Given the circumstances, I don't know how MLB could look at a player and go after something like that. I would also have to think there are union protections in there. Like, if I felt unsafe on assignment at the P-G, I would be protected by the Pittsburgh Newspaper Guild. Would have to imagine they have something similar.

As the team stands now assuming we have any kind of season, what is an optimistic, realistic and pessimistic place of finish for the buccos?  btw, the next question on a list team is where they stack against the other list teams  :)

The optimistic might be, what, five games over .500? 10 games, something like that? Realistically, I see them flirting with .500. Pessimistic would be that all of the changes they made this offseason had no effect and they weren't much better than a 69-win team (or the equivalent) in a shortened season. I've been saying this for months, but I think the Pirates might surprise some people this year. Not by winning the NL Central, mind you, but I don't think they're going to be the complete dumpster fire they finished as in 2019.

Hey Jason, have you heard of OF Austin Hendrick from West Allegheny? Went to high school with him and I can say he is the real deal. Any sources saying the pirates are looking at OF in the first round?

I have definitely heard of Austin, and the Pirates could do a lot worse, that's for sure. Nothing against Austin at all. I think the Pirates will certainly do their diligence/take a long look. But they just have such a need for pitching right now. That's the direction I see them going.

While I don't think a contract would be terminated--just not paid--I can't imagine the service would be granted, which would be a big deal for some.

I think the guys who are worried about service time would probably go. I think if you decided to skip it, you're probably not as worried about my service time. That's my thought, anyway. I do think both sides should try to be reasonable here and maybe meet in the middle on it.
