Thanks so much. And no, it does not. Gotta be in the BBWAA for 10 years. Would wanna give that much more careful consideration before answering, but I am pro-Bonds, if that's what you're asking.

Jason, Do you think any of the top prospects pitchers will make the mlb roster out of camp? like jones or burrows?
Jason Mackey
2:17
Burrows isn't healthy, but essentially no. I think Jones gets here around June.

2:17
Would the Pirates carry three catchers to start the season or would, say, Delay go down to Indy if Grandal and Davis are the top two?
Jason Mackey
2:17
Cherington said yesterday that's unlikely.
Sam
2:17
Congrats on the new position! At this point do you think that if we bring in an outside starter it’s narrowed down to German, Syndergaard or a Marlins starter?
Jason Mackey
2:17
Thanks so much, Sam! Yeah, I think that's a pretty decent bet. Either them or Blake Snell. (J/k)

Jason, thank you for always staying positive about our city's favorite baseball team!  Do you think Priester will have a shot at making the roster this year or does he need more time in minor league ball?
Jason Mackey
2:18
He absolutely has a chance. Talked to Q yesterday, and he discussed feeling way more athletic. Basically a key to returning his velocity. If he does that and can not let bad things snowball, he absolutely could be in the rotation.

Hey Jason, I am sure you will receive this question a lot today, but do you think the trade with Miami is still possible before Monday's first full squad practice? Do you also think there will be any other FA moves for the Pirates before then?
Jason Mackey
2:19
Yes, I do think it's still possible. Would doubt there are other FA moves other than a starting pitcher. Like, I would be surprised if they signed a FA outfielder or something like that.
Tyler
2:19
do you think there is a shot for skeens to make the opening day roster?
Jason Mackey
2:19
I don't. I think they want him to start in the minors a couple times first and show he's good with the routine and whatnot. But I don't think it'll be long.
Justin

there was so much talk in the first half of the winter about how things are going to be different, "different part of the store", it's time to win, etc.   All we have really seen has been moves that are basically analogous to - or worse than - moves from the previous offseason.   Rowdy --> Santana.   Perez --> Hill.  Gonzales --> Velasquez.  Grandal --> Hedges.  Fine, Chapman is a fun little upgrade over last offseason.  I'm mostly venting and dont have a *real* question here.  But like.   what are we even doing here man?   Do you think that they realize how lied to many fans feel?  Do you think they care how misled we feel?
Jason Mackey
2:20
Haha. What is it that you want me to say here, Justin? You're upset. I get it. I think it depends on results. Isn't Chapman a different part of the store? Payroll has gone up, no? Not enough, I understand. But it's not nothing. All depends on them winning. If they do that, you're feelings will be different, I bet.

Jason, are you so opposed to Rasta Man music that you won't even give Winding Roads a quick listen? Related to that, I hear the Marley movie whitewashes the man way too much to be interesting, sort of like the Cook retirement articles.  I kid, of course.....
Jason Mackey
2:21
Sorry, can't say I know much of what you're speaking there, Bobby.

Are there any relievers at spring training that have stood out to you so far?
Jason Mackey
2:21
It's cheating, but Chapman and Holderman were really fun to watch. Ha. Other than that, we'll know more when they start facing hitters.

Who’s surprised you the most so far out of what you’ve seen in camp? Even if things aren’t too intense yet
Jason Mackey
2:21
Henry Davis.

Since your baseball beat days are almost done: Favorite cities/parks to visit? Least favorite? Is there a favorite story you've done during your time covering the Pirates?
Jason Mackey
2:23
Noooo ... almost done! Ha. ... Love San Francisco (always will because of the Dead), D.C. (used to live there) and SD ... I take crap for it, but I'm a huge St. Louis fan. Chicago is obvious. Who doesn't love Wrigley? ... Atlanta became another good one. Also really, really enjoyed my visits to Dodger Stadium. Can't wait to get back there in the NLCS.

Hi Jason, do you think Priester will start the season in the MLB rotation, or down in Indy? Also, how far has his stock fallen inside the org?
Jason Mackey
2:24
Hasn't fallen at all. And I think it's way too early to know anything. He's absolutely competing for a rotation spot.
Tim
2:24
You are the best Pirates beat writer I can remember.  I am happy for you in getting the columnist position but will be sorry to see you off of the Pirates beat.
Jason Mackey
2:25
Thanks so much, Tim. I've had plenty of talented predecessors on this beat. Colleagues, too. The only thing I hope people know/understand/remember about me is that I cared and busted my butt to do a good job. I'm not perfect. Don't try to be. But I do try to honor my parents/wife/kids by showing that I know how to work.

Hello Jason. Do we think Sunday night is the hard deadline for another move being made? Or could this linger into camp potentially?
Jason Mackey
2:25
Nah, I don't think there's a hard deadline or anything like that.

Congratulations on the new gig. Hopefully this means less travel and more time with the family for you. Been plenty of movement on the beat writer front adding to the weirdness of this off-season. Is your replacement an unknown or a familiar face?
Jason Mackey
2:25
Thanks so much! It's a familiar face. But I'm gonna let them announce.
Paul
2:25
Jason, if I'm clearly one of their best pitchers, and with a wild card spot likely coming down to a game or two, how can Ben and Bob justify having me toil away in some minor league wasteland like Altoona, Pennsylvania?  Would not the wild card berth more than make up for the slight profit reduction in Bob's financial statement (the one he shows the government). Thanks.
Jason Mackey
2:26
I think they want to see you do it. And I understand why, long term, it behooves the Pirates to prevent you from earning a full year of service time in 2024.

What are your impressions so far of Ortiz and Contrares?   Any hope of a rebound there?   Wolf is an intriguing arm as well, is he down there?   Could we expect him in Pittsburgh some point this season?
Jason Mackey
2:26
Yes, Wolf is down here. Watched him throw today. There's absolutely funk in his delivery. I like it. Hides the ball well. Roansy is absolutely a bounce-back candidate for me.
Justin

Is it accurate to say that you have  NOT done an official report stating that that Cabrera is the main target from the Marlins?   I see where you say that it's a fact that SP talks are happening with the Marlins, but have you reported that it's a fact that Cabrera is the main talking point?
Jason Mackey
2:27
I have not reported that Cabrera is the main talking point. There was the draft that accidentally got published, but that was because of what was out publicly. I realize it's confusing. I'm sorry.

How has Cutch looked?
Jason Mackey
2:27
He's not here yet.

Jason, isn’t it concerning that the bucs had to sign two placeholders  Grandal and Fleming because some top draft choices and prospects Davis, Contreras,Ortiz, Preister might not even be serviceable Major leaguers. What does that say about scouting and development?
