I like it a lot. Where does Derek Grant fit, though?

Who has the best celebrations on the team? I love when the players get lit!
Jason Mackey
1:51
Haha. I don't know if any Penguins players get all that lit.

Does Kessel take a step back this year?  Who has a big jump from last year?
Jason Mackey
1:51
I think Guentzel is going to have a much-improved regular season. I'm probably cheating here, since there's nowhere to go but up, but I also think Kris Letang is going to be a lot better.

Who’s the better Pittsburgh JJ: JuJu or Jack Johnson
Jason Mackey
1:51
Incomplete grade. Jack hasn't played a game yet.

Hey Jason. What's your favorite story you've written?
Jason Mackey

Penguins-wise, I like the piece I did on Sid when I was at the Trib (https://triblive.com/sports/penguins/8936666-74/crosby-hockey-sidney) with last year's Murray takeout a close second (http://www.post-gazette.com/sports/penguins/2017/08/10/matt-murray-mar...)

I’m worried this team will get pushed around too much by Tom wilson and people like that. Do you think Jim will make a trade or do we have anything in house to keep him from doing that? I thought Reaves was really good as a player and an enforcer because Tom would think twice about touching anyone if Reaves is there
Jason Mackey
1:57
They tried that with Reaves. They had the best fighter in the league. And he just didn't fit; the coach didn't really want to use him. I think the best way for the Penguins to deal with Wilson is to ignore him, honestly. They shouldn't try to out-physical anyone, although Oleksiak and Aston-Reese can handle themselves. Remember last year, Wilson wouldn't even fight Oleksiak.

Would Mike Sullivan lose the locker room to the extent Mike Tomlin has?
Jason Mackey
1:57
It's different people and a different culture, but I have a tough time seeing Sullivan tolerate as much crap as Tomlin does without punishing someone.

Mr. Mackey, why does it seem that, after a controversial trade or signing, the media goes extra hard at writing puff pieces and tweeting out insignificant observations designed to make us like said new controversial acquisition?
Jason Mackey
1:58
What's getting you to say that? The Jack Johnson trade? I don't necessarily agree with your assertion.
Steven
1:58
A year removed from the Reaves trade, what are your thoughts? Clearly, Sullivan had little love for him as a player (perfectly understandable, I don't think he can skate well enough in the East), was his constant appearance in the lineup a matter of a decision from higher up?
Jason Mackey
1:59
Yeah, I don't think management and the coach agreed on that one, and I think it resulted in Reaves' low minutes. Then when he stunk, it compounded it. ... I just think you needed to play him 8-10 minutes a night and live with the results. The Penguins weren't wiling to do that. And it's tougher when you're not getting a ton of goals to run out an offensively challenged player at that 4RW spot.

I am a concerned citizen who is worried Matt Murray doesn’t have a glove hand? Is there any way we can start a go fund me to help him find it
Jason Mackey

That's a good one, but I don't understand the question mark. Are you unsure that's who you really are?

Hey Jason whatever happened to Jarred Tinordi ?
Jason Mackey
2:01
Preds signed him to a one-year contract over the summer.

Do you have any WC teams you follow closely or enjoy watching?
Jason Mackey
2:01
Westminster College teams? I like all of them. ... Oh, the Western Conference? I follow all of it, to be honest. I'm a dork. But I always want to see Vegas do well because of Fleury.

It’s wild to me that ZAR and Simon could go from playoff starters to being back in the minors. Does the team go with 14 forwards?
Jason Mackey
2:02
Doubtful Simon is back in the minors; he's on a one-way deal. But he may be an opening-night scratch, that's for sure. And yes, I think they keep 14 forwards. Obviously would dress 10.

Writing any good pieces soon?
Jason Mackey

I'm excited about our preview section cover story. It's been a fun one to report. Bigger picture, although I can't say much more than that.

Do you think the coaches have a pretty good idea of the four lines for the opening game by now?  Is it too early for you to hazard a guess as to the line-up combinations?
Jason Mackey
2:03
I honestly think they don't. And they didn't learn much more with the first two preseason games because so few guys played. That's what the next four are for. And let's be honest here, you know Sullivan is going to change things a million times anyway.

You guys are actually going to love the Jack Johnson signing after hating it all summer.

OK, folks. That does it. Thanks so much for participating. Let's do this again next week.
