -- I still want Brassard, believing we haven't seen his best yet.
Phil
1:22
Hi Jason, any talk from the Penguins about getting tougher?  I think they did the right thing last year with Reaves but then let him go.  I think that was a mistake.  What do you say?
Jason Mackey
1:23
I don't think that's a big issue for them. I think they're fine with Jamie Oleksiak and Zach Aston-Reese being their two biggest sources of toughness. You may disagree. That's understandable. But I don't think that same push exists.

Why isn't there a kneeling controversy in the NHL?
Jason Mackey
1:25
Because none of them kneel. There are also a lot of non-Americans. Thirdly, the NHL -- whether you agree or not -- is very apolitical. The culture of the sport is to fall in line, do your job, don't complain, etc. I'm not saying that's what those who kneel do -- it's not my place to tell anyone what to do -- but politics are rarely discussed around hockey. People just keep it private.

Has Ovechkin behaved disgracefully with the Cup in public since the Caps win?
