Lost him to the Angels.

I think Nick Gonzalez should be brought up and left to play everyday at second by the end of June.  Seems to me a pure hitter like him can learn at the pro level just as well as at AAA.  Agreed?
Jason Mackey

Nope, I don't. Let him develop. He's not ready. The major league team's shortcomings should not cause development issues for prospects.

When are your predictions that we see Cruz  Contreras And Martin
Jason Mackey
12:58
Contreras soon. Cruz when he starts hitting. I still think it'll be a bit for Martin, to give Yoshi more run and make sure there's nothing there. (I don't think there is personally.)

Hey Jason first time here. Is Shelton managing this team or is he being managed and told who and when to play who?
Jason Mackey
12:58
It's not either/or. It's collaborative. He makes the decisions, but they're usually in consultation with game-planning/analytics/front office.

Does Cole Tucker get DFAd / traded / otherwise jettisoned this year? He has never really performed at any level, even in the minors. Change of scenery candidate, I would think.

They don't NEED the 40-man spot. I don't know what you would trade him for or why you would do that. You don't trade stocks at their lowest point. I think you send him down and see what happens. If you need the 40-man spot, maybe you do something. But that day is not today.

Jason, the high rankings our farm system are not reflected in the current W-L records of the top 3 teams: Indy 17-17, and both Altoona and Greensboro at 14-19. Should this be a concern for what we’re hoping to see in a couple years?

Not at all. Win-loss records for minor league teams are nice, but they don't paint a complete picture. I barely pay attention to them.

Why do you think 2b is never discussed as an option for Cruz?  That's where just about every other questionable-fielding shortstop goes, and would maintain at least some of the up-the-middle value that he has.  And his arm can still be used on cutoffs there.

He wants to play shortstop. I'm not sure how that gets fixed moving him to shortstop. The only thing you're doing at that point is wasting his arm.

I'll try again on the question about options. I've been in the majors and am at the point where I'm out of options. Then I become a free agent but I can't get a deal with a major league contract so I sign a minor league contract with someone and eventually get called up. Can I be sent down again because I was signed to a minor league deal or do I still go through the DFA process before I can play in the minors? Hope that's more clear.

You still have to go through the DFA process. Believe once you're out of options, you're out. Hence why they had to handle Alford the way they did.

Hey Jason, have you heard anything on what Henry Davis is dealing with in Altoona? The quotes from the Curve manager made it seem really suspicious and non-specific as to why he’s not been in the lineup.

It's a left wrist contusion. He's on the seven-day IL.

(For the record, I want Cruz at shortstop.  I'm just saying that the *team* seems hellbent on moving him to LF... and 2b just seems like it'd be a much better compromise)
Jason Mackey

He doesn't want to move. Again, I would ease off the position stuff, let him play SS and hit, then revisit later.
OK, folks. That does it for this week. Thanks so much as always. Gotta run for now. Will talk to yinz from Wrigley. Always appreciated you reading and following along.
