Good question(s). I think 30 might be a workable number, at least to start. Maybe they agree to reassess after so many weeks. I could also see that number being larger than 30, but I don't see how it could be smaller. To your other point, I think that's really interesting. It would be tough to call guys up until there's readily available testing because you would have to make sure they didn't have COVID-19. I've said this before, but that's why I think more readily available testing is sort of the key for this Arizona/Florida situation to happen.

What "temporary" rules do you think will be instituted during a shortened season that they will just kind of implement after this season because they wanted them anyway...universal DH, pitch clock, robo umps, etc?

I don't get the need for robo umps. If you're all quarantined together -- which you would be -- then that distance likely doesn't matter. It's like saying you need to sit six feet away from your spouse on the couch. You may want to, but you don't have to. ... I think a universal DH would have to happen because of how the leagues would be compromised; it's the only fair way to do it. Plus, pitchers haven't been hitting and have other stuff to worry about. I think seeing a guy on second to start the 10th is a possibility, as you would want to limit extra-inning games if you're playing doubleheaders once or twice a week.

They showed Game 7 of the 1979 World Series last night. Be honest. It's the last time the Pirates are ever in a World Series ?

I don't see how it happens until baseball changes it current financial structure. That goes for any small-market team, not just the Pirates.

Worth noting Minnesota grabbed Sano--offerign a pittance more--after Bucs thought they had Sani signed and sealed.

Was interesting to go back and (briefly) re-read some of that stuff.

More PBC incomptence.

Here's the second part of Bill's message. I was not on the beat at the time and can't say whether it was or wasn't incompetence. But I can certainly understand being frustrated by it if you're a Pirates fan.

How do you not like the Bad News Bears ? It's a classic and unlike the usual formula sports films the good guys don't win. Tanner Boyle is the ultimate teammate. A kid who would beat up other kids for a teammate. The Pirates need 25 Tanner Boyle's cause all they have now are 25 Timmy Lupus's

I knew someone was gonna get a hold of this. Ha. I'm guilty. I don't like it. Maybe I need to watch it again. But I honestly never found it that funny. And again, usually you get crushed when you say that. It's like a hockey writer saying Slap Shot stinks.

Jason, you were at the Pirates camp in Florida just before the Covid virus was widely known to be there. Any word about whether any of the campers got infected?
Jason Mackey
1:07
Nobody got infected, No. 1. And COVID-19 was/is in Florida. There have been no documented instances at Pirate City, nor have their been tests for it, as of two weeks ago when manager Derek Shelton last spoke.

OK, folks. Looks like that does it for this week. Slow start, but you rebounded nicely with the questions. Thank you for that. Until next week ...
