Good afternoon Jason when do you think Brault will be back let’s go Bucs
Jason Mackey
2:10
Could be as early as this weekend, honestly. Threw on the 23rd. Turn is up again soon. Planned to ask Shelton about that here shortly. Maybe -- maybe -- he gets one more start in Indy.

Hi Jason, love all the great work you do covering the Buccos! Just wondering what is the update on Miguel Yajure's injury at Triple-A and do you think we will see him throw again in Pittsburgh this season?
Jason Mackey
2:10
Hey Zack. He's throwing bullpens and ramping up. Should know more today from Todd Tomczyk. And yes, I do expect him to return this season.

Do you think the Pirates DFA Polanco after the trade deadline? What would be the point of playing him?
Jason Mackey
2:11
That they don't have anyone better and have to play him anyway. But, yeah, I think they would DFA him eventually if he's stinking -- he has been better of that -- and they can't trade him.

Have you heard any trade interest in Chad Kuhl this week?
Jason Mackey
2:11
I have not, no.

What did Philly offer? Also, I'm thinking Rodriguez to the Dodgers...
Jason Mackey
2:11
Could be. Offer for whom? Rich Rod? We don't know that.

Hi Jason. Curious as to your opinion of the quality of the minor league staffs. While it’s nice to accumulate prospects with a lot of upside, I think it’s the development of those prospects that is more important.
Jason Mackey
2:13
No doubt. That's equally as important. I'm actually really impressed with those guys. Know Espo the most. Have chatted with Mattison and Johnston some this season. Matt Ford is really bright. Miguel Perez has done a great job relating to players. They also have some outstanding instructors. I think it's an organizational strength, for sure.

Doesn’t Shelton realize how dumb he sounds when he talks about how challenging it was for Oviedo last night? He had a bullpen full of guys he could have used and this was his pick. Plus if you are a bullpen guy don’t you have to know you could be used any day, any time?
Jason Mackey
2:14
I don't fault Shelton for trying Oviedo. He was a starter before. They had him start some in Indy. Shelton wanted to see what Oviedo could do here. He stunk, obviously, but I don't find an issue with how Shelton handled it.

BC will never say it, but it sure looks like the Bucs are playing for the '25 - '27 window.  Reynolds' arbitration years end in '24.  Is he dealt this time next year?
Jason Mackey
2:14
I think the window will be earlier than that. I usually tell people 2023-24 is around when you will see them competitive again. Reynolds still fits within that, and I think they will keep trying to re-sign him and find common ground on an extension.

When does Polanco see his last action as a Pirate?
Jason Mackey
2:15
Not sure. Next couple of days? He very easily could be traded. Also, Polanco has been half-decent lately. Not like I picked up his 2022 option or anything, but you don't immediately need to DFA him because you're mad. Still have to pay him. Who else is pushing for time? Play Alford, sure, but that doesn't mean you automatically DFA Greg, especially if they can get something for Gamel.
Justin
2:16
When Moran comes back, do you think Nogowski gets a lot of RF time?
Jason Mackey
2:16
I think it's an option they'll explore. Depends on what happens with Polanco and others. But yeah, I don't think Colin Moran loses his job because John Nogowski hit for a couple weeks.

2:16
After losing Anderson yesterday and Brubaker not only struggling, but nearing an innings limit, could that give Cherrington pause on moving Kuhl if he draws interest? We see what happened to Oviedo last night. Keller doesn’t seem to be making big strides. At some point the big league club is gonna need some reliable starters to finish out the year, right?
Jason Mackey
2:17
Not to the point where you would turn down potential trade return. They could have Cahill coming back. Yajure, too. Brault maybe this weekend. If Kuhl draws interest, you do it.

Rich Rod next guy out? Then who?
Jason Mackey
2:17
I'm saying Stratton.

TBD is starting again tonight. Will he go 5?
Jason Mackey
2:17
My guess is Kranick gets the ball. And yes, I think he goes five on the nose. Not perfect, though.
Noel Gallagher
2:17
Any idea when Henry David will start playing in Bradenton?
Jason Mackey
2:18
Davis, and he's there now. As for games, maybe a week or so? Not quite sure. But he's at Pirate City now doing onboarding stuff.

Where does the 14 million come from? Does MLB give it to the PBC?
Jason Mackey
2:19
That's a good question. I actually need to find this out. It came up last year, too.
Brendan

Hi Jason, always been curious as to how a trade comes together. In my Fantasy Football league I always approach knowing the player I want but I would assume that is a lot different for many reasons with a professional baseball organization. Who approaches who and how do they get a foundation for the deal? How often are trades held up due to one tiny concession that won’t be made?
Jason Mackey
2:20
I think it's a little different than your FF league. With this, you have a lot of cursory talks about interest, who's available, that sort of thing. If you have a match, you start talking. I can't say how often trades are held up over concessions as I'm not the one making them. But Cherington has outlined the first part before.

Thanks, Jason, for the chat. It seems that the Pirates are rebuilding the farm very quickly. My question is who, if any, of the farmhands should we expect to be most excited to see? Any Cutch level superstars in the mix?
Jason Mackey
2:21
I think I got this one already. My apologies.

2:21
Jason, wouldn't it be better for me to finish AAA this season? Doesn't playing so much this year cut into my service time?
Jason Mackey
2:21
I'm not worried about your service time. I wanna see what you can do. If you can play, I'll pay you.
Zack Zeigler
2:21
Hi Jason, great coverage of the team!! I was just wondering if there was any update on the Miguel Yajure injury in Triple-A and do you think he pitches in Pittsburgh, of Indy for that matter, again this season?
Jason Mackey
2:21
I think he does. He's throwing bullpens. Expect to learn more later.
My name is Greg
2:21
Jason, sir, you are awesome. I play right field for the Pirates. Most people don't know that. I make big money. Will I be traded? Please?!
Jason Mackey
2:21
There's a chance, Greg. Always a chance.

Any reason not to bring Brault up and start him rather than in a rehab situation in AAA? Are they worried he’ll be worse than Oviedo?

I plan to go to an Altoona game next year with my brother. Any recommendations for other things to do up there?
