What are your thoughts on the Skenes excuses?  Do you think theres a reasonable way to gradually shift him from 7 day schedule to a 5 day schedule in the majors, or is this something that MUST occur in the minors?

I don't love it, but man. Guys just don't go from college right to MLB. Wish they did. I think Paul has been tremendous. But he's super important, obviously. They wanna do this right. If I have to relinquish a couple weeks of Skenes to preserve a year of control, whatever. I'll be more offended if they turn aside Jared Jones (who actually has pro experience) or they try and Super-2 Skenes if he's tearing up Triple-A.

Do you envision Cutch playing in the field much this year?  If he doesn't, that pretty much locks the DH position to him, which I believe to be counterproductive to their success.  Thoughts?

Nah, I don't. There's no need. They have other options. I would rather preserve Cutch's health and have him around for as long as possible.

Do you think. Cruz  is best for leadoff given his OBP not really suited to lead off.

Yep. I love it. Look at Betts, Acuna, etc. It's not 1984. Leadoff hitters are different. Cruz loves that spot. Totally good with having him there.

for the Bauer crowd -- even beyond the miserable optics, he hasn't been a good enough pitcher post-Spidertak to justify the level of 'pain-in-the-assedness' he'd almost certainly bring to any mlb clubhouse.

Certainly a way of looking at this. I hear a lot of varying opinions, believe me. There have been times in this chat I've been called names for even suggesting they have a conversation about it. Others are ticked they didn't do it months ago.

Thanks for the concise answer to my Skenes call up question. Sounds like potential options are, about a month into the season and mid-June. Any other contractual hurdles that would need to be cleared after that or just "when we think he's ready"?

No more contractual hurdles. Again, I hope he does the minor league thing, does it well, and they reward that. But I guess I get wanting to see the minor league thing given his importance. I guess.

Good point in the Skenes answer re: Jones.   The same "every 5 days" excuse just simply doesnt apply to him, so it'll be interesting to hear what their excuses would be for him.  With Jones out there tossing 100s for 150 innings that feels like a prime shot at the whole "PPI" draft pick thing if you ask me.  No real question as a follow up, just thought your point about being more upset about Jones than Skenes was good.
