Good question, Derrick. Was going through this stuff the other day, and here's what I came up. If I had to make a couple bold predictions, I'd say they non-tender Trevor Williams and trade Joe Musgrove. Love both guys. But I'm trying to think of the best business decisions here. So that leaves you with Taillon, Keller, Brubaker, Kuhl, Brault and Ponce. You can start Ponce in Class AAA and hope to grow with the other five. As for someone who could potentially join, I would look at maybe Cody Bolton, their 11th-best prospect at the moment.

What do you anticipate the opening date payroll to be?

Umm ... not much. Ha. Probably around $55-$60 million.

What's going on legally with Felipe Vasquez? Has he been tried or sentenced or anything?
Jason Mackey

He's in custody. The trial is supposed to begin later this year or in early 2021. Believe the current state of affairs involves some haggling over what evidence can be used and what can't stemming from how he was questioned and taken into custody.

Do you think the Pirates would ever bring McCutchen back to end his career in Pittsburgh?

I don't think so. Seems like he's pretty happy in Philadelphia, one. Two, I don't know how much that stuff matters to Ben Cherington. If it does, he doesn't show it. He's very business-like and matter-of-fact about everything. Unless there was a baseball-related reason for Cutch to come back, I don't see it happening.

Why is it a good portion of the fan base and the media are always trying to trade away players to get something. I never hear the pens say we have to trade Crosby before he leaves. What ever happened to resigning someone or just letting them play out their contract, we very rarely get a good player back anyway

I get it with the Pirates. I get it with all teams really -- you're trying to help them improve by being the armchair GM -- but I really understand it with the Pirates. They've made some stupid trades. They should be criticized. I also think it speaks to something that I think is fascinating about the Pirates: People so badly want this team to be good. Look, I think this is an awesome baseball town, although we've only seen slices of it. Or at least for those of us who are younger. I'm jealous of those of you who got to enjoy when this place was really hopping. I came aboard in the early 90s, when I was in the 7-to-10 range. But people want the Pirates to not stink. And if they have to fix it themselves, damnit, that's what they're going to do.

I read something on Yahoo a week or two ago that said the NL is NOT having the DH next year. I gather you haven't seen that?

I saw it, but I still think there's time, room and an appetite for change.

OK, folks. That's it for me today. Thanks so much for doing this. I know there's a lot going on, but we had a good little chat. Talk to yinz next week!
