Henry has to be up there for me. Maybe Roansy, too.
Will

Pirates are going to run ASG !  I like your optimism!
Jason Mackey
1:15
Ha. They aren't getting five. I was just being funny. It's a good question, though.

Cruz is healthy, but he hasn't played regularly for almost a year. Who is the likely back-up SS while Cruz gets back into playing everyday?
Jason Mackey
1:15
Could be Peguero, if he earns it. I think Triolo can/will play over there. Hope it's not Alika. If Bae makes the team, he would not be out of place at SS.

Nick Gonzales closer to draft bust or solid MLB contributor?
Jason Mackey
1:16
Might be right in the middle. We just don't know at this point.
Bucco71
1:18
Should Clevinger be a consideration?
Jason Mackey
1:20
It depends on what they learn about his situation. Without any off-field issues, of course. But there was a hefty investigations and allegations of domestic violence and child abuse ... though he was not suspended. What was contained there? I don't know. It would require a thorough vetting process. And I don't have enough information at this point to say one way or another.

Do you have any plans to start posting on threads? Some of us no longer on the Xwitter
Jason Mackey
1:20
Absolutely not. I'm trying to get further off X. I would rather do more of these or move traffic over to our site via chat rooms or some sort of fan forum.

Any on the bubble players who are out of options?
Jason Mackey
1:21
Roansy is one. Probably the biggest one.

Hi Jason …. The Keller signing is a tremendous step in the right direction but if the Pirates truly want to become competitive again do you think they need at least one and preferably 2 dynamite arms to add to the rotation to add to Keller.
Jason Mackey
1:21
They need more arms, sure. I don't care where they get them.
That being said, good orgs find and develop pitching. Pirates have a pretty good stable that should be ready midway through 2024. They need those guys to pan out and to keep the arms coming, too.

Lorenzen worries me due to the number of innings he threw last season. Thoughts?
Jason Mackey
1:22
Nah. I think it probably taught him some stuff. I would be perfectly fine if they signed Lorenzen.
Bucco71
1:22
Based on sheer MLB current talent on hand, would you rank the Bucs last in the division?
Jason Mackey
1:23
That's a weird one. Because sheer MLB talent on hand, yes, I would rank them last. But how do we account for Cruz, Roansy, Skenes, Henry and others? Like, those guys weren't worth much last year, but I think they're gonna help.

Pirates have 8 SP arms on 40 man entering Spring if you exclude ILs Burrows, Brubaker and Oviedo. In addition to 5/6 man rotation concerns, do Pirates have SP depth concerns as well?
Jason Mackey
1:23
Will, where you been my man?

jason…I read your story on the next Pirate you feel could be in line for a contract and I agree with Bednar being the next one. What do you think would be a fair dollar and length of deal for him ?
Jason Mackey
1:29
Not sure. Josh Hader got 5 years, $95 million. The Pirates aren't doing that. Would they do five and $60 million? Would be a huge discount. Bednar has two more years of arb after this one and two FA years. Making $4.5 million. Might go to, what, $6.5 M, then $7.5 M? Man, I don't know. These things are hard to say for sure. I wanna say like $10 M or $12 M per, but then I look at Hader's number and it's not even close.

How's Cutch's elbow? Even before achilles injury he seemed to level off in 23 when it became a nagging injury
Jason Mackey
1:29
Cutch has not thrown much and has been working on his elbow. Has honestly barely done any outfield. Might not be needed.

Any Olivia Dunne sightings in Bradenton??
Jason Mackey
1:30
Have not seen Livvy, no.
Tony
1:30
Jason, congratulations on the new gig - I’m going to miss your coverage of the Bucs
Jason Mackey
1:30
Thanks so much, Tony. Don't worry. You're in great hands with Noah and Andrew.
Will
1:30
Let me rephrase - we know they need 2/3 slot in rotation.  Do they have enough ARMS of any caliber period?
Jason Mackey
1:30
Hate to pull a cop out, but I don't think you ever have enough pitching.
Tony
1:30
Cherington said that they were going to ‘attack’ the offseason.  Do you think he regrets not doing that?
Jason Mackey
1:31
I think they've attacked it to a degree. Doesn't mean they did enough. Doubt he would admit it, but I'm willing to bet Cherington is frustrated he hasn't been able to get something done to acquire another SP.
Bucco71
1:31
If Davis, Roansey, and Ortiz fail to deliver, the plane will have crashed into the mountain?
Jason Mackey
1:31
It won't be good.
Will
1:31
... or will they send 3 little leaguers stacked under a trench coat to the bump every 5th start? :-)
Jason Mackey
1:32
There's nothing stopping those guys from improving, but they do have to do it.
PhillyJake
1:32
Burrows ETA to play games? I imagine he'll start in Indy when ready?
Jason Mackey
1:32
Yeah, prob. Talked to Mike this morning. I would say late June in games. Not sure what that would mean for Pittsburgh. Maybe late July/early August?
