Hey Bruce. Believe I addressed this one before. Thank you, as always, for participating.

Which type of trade makes more sense for the Pirates. Musgrove for a few lottery tickets or package him with Frazier  and or Brault for a stud?
Jason Mackey

I don't think you would be able to package Frazier and Brault for a stud, unless we're talking about horse breeding, in which case this is very weird. But if you're asking me which trade would net more return, I'd have to say Musgrove, because of his experience. I like Brault a lot. I think Frazier is a solid second baseman. But they both have faults, and neither has so much as been to the postseason while Musgrove has a ring.

Hi Jason, really enjoy the chats and your analysis.  How much did it suck for you personally that they waited until Christmas eve to announce this trade?  Would there have been anything wrong with waiting until Monday 12/28 to announce it?

Ha. It ... wasn't great. I have a wife and two little boys. I cover a summer sport. I don't understand why I'm losing out on a Christmas with them. And please don't tell me because it's so damn important or whatever. It's a game. It can wait. If you're asking me my personal opinion, MLB should step in and prevent transactions of any kind on Dec. 24-25, at least, maybe more. Just because something is allowed doesn't make it right. We did the best we could. My job is to write about the Pirates, and this is a huge story. But to say it didn't impact how much I was able to enjoy Christmas with my family would be a lie. It is, however, what I signed up. So please don't read that as complaining. I just wish there was a rule against it like there is in the NHL.

Any chance the pirates could move Polanco maybe in a package deal with Musgrove?
Jason Mackey
1:09
I think there's a better chance of moving him to tears than to another team at this point.

Do you think Cederlind ends the season as the closer?
Jason Mackey

I'm not sure that's what they're going for here. I think there's a chance, sure, but it certainly strikes me as more of a by-committee approach like the Rays have. I do think he'll finish the season as one of their primary relievers. I just don't think it will be in a traditional closer's role.

Where do you see the true strengths of the minor league system to be?  Middle infield types?
Jason Mackey
1:11
Yes. Middle infielder, for sure. They have a couple of possibilities in the outfield, too. I like what Cherington has done on the pitching side. But they still lack overall depth and especially catching.

OK, everyone. Looks like that's it for this week. Thanks so much for participating. Can't wait to do this again next week. Hope everyone has a Happy New Year!
