Will the Pens trade Malkin?
Jason Mackey
12:53
I don't think so.

Hey, when you coming down to Fla? Would like to buy you a few coffees
Jason Mackey
12:54
Not this year, BigAl. ... Maybe next year, although I think Nubyjas likes the Atlanta-Miami swing. He can go nuts as far as I'm concerned. ... If they wind up in Tampa, I would want that, as my mom spends winters in The Villages, about an hour north.

Is it just me or are the Pirates announcers annoyingly bad? Talk about stupid stuff over and over.
Jason Mackey
12:55
It's baseball. You have to fill the time. In that regard, they're no different than announcers for other teams. I've watched and listened to a lot of baseball broadcasts. Has always been a hobby of mine in the summer. I think the Pirates guys do a tremendous job.

I heard it said on the PM team that the average age of an MLB fan is 57. What is your philosophy on bringing millennials into being fans of the game?
Jason Mackey
12:57
I believe it, first off. And yeah, they need to get younger people talking about baseball. I'd be lying if I said that wasn't a challenge I wanted to take at the P-G -- getting more people to care about a sport I love so much. I think they need to do a couple things. ... One, the games are too stinkin' long. And occasionally boring. I don't wanna watch for 30 minutes and see mound visits, pitching changes, dudes scratching themselves and spitting and one out recording. I'm a baseball dork. I get all of what's happening that maybe you don't see or think about. But you are in the entertainment business and if people are tuning you out, maybe it's time to re-examine how things are done. ... So, they have to shorten the games and make them more watchable.

With all the injuries to SP how close are we to a Keller call up? Also with Hayes with how third base has played out has to be better than Elmore
Jason Mackey
12:59
I would imagine we're knocking on the door. You can't keep livin' with two of your five rotation spots being openers. I wouldn't think so, anyway. Keller seems to be producing some solid results. If he makes two more starts for Indy, I'd probably be shocked. ... As for third base, I'm less inclined to do anything there. No need to force it. I think Moran is serviceable. They have more options. I like Newman there, too.

Jason, the Pirates play in San Francisco September 9-12.  You might want to circle that on your calendar.  Seriously, my question is, what to do with Chisenhall if he ever gets healthy, which is no guarantee.  I don't see him being an upgrade over anyone on the major league roster.  What do you think?
Jason Mackey

I think you have to see, Mark. I think he can be. Also, these situations have a way of working themselves out. In hockey, everyone always wanted to know: Once everyone gets healthy ... ? Same thing. Cross that bridge when we come to it. But if he hits like he has throughout his career, they'll find a place for him. Nubyjas has this San Francisco trip, but yeah, that's gonna be a priority for me here moving forward. Ha.

Hey, 1 quick question while i'm making my way downtown and so walking fast. % Pirates make playoffs
Jason Mackey

I'm gonna go with about 10 percent.

Please don't give a platform to people citing pitcher win loss records as useful data points
Jason Mackey
1:01
I don't think I did that.

Please tell me you're going back to Atlanta
Jason Mackey

I'm not, don't worry.

Which fans are dumber? Pens or Pirates?
Jason Mackey
1:02
I'm never gonna call fans of the team I cover dumb. C'mon. Mostly because they aren't.

Who is your favorite Pirates broadcaster?
Jason Mackey
1:02
Hard to pick, although I think John Wehner does a tremendous job. Really underrated.

How long before these young whippersnappers at PG sports develop the cynicism, sarcasm and arrogance of the old regime?
Jason Mackey
1:03
Not my job to comment on anyone else at the P-G -- or at any outlet in town -- but you won't get cynicism or arrogance here. You may get some sarcasm, but it's all in good fun. I like to think I'm fairly open with readers, accessible and honest about what goes on here. I'm not perfect, but I would never, ever talk down to yinz guys and girls.
1:04
OK, folks. That's gonna do it for me. Got to do a couple things before heading to the ballpark. Thanks so much for participating. Can't wait to do another one of these soon!
