Hi Jason, any insight on the player the Pirates traded to Baltimore for Davis?
Jason Mackey
1:12
Not really. Have never seen him. Have never heard anything about him. Was playing in the Dominican and was probably going to start with the GCL group.

Do the Pirates have a taxi squad for this trip?
Jason Mackey
1:12
No, because it's drivable.

Any chatter out that way about Scherzer being on the move? Soto and Turner aside, seems like the Nats are a mishmash of Pirates/Cubs castoffs. I know they’re coming off a World Series win, but what direction is that team heading?
Jason Mackey

I don't cover the Nationals and wouldn't pretend to know their inner-workings, but I would have to imagine a deal like that, if the Nats pull themselves back into this thing, would be wildly unpopular with the fan base.

For years now I have thought that the Pirates make more mental mistakes, not errors, base running blunders, throws to wrong bases, Will Craig like things, than everyone they play. It seems to me that the new regime hasn't corrected it. But it may be that I'm just noticing it more when the Pirates do it. There can't be some of sort of stat that tracks mental errors, or wrong plays, or failures to make right plays, can there? It seems too subjective to quantify. But baseball frequently amazes me with stuff that's quantified now so...?
Jason Mackey
1:14
Yeah, there's no stat that quantifies mental errors, sadly. Interestingly, if you look at errors committed, the Pirates have improved. They've also improved with things like shift runs saved. But I agree with you, those things have persisted. And I would imagine it's frustrating to see as a fan.

What’s your Breezewood stop of choice? For me it’s the Travelers Oasis.
Jason Mackey

Mine is to keep driving. Have been through there enough to last a lifetime.

Hayes didn't accrue an entire year of service last season, but not enough to project Super 2. Going year to year, and assuming no significant changes to the CBA, Hayes would be arbitration eligible after 2023 and a free agent after 2026.
Jason Mackey

I tried to stay general with my answer, with the CBA expiring after this season. Guess I didn't do a good enough job. Thank you, Chris.

On Rocker and under slot at 1.1, yes, the Boras point is a great one that I had foolishly overlooked. I’m not sure if there’s any history of him ever doing it towards the top of the draft, but if they knew Rocker wouldn’t go until 5th at the highest, then it seems like it’s in their interest to take slightly less than slot, since we have 2M more than the Orioles at 5. But I guess there are other things that enter the equation and we can only idly speculate about so much. Just seems like a kind of weird emergent consensus that he’s not really in play much in the top 5, and the slot differences would be big enough in that case where he could take 1-1.5M less at 1.1 and still get the maximum in amount of money.
Jason Mackey
1:17
I would say he's in play for the top 5. I just don't see them taking a shave, so he can go to the Pirates, that is all.

Have you heard any scouts views on trey mcgough, and what the pirates plans might be on him going forward whether a starter or reliever?
Jason Mackey
1:18
I have not, Andy. I'm sorry. I will investigate that week for you all, though. He seems to be a popular one, so I will get on that and Matt Fraizer.

Saw a media member tweet out today that over his last 9 games, Hayes is hitting .243. Should we be concerned?
Jason Mackey
1:18
No, you should not be concerned. Kaboly is just trying to get people riled up. I saw it.
1:19
OK, folks. That's it for me today. Gonna swing down to the field and stare at the grass for a few minutes before Shelton's pregame Zoom. Talk to yinz again next week!
