If the Pirates don't trade Vazquez or Marte, more or less saying that they will be competitive next year, what are the odds they re-sign Dickerson? If they're going to compete next year, he's definitely someone I'd really like to get back. He's been nothing but an above average if not great player for the Pirates since arriving.
Jason Mackey
12:56
The chances of Dickerson re-signing here are 0.00.

Which do you think is more likely: NH moving off Lux as the ask, or the Dodgers caving on Lux?
Jason Mackey
12:56
I would say NH moving off the Lux ask. However, I'd rather see them not moving Vazquez at all than take crappy return just to do it.

What is the Pirates success rate this year if scoring a man on 3rd base with less than two outs?  It has to be the worst in MLB!
Jason Mackey
12:57
I'm sure you can look that up somewhere. I'm not going to waste peoples' time and do it now, sorry.

I believe that a complete teardown/rebuild is the only way the Pirates will get back to winning again. The 2016 offseason combined with the botched deadline trade from last year set the team back for a couple years I am afraid. Is there any chance of this happening? Look at what the Braves, Padres, etc. have been doing. You have to be content with being bad for a couple years to build the farm system and try to contend in the future.
Jason Mackey
12:58
I think there's a chance, but I don't think that's the direction they're going. I think it's gonna be more about moving guys on expiring contracts.

Not up to me to tell you guys what to answer. I'm happy to ask whatever, honestly. My only wish is if you see a question has been answered, there's no need to ask it again, unless you have OCD where you say everything 2x
Jason Mackey

Thank you for the insult.

Me, Mackey, you know, the supermarket billionaire. Unless the PG is paying WAY too much for your middling services. Love the chats, though.
Jason Mackey

Thanks, Ron. Me and my middling services are happy to have you aboard.

I am among many long time suffering Pirate fans, but the failure to fix the pitching after so many injuries will live in infamy. How does one explain the lack of effort to fix this problem? The cheap owner?
Jason Mackey
12:59
I don't know what else you could blame it on. I can't imagine that Bob Nutting authorized signing Dallas Keuchel, and Neal Huntington was like, 'Nah, I'm good with Montana DuRapau and Michael Feliz opening games." Gotta spend money.

Hey Jason, I know you've said before that one of the main reasons not to move Vazquez is his club friendly contract/term. But isn't that exactly why they would get a ransom in any trade? If he were a free agent next year or in 2021, the return wouldn't be nearly as much. This club is nowhere near ready to compete next year or likely the year after that.
Jason Mackey

They have under contract for 4-5 more years, can't remember exactly which. That's why they can ask for a lot. He's cost-controlled.

Do you see Ke’Bryan on the Pirates major league roster next year?
Jason Mackey
1:01
I think there's a chance. I think a lot depends on how he finishes this season. Short answer: I see him as a midseason callup, but I don't feel 100-percent confident in that.

I probably should have clarified: game announcers who do play-by-play or color. Not talk show hosts or sports reporters, all due respect to Savran.
Jason Mackey

Gotcha. Then Billy is an easy one.

I for one think the Pirates major issue is their development of players. Look how many top players have moved on and been successful in other places. Meadows, Glasnow, Cole, Morton, etc. I think Uncle Ray's magic has vanished. But, I never hear this talked about much. Do you place any stock into this?
Jason Mackey
1:02
I think the guys you mentioned had other issues, but yeah, I agree with part of what you're saying. They haven't been good enough. They also haven't been good enough developing young players before they even make the major leagues. And to be fair to Ray, he's not a "development" guy. He's a major league pitching coach. He absolutely deserves some blame in this, but not all of it.

Jason, I hope that you ignore some of these people that are just posting insults.  You are excellent at your job.  YOu were on the Pens side as well.
Jason Mackey

Thanks, Mike. I appreciate it. I don't get offended. I just imagine logging on to insult someone, but then again, I think that's why Twitter exists.

You definitely don't have to post and respond to this, just wanted you to know that I think you're doing a great job. I always love your work, and hope you continue to do it. Thanks a bunch.
Jason Mackey

My pleasure, Jake. Thank you.

What is the No. 1 reason you see for explaining why the Dodgers' farm system is so much better year in and year out than the Pirates and so many other major league clubs?
Jason Mackey
1:09
Because the people who rank such things -- and have people all over the country evaluating talent -- consistently have the Dodgers above the Pirates.

Tear down, rebuild, what would your core group of current players be?
Jason Mackey
1:10
My untouchables would be Bell, Reynolds and Newman. I'd built around Moran, Frazier, Hayes, Keller, Musgrove, Williams, Marte -- this isn't in any particular order -- Crick and Tucker. Could be missing a few, but you get my point. Would hope Polanco could finally get healthy. Taillon, too.

Do you have any more thoughts on why Archer has been so disappointing here? Is he just in decline, has he tried to change his style to fit in here? Do you think he's still a good pitcher and might do well somewhere else?
Jason Mackey
1:11
I think he's a good pitcher and could probably use a change of scenery. At this point I'm worried it might be a confidence/swagger sort of thing. He needs to get back to who he was before, and I worry whether that's gonna happen here because of how this past year has gone -- a lot of it self-induced, obviously.

Mgr CH can only work w/players GMNH gives him which is controlled by $ budget Neal is given. Having said that I see Cleveland Milwaukee Minnesota and KC (few years back) as small markets that have obviously done a better job with talent eval and development.
Jason Mackey
1:11
Being a small market doesn't prohibit you from winning. Looking at the Rays this year.

You know me and Kramer just kid, correct? Just trying to loosen things up a bit.  You are doing a fine job dealing with us Yinzers

Your opinion, how bad is Pirates second half going to get?  Is this rock bottom or can we go even lower?
Jason Mackey
1:12
I think this is rock bottom. This team is going to make a late, meaningless push for respectability. Watch.
OK, folks. That does it for this week. Thanks again for participating. We're going to do one of these tomorrow, too. Hope you can participate. It starts at 1.
