I keep hearing these Marlins rumors..And the pundits are saying they need Shortstop help..correct me if I’m wrong but Peggy played short but not terribly well..Gonzalez played short but not terrific Triolo is not a Shortstop..Bae isn’t ..I can’t see a Marlin matchup

I don't think the shortstop component is the issue. I think the Marlins are looking for prospects. Bigger sticking point is likely volume of prospect talent being given up. Not necessarily the position played.

Well, we'd have to see games played in 2024, first. And then they would have to lose a bunch of those games. It might be a different outcome if they win. (Unlikely, I know. But it's my way of saying to give it time.)

Why haven't the Pirates made the big move (FA, trade) everyone is hoping for? Did they just miss out? Is there some hesitance on Cherington's part? This offseason has been fine in a vacuum, but none of these acquisitions to date haven't been any different than the first four years of this regime.

Trade-wise, I think there's some hesitance on Cherington's part. And they did miss out on some FAs, even though I know nobody wants to hear that.

How much of a legitimate shot will Jared Triolo get this spring as a potential starter at first or second base?  He seems like an all around solid ball player and a winner. Will they give him a shot or are they determined to push him into a super utility player role?

Well, I think they want him in a super utility role. But I also believe he'll see some time at those spots. No issue personally with Triolo doing this. He's legit good in several spots. Why not take advantage?

You think Bauer deserves a second chance at professional baseball on the highest stage? Do you care to elaborate further about why given the context: minimally, a nurse who told investigators that a woman was beaten worse than anyone she’s seen in a thirty year career alongside Bauer admitting on tape to hitting and choking an unconscious woman? These are just what has been widely reported.

I think he will get a second chance. Also, Dave. You seem to be in attack mode on this. My moral opinion of what Bauer did or didn't do isn't especially relevant here. Ditto for bouncing back from it. But you know someone is going to give him a chance. It has happened a ton throughout professional sports. Not saying it's right or wrong. Just that it's reality.

Who is the most important player for the Pirates this season? Cruz is the easy answer but it almost seems like how Henry Davis fares will have a bigger impact on whether things go in a good or bad direction.

Yeah, if you're going to say most important, I can see why Henry would be a solid answer. I still might say Cruz, though. Their offense is so much different is he becomes what he can be. Dude could easily go 30-30.

I would've have preferred Santana over Tellez, but why is it so difficult for this organization to draft/develop a 1B? It's crazy to me ... the last really good homegrown Pirates 1B came up 30 years ago (Kevin Young).

I would imagine that has been felt by a few fans. Not sure how I feel. I wanna see the platoon play out. I think it could make sense. ... It is curious on the first baseman. Not sure I have a great answer for you.
