Taylor makes some sense, but I still don't see those as the likely next moves here.

With the Pirates calling up Henry Davis after only 439 MiL ABs (less that Harper!) last year, do we possibly see that "in show" development  again with Termarr this year (sitting just over 400)?
Jason Mackey
1:17
No. I think Davis was more out of necessity. I mean, maybe we get there with Termarr. But it would be really surprising to me. Davis was also a college kid, Termarr high school.

Yankees: Bednar, Pirates: Gilbert, Mariners: Suwinski, Cabrera, Peraza, and Gonzales. Does Ben Cherington pull the trigger?
Jason Mackey
1:17
No.
Ralph Roberts
1:17
Jason, who do you have winning the Royal Rumble tomorrow?
Jason Mackey
1:19
Ric Flair.

It seems like the trade market has cooled for SP. Do you have a feel for how the Pirates might fill out their rotation?
Jason Mackey
1:20
I still think via trade. I don't agree with or understand the obsession over trying to figure out hot/cold with the trade market.

Are you hearing anything about a potential Santana reunion
Jason Mackey
1:20
Am not.

What's the earliest we might be expected to see Bubba at the big league level?
Jason Mackey
1:21
Maaaaybe this year. Though I would be a little surprised. Probably start at Double-A, get to Triple-A. He could get in position for a September cameo.
Brian
1:21
How much confidence is there in the organization that Davis can be a regular big league catcher?
Jason Mackey
1:22
I think there's enough to give him a shot. Is it forced by Endy's injury? A little bit. But I would imagine they're not thrilled with how he looked in right and Pirates are figuring maybe he grows into something back there.
Justin

Do the pirates squeeze in a last minute CF/RF upgrade?  I'm not asking for them to hand Soler $50 million, but I gotta think someone like an Austin Meadows would be inexpensive and worthwhile (assuming his anxiety issues are managed enough for him to be seeking employment).
Jason Mackey
1:23
I don't know about Meadows specifically, but I think it's at least possible. Likely? Probably not.

Which of the three young guys who disappointed last year (Contreras, Priester and Ortiz) will break through this season? And have you hear anything positive about where Ro is? Personally, I think there's still a ton to like about Priester and it was encouraging his velo was up to close the season.
Jason Mackey
1:24
Yeah, I agree with you on Priester. I think he meshed well with Delay. Seemed to put in the work in the minors, which is never a concern with Quinn. No update on Roansy, but man, he might be my choice here. The kid is so talented. Got a great head on his shoulders, too. I'm supposed to believe that he suddenly stinks for good? Have a tough time squaring that. I think he's gonna be OK.
Brian
1:24
Do you get the sense that the FO would still like to add another position player this off-season?
Jason Mackey
1:24
I don't think it's a priority. Pitching is a bigger deal.
George Costanza
1:24
Hello Jason. Most media outlets say the Pirates lack power. Are there any moves left to be made to remedy this supposed issue?
Jason Mackey
1:25
The biggest thing they can do, honestly, is internally. There's no magic bullet out there, no. But if Cruz is healthy, they have Hayes and Reynolds, Tellez and Jack are good, Henry develops, that's not a terrible lineup.
Paul
1:25
Hey Jason, in your expert opinion, why are complete games by a starting pitcher becoming extinct?
Jason Mackey
1:26
Because teams are simultaneously worrying about arm injuries, the third time through and having relievers who throw 100 mph come in to match up, relying on numbers and analytics to do it.
Brian
1:26
How frustrated is Cherington by losing out on free agents at the 11th hour?
Jason Mackey
1:26
Ben doesn't show emotion on anything, but I would imagine they'd like to get the rotation strengthened, yeah.

it seemed like in 13-15, Pitt was a more desired location for FA’s not so much today. How big a factor is that in their lack of activity?
Jason Mackey
1:27
Umm ... maybe. I think they presented pretty good opportunity to Russ. After '13 happened, I think those concerns were lifted.

Jason, chillax. Just keeping it light on an unusually balmy day in the ‘burgh.
Jason Mackey

Don't remember what you said, but I haven't been made about a thing.

In that time where everyone got mad at you for saying that prices on pitching were objectively nuts, something was a little bit unclear to me.   Has the team indicated to you that that's the opinion that they hold - that pitching prices are "nuts"?  Or was it just Jason Mackey sharing Jason Mackey's thoughts?  I don't necessarily *disagree* or *agree* with the opinion - that's not important - but what is important is if that's an opinion held by the team.
Jason Mackey
1:29
I think they are surprisingly high, yes. I also found myself in a period where I was using the word "nuts" a lot. Not sure why. I think it's also different in that the team might not think prices are nuts, but they can choose to spend dollars elsewhere. But my comment -- to answer your question -- was not reporting on team sentiment as much as it was giving my own impression of the market.

Jason, do you see a situation where the pirates would sign a pitcher like Lorenzen (or someone of that caliber) AND also make a significant trade to acquire a bonafide SP, or at this point do you see it more as it being either one or the other and that 5th spot no matter what will be some combo or Ro, Priester, etc.? Thanks!!!
Jason Mackey
1:30
I think if they traded for a SP, they might get like Syndergaard or German. Don't think it would be a Lorenzen type. Also not saying that I think they would go trade AND a FA agent. But I do still feel confident they have a trade in them for SP.

Hey Jason, do you know if they checked with Cutch before signing me?
Jason Mackey
1:30
I doubt it. That was water under the bridge long ago.

Still looking to add in the outfield, or do you think they’re set going into spring training?
Jason Mackey
1:30
I think they're largely set. Any add wouldn't be the kind about which you're asking.

Is Connor Joe, Nick Gonzales, CSN and Thomas Harrington enough to get a young #2-#3 starter from Seattle?
