Yeah, I can't see Stallings clearing waivers at this point. And I don't see how they could bench either Diaz or Stallings for a guy who was hitting under .200 when he was healthy. I think Cervelli may have played his last game as a Pirate.

12:21
This is a bit far fetched but would the Pirates consider trying Will Craig at catcher? He's obviously blocked at 1B by Josh Bell and the depth at catcher in the organization is thin. I also realize learning to play catcher at this stage of a career would a challenge.
Jason Mackey
12:22
Yeah, I think it's a little late for that. I think the best option, if they determine that the outfield is out, is for the Pirates to trade Craig.
Chaz
12:22
Predictions for Arch tonight?
Jason Mackey
12:22
Goes six. Allows two runs, no homers. Walks three and earns the win.

I’ve heard Andrew Filaponi say Will Craig is untouchable as a trade piece, but with josh bell signed for 3 more years and will Craig on the doorstep, what do you do with a guy like this? You also have mason Martin who’s having a great year so there may be some leeway in terms of trading one of the two in a deal to bring back a pitcher.
Jason Mackey
12:23
I would absolutely be looking to trade Will Craig for a pitcher. If there's nothing there, then I wouldn't force it. But untouchable? Absolutely not.
Hurdled
12:23
Maybe this is common knowledge, but why does Hurdle move Moran to second when Frazier gets a night off and Kang plays? Wouldn’t it make more sense to move Kang to second as he’s been a middle infielder most of his life?
Jason Mackey
12:24
I don't think they view Kang as a legitimate option to play second. Also, at least this season, it's been way more important to keep Moran's bat in the lineup than it has been for Kang.

How is Kuhl’s Rehab progressing? Will he be ready for spring training?
Jason Mackey
12:24
Very well, actually. Caught up with him when he was here. Need to write that but have been buried with too much other stuff. He's on schedule to be ready then, yes.

Hi buddy!   This team is really screwing up Nutting's "dream" of a fire sale!     Come July 31st...does this team "add" by NOT trading its current players?    By the way, we've seen hot streaks right before the break before--then collapses AFTER!    Thanks!  Dan
Jason Mackey
12:25
I think they'll wait and see. At this point, yes, I think it would be smart to stand pat. But who knows what the next few weeks could bring.
Chaz
12:25
Hey Jason, Rays are def getting more out of the Archer trade, but honest question, would Meadows be a better option over any of our current outfielders currently? He’s fallen off a cliff since his hot start.
Jason Mackey
12:26
Yeah, I don't get the uproar with that trade, honestly. I mean, I understand wanting Archer to be better. Archer wants Archer to be better, trust me. ... But Glasnow is hurt, and it's not like they have an outfield need. If anything, they should probably think about moving someone whenever they feel comfortable that Polanco is coming back, probably Melky who has cooled some.

Many talk of the need for a salary cap or a minimum base as a must to fix baseball inequities. But we have watched the Pirates trade Austin Meadows & Tyler Glasnow away for a disappointing Chris Archer. The big money teams can afford to buy their way out of a mistake like that. Whatever one may think of Bob Nutting, the Pirates cannot afford to make mistakes like that. So, it seems to me that the only real fix for baseball is to put all teams on an equal footing for revenue by having total revenue sharing like the NFL does. Only then does a minimum salary make sense. Do you have an opinion on this?
Jason Mackey
12:27
I think baseball should have a salary cap. And a salary floor. I think that's the first step, and it should be the most important step. I actually loved how hockey structured things. Put that on a larger scale, and I think MLB would be better for it.
Mr. Crabs
12:27
Has Moran’s solid first half changed the course for a Ke’Bryan Hayes call up this season?
Jason Mackey
12:27
Yeah, I think so. And I would think that Hayes' finger injury changed that, too. Right now I would imagine he's gonna have to wait. No need to rush it at this point.
Mr. Crabs
12:28
i Know Bell is a Boris client, and his clients tend to play out their rookie contracts, but any chance the Pirates look to lick him up before his arbitration years start?
Jason Mackey
12:29
Would imagine/hope you mean lock him up, because I'm not comfortable commenting on the other stuff. ... Yeah, I would imagine they try. Might be tough, though; with the way this season is going for Bell, there's no way in hell I would sign anything right now. Let the star keep getting brighter.
Bobby
12:29
Will Diaz remain the starter when Cervelli returns?
Jason Mackey
12:29
If he keeps hitting, yes. Although he has cooled some. Regardless, I think we're still a little bit away from that being a realistic possibility.
Bobby
12:29
Any chance the Pirates sell low on Polanco and use rhe money to resign Dickerson?
Jason Mackey
12:30
I can't imagine Corey would want to re-sign here. Outfield is too crowded, he'll have other offers that are better for him. ... If they can get something on Polanco, I think it would make sense to try, but I don't know if they can.
Mr. Crabs
12:30
Is the Cole trade evening out a bit?
Jason Mackey
12:31
A little bit. Moran's emergence has helped. Musgrove is a horse. Cole is a bonafide ace, sure, but I certainly don't think it looks terrible.

Two hour rain delays shouldn't be waited out. An hour is plenty of time. If the game can't be resumed due to weather either suspend it and finish it later at 7 innings or call it a tie.same with extra innings. If it's tied after 9 play one more inning. If it's still tied, call it a tie.
Jason Mackey
12:32
As much as I would like your option, I have no problem with what they did last night. Happens all the time. The downside of playing a sport outside in the summer, one where rain can really cause problems. I like shortened games and ties much less.

Sorry Jason, I don't at all mean punt on Keller, but rather more like you have to give to get, with Stroman being maybe the top pitcher available if Boyd isn't traded. We're not going to improve the team by trading guys who fans with recency bias want to see moved (like Polanco).

I do get the conservative approach to waiting things out, especially with all the question marks and ups and downs this year, and it's possible that Keller himself could be the late season boost for a playoff run, a la Walker Buehler with the Dodgers last year.

My "homer" fan ideal trade would be Craig as the centerpiece for Stroman, but I don't think it's quite enough. Maybe squinting, Craig, Cal Mitchell, and a third solid piece, but I think it's probably homerism. Anyways, I am being verbose here, but I guess my main question is if you think Stroman's trade value would demand Keller, or if he might be had for something not as valuable.
Jason Mackey
12:33
If you could get Stroman without giving up Mitch Keller, I'd be all for it. My issue would be letting Keller go. It's too early for that.
Mr. Crabs
12:33
What would the dodgers have to offer up to get Felipe. I’m starting at Bellinger. Kidding of course. Or am I?
Jason Mackey
12:34
Right now, if they keep winning, I agree with you. But if the bottom falls out, I would absolutely consider it. They're obviously not going to get Bellinger, but if they got max return -- while giving up their closer when these guys are fungible and the Pirates are, in this hypothetical scenario, going nowhere -- I would have to at least listen.
Bobby
12:34
What pitcher do you think would start in the wild card game if they were to make it
Jason Mackey
12:35
Ha. I wanna ask Clint this question just to see his head pop off. At this point, I would imagine Musgrove, but, umm, I think we might be a little far away from that.

In addition to being ineffective, its seems Archer can't be counted on healthwise (maybe those are related).  They can't trade him, so I'm thinking the only thing to do is put him in long relief and hope for the best.  They need a reliable starter in that spot, either by trade or perhaps Agrazal. What say you?
Jason Mackey
12:36
Absolutely not. You don't take a guy like Archer and make him something he's not. They've done enough of that already. What they need to do with Archer is let him pitch how he wants to pitch. They're starting that with the lack of two-seamers. I feel like they've tried to make him too much of a Pirates Pitcher, and he's gotten away from what made him effective other places.
Mr. Anderson
12:36
What are chances they try to trade Dickerson since the won't likely sign with Pirates?
Jason Mackey
12:37
Right now, with Dickerson hitting and the Pirates on the upswing, not very good. They might think they can re-sign him, and I hope they do. ... Melky would be a better candidate at this point, honestly.

Hi Jason. What is the current status of Jameson Taillon? I am hoping he can avoid surgery. In his place do you see Hurdle continuing with Steven Brault or Dario Agrazal
