Thanks for your chats. You Dona good job all the way around.  Fans can’t miss a thing.

Thank you much.

Before I crush Shelton, did Park bunt on his own last night? Please tell me a sac bunt wasn’t called down 4-1
Jason Mackey
1:18
Yes, he bunted on his own.

Just a comment, not a question: I understand and support what the Pirates are doing and feel that Cherington has the chance to be the best Pirates GM since Syd Thrift. But after a beat down like the one the Bucs just took in Cincinnati it’s hard not to feel that the situation is hopeless. I’m sure you get that, but this is tough for lifetime fans like myself, who grew up during a period in the 60s and 70s when the Bucs organization was the envy of baseball.

I don't understand the need to compare what's happening at the major league level to progress with prospects, development, etc. They're related in no way. They're also designed to lose.

How many times did you watch the Trea Turner slide?
Jason Mackey

Next time will be my first.

It's always curious to see how players handle seasons like this, where it's not competitive and some days may seem to drag - how do you handle the day to day grind of following a bad team?
Jason Mackey
1:21
The same as I would a good team. I'm not a fan, Steven. Reporters can't be fans. If they lose, we write. If they win, we write. It's my job to find storylines, to execute them, to hopefully break news, to be professional, to meet deadlines, to know things, to analyze, to develop sources. Has nothing to do with winning or losing baseball games.

Do you think the era of someone like Mike Lange or Jon Miller or Scully calling baseball games - transcending sports by feeling like a family member to listeners - is over or will there be announcers again who connect with listeners about more than sports? So many of the new guys are too robotic.
Jason Mackey
1:21
Agree with you there. I hope in time that happens again, but we're losing some great ones. And Mike was no doubt that. He was one of the greatest to ever do it. A Hall of Famer in every sense of the term.

If the DH comes next year I can see a role for Newman as a 26th guy defensive late innings guy. Wouldn’t want to waste a prospect or overpay for that role.
Jason Mackey
1:22
I wouldn't want to commit to that. I'd want more offense on my roster if I'm the Pirates.
Donna

Hi Jason.  Of our minor league outfield prospects, which of them would you say has the best arm for right field?  Thank you.
Jason Mackey
1:22
That's an easy one, Donna. Oneil Cruz. He has an absolute cannon.

Why does Derek keep using Keller(the one in the bullpen)
Jason Mackey
1:23
They don't have many better options, one. But I think they like his stuff -- he throws hard with solid spin -- but needs a chance to harness it and make it consistent.

To the other guy, saying there's no 1-3 type starting pitcher in the system is just pure ignorance
Jason Mackey
1:23
You can say what you want about the big club -- it isn't good -- but saying those guys stink, I didn't get that.
Otis

How much does offense factor into a gold glove? Stallings is the best defensive catcher by a large margin. Will it go to Molina again just because?
Jason Mackey
1:23
It's an award based on defense. So, none.

What AL division is most interesting for you to cover stadiums teams and all?
Jason Mackey
1:24
Hmm ... that's a good one. Thank you for that. I've always wanted to go to Oakland, but I think I would have to go with the Yankees. Have never been to the Bronx. Yankee Stadium, the history. How can you not?

If this hasn’t been asked: Who do you think are the September callups?
Jason Mackey
1:25
Chavis and Tucker intrigue me. Yajure, too. Maybe Cruz if he's healthy, to give him a taste. But I wouldn't force it. Maybe Cal Mitchell? Mason Martin? There will only be a couple remember, since they trimmed those down.

Going back to your MiLB.TV comment - bradenton is not one of the teams on it. They have to be playing at a park that feeds in to see the Marauders. It stinks.
Jason Mackey
1:25
I'll have to look into that. I could almost swear I watched Bradenton earlier this season on it. Maybe it was a road game. In any case, the point remains: follow the minor leagues. You'll be glad you did.

Don’t they have dollar hot dog nights any more?
Jason Mackey

I believe they do.

Does it make signing Bryan Reynold to a long term contract harder since he’s having such a good season so far?
Jason Mackey
1:26
Eh, maybe. Not to me. They need to sign the guy. Figure it out. He's producing. To me, that's a good problem to have.

Are you old enough to remember Mike Lange and Steve Blass doing baseball on cable, when cable wasn't a very big deal? Lange was great.
Jason Mackey
1:26
My dad told me about it. I may have seen some old games, but I was 3-4 years old. So, I can't say I have any vivid memories or something like that.
1:27
OK, folks. That does it for me this week. Talk to you next week from Los Angeles! Thanks so much for stopping by!
