Do you get the feeling a trade for pitching happens sooner than later? If not cease as reported, who do you think is the likeliest fit
Jason Mackey
12:59
Nobody actually reported Cease. A more likely fit is probably one of the Marlins guys: Cabrera or Braxton.

Who do you see most likely to grab the fifth rotation spot out of Quinn, Roansy, and Ortiz? Quinn came back up late in the season and showed flashes of improvement and got his heater/sinker up to 97-98, so I’d think the Pirates would want to utilize him more.

Got this earlier. At this point, I would go with Priester. I think he showed the most improvement last season.

Happy Holidays Jason! What is a reasonable timeline on Brubaker & Burrows pitching ever fifth day again?
Jason Mackey

I think midseason, June or July. I just think the outings will be much shorter than usual. Don't want to risk anything.

How did the Pirates keep the Endy injury quiet for awhile?  I read your story questioning the recent catching moves prior to the announcement. So your radar was up. Did you think injury at the time? I didn’t. I didn’t even know he was playing winter ball.

I saw he was playing, then not. Started contacting some scouts. Was pretty quiet. Not sure how they kept it quiet. Must not have been one decisive play. They're pretty secretive about that stuff. Would imagine trying to protect the player.

Hey Jason, big fan.  Related to the potential big news and trade mentioned in the Cutch article, was this related to a specific trade/negotiation you were hearing or just more of reading the tea leaves?
Jason Mackey
1:02
It's not a specific trade but more a desire to add a pitcher with years of control and the most likely way of doing it. Also Cherington saying they have offers and have turned them down. Combination of stuff.

Francys Romero listed the Pirates as one of 4 teams still in the bidding for Yariel Rodriguez. Have you heard anything on that front?
Jason Mackey
1:04
I have no reason to doubt Romero's reporting. That said, look at the other teams. Not sure why Rodriguez would pick the Pirates over those other clubs, and I also don't see how Pittsburgh could or would out-bit them for his services.

million dollar contract doesn’t count on payroll while he is playing the next 10 years? It’s bad enough they can spend that much but not having to have it count is disgusting a reeks of cheating. Sorry hit return halfway through.

Yeah, I can't stand the Ohtani deal. And nothing against the player. I just don't think it should be allowed.

No Grateful Dead reference yet? Try this Jason next time you're at the Drs.                                      I sing this to the nurse all the time that takes my BP. :                                                                                           Ain't no luck, I learned to duck

Very nice. Back to back, chicken shack. Son of a gun ...

Thoughts on Martin Perez? He didn’t pitch much in the playoffs which doesn’t give me much hope.

I'm intrigued. Again, one of the things this group has done legitimately well is fix starting pitchers, specifically lefties. I'm willing to hear 'em out at this point.
OK, folks. That does it for me this week. Have some other stuff I had to schedule this afternoon. Did my best to get through everything. Hope yinz enjoy the holidays. Not gonna be doing anything next week. Talk to ya in a couple!
