I see the Pirates clinching the NL Central by end of August. Am I too bullish on this revamped roster?
Jason Mackey

What makes you think it'll take them that long? Hater.

Jason, love your work on the Buccos'; now that Bichette signed with the Mets instead of Philly potentially taking Bohm out of the race, why would they not go all in For Suarez! Will definitely make an inpact and what are the Bucs afraid of paying a bit more to get their guy?  Your thoughts.  TY

I don't think they're going to go all-in the way you described, John. Honestly, I think Bichette could open up options like Baty and Vientos more than direct them to Suarez.

Hope all is well Jason. I just saw something about J Jones being traded to Houston for their 3B. 8 know we have to give to get another legit bat but I'd really hate to lose JJ in order to do it. If he comes back healthy, I think there's a whole lot left in his tank

I'd be stunned if they traded Jared Jones. So much potential. Also coming off injury, one of Skenes' best friends? Are you sure you aren't confusing him with Thomas Harrington?

Is Gregory Polanco out of baseball? ‘Monty Python and the Holy Grail’ - best comedy ever?
Jason Mackey

I think he's still over in Japan. And, no. It's funny but come on? Dumb & Dumber is the best comedy ever.

Jason, as a self proclaimed baseball nerd, any recommendations on Pirates/baseball focused books or documentaries?
Jason Mackey

A ton. How much time you got? On my desk right now is "The Baseball 100," by Joe Posnanski. Really like "K: A History of Baseball in 10 Pitches" by Tyler Kepner. My 7-year-old son is carrying around "Homegrown: How the Red Sox Built a Champion from the Ground Up" because he's a huge nerd. Ha. "The Grind," by Barry Svrluga is awesome. You might laugh, but I recommend Jason Kendall's book a lot. "Throwback: A Big-League Catcher Tells How the Game Is Really Played."

Jason- if you had to bet your next paycheck that the Pirates make the playoffs this year, are you betting yes or no?
Jason Mackey

What are my odds?

Thanks for these weekly chats: I always enjoy your insights!

Thanks, Ruckdog. Pleasure is all mine.

It was on Bucs Dugout today so I take it with a grain of salt
Jason Mackey

I'm not taking shots. I'm just saying, I really don't think that's very likely.

Do you see the 3B of the future in the top 30 prospect list?
Jason Mackey
1:14
I do not. I think it's more likely they add that guy via trade.

Does Cutch realize he would be taking the roster spot of a younger player who might be lost to waivers.
Jason Mackey

I'm not sure given what Andrew has accomplished in the game, that it should be a concern. He deserves to have a retirement year. I'm fine with that. But he has to say that or agree to that. Doesn't have anything to do with younger players. They still have the flexibility.

I feel better now because I thought it was a really bad move if that were the case!
Jason Mackey

Someone asked about Harrington, Termarr & Bart. That would make more sense. Although if I'm GMBC, I'm trying to direct them to a pitcher in the lower levels of the minors, even if I have to give up more potential to do it.

‘The Baseball Codes: the Unwritten Rules of Americas Pastime’ is my favorite baseball book. Have you read it?
Jason Mackey
1:17
I have not, but it sounds excellent. I love that stuff. Spring training is a great time to get some reading done. Thank you for the rec.

OK, folks. That does it for this week. Thanks so much for participating. Great chat. Let's do this again next Thursday. Then the week after that FROM FLORIDA! Stay warm.
