No. I think I have a better chance of making the NHL Penguins than Pat McGrath. They're fine with what they have. Oleksiak and ZAR can handle that stuff if necessary.

Is Sullivan begrudgingly playing Sprong because his boss Rutherford sent down the edict to him?  Sullivan showed no enthusiasm for playing Sprong last season.  Rutherford sees great potential in Sprong where Sullivan is nonchalant about DS.

I do think there's a philosophical divide there. Or I should say I think the GM likes Sprong more than the coach. If Sprong was scoring, the coach would have to deal with it. But he's not. If Sprong is going to play, he has to produce points. He doesn't do enough well not to.

Have the Penguins fielded any calls in the entire offseason for Sprong that you know of? Not expecting them to trade, but are other teams asking?

Well, Sprong is hurt at the moment, so it's kind of a moot point. But I like Simon if he's playing on his current line. I think ultimately the Penguins want both to take the next step. Sprong hasn't earned much ice time thus far in camp.

Not to beat a dead horse, but Kris has at least committed 2 big turnover blunders in the defensive zone this preseason. In your opinion has his overall play improve, decline or stay the same as last season?

I think it's too early to tell, honestly. I'm not reading too much into preseason, but I do think Letang has seemed more relaxed than he has previously. He's said he's in a much different place mentally, and I believe him.

Who will this team miss the most this year on the ice and why is it Ian Cole?

Even if they would miss him, there was no way they were going to be able to re-sign him. Bring up the trade last year all you want. But they and Cole knew he was gone in free agency.

Why do people lament on Dominik Simon so much as if he isn’t an NHL player? I never remember hearing negative comments about Bryan Rust despite comparable rookie campaigns. Simon isn’t a top line staple, but he’s a sure NHL player at this point yet all you see in Penguins mentions is how awful he is and how he isn’t an NHL player.

He does seem to be a polarizing topic. I think the issue was how much time he got with Sid during the playoffs last year, if I had to guess.

Jason, you keep mentioning ZAR as a physical player.  In the NHL games that he played last year, I can't recall a physical game of his.  What will change?

Well, he needs to be more physical to earn a spot. I think that's one of the reasons he will probably start in WBS. When he can consistently play a rugged game, he'll be back.

I don't think there's any way they can trade Hagelin. If you play Phil and Geno together, he's an essential part of that line.

Any update on which radio show you'll be a guest on once the season starts next week? I expect to hear you on the Cook and Joe show or the curiously named PM Team with Filiponi and Mueller.  I'll be starting a petition to The Fan if you're not a guest on one of the shows starting next week.

Already? C'mon Jim. Jack Johnson has been fine this preseason. Not saying it's going to be great for all five years, but I'm not sure I understand the freakout at this point.
