Hi Jason,  is there any chance the Pirates can get Omar Khan to run operations this offseason. The Steelers may or may not be better this season but there is definitely a lot of excitement for it, and that’s attributed to Khan and his moves. I feel this offseason is as important to the Pirates as there ever has been.

How about someone with actual small-market experience instead?

Any chance Mlodzinski gets a shot at closing. I don't believe he's given up more than one or two earned runs in his first inning of pitching, including during his early year starts.

Interesting theory. Right now, I'm cool with Dennis Santana doing it. I do like Mlodzinski more as a reliever, though. And a late-inning one. Maybe that becomes a closer. Not against it.

Do the Steelers look at the wide receiver market and think that there is nothing better out there that is better than what they have in house. Do you agree?
Jason Mackey

Seems that way, no? Maybe they don't want to pay the price? I don't know. And, no, I don't agree. They need wide receiver help.

I was reviewing the Steelers schedule and there are a bunch of games that are 50/50 that they win. Steelers did win a few 1 score games last year. Does that equate to a 9-8 or 10-7 record to you?
Jason Mackey

I think they go 10-7 or maybe -- maybe -- 11-6.

Hey jason - I’m not absolving cherington of the bad trades, but I have no problem giving him credit for the future of pirate pitching, especially given the economics in play and the fact that they could never sign a free agent pitcher beyond the reclamation bin. The reality is that if suwinski, davis, Rodriguez , Hayes and/or Cruz were 3/4 of their projection, we’d be calling him a genius. And I do think it is fair to question whether those guys underperformed on their own, if the pirates over valued them, or if they straight up just ruined them.
Jason Mackey
12:32
Sure. I agree with you. That's fair. But if I build a house that has two or three walls, do you want to live there? Probably not. Cherington has absolutely done some good things, no doubt. But we're talking about 76, 76 and maybe 66-70 wins in years 4, 5 and 6 of a regime change. That's not good enough.

On the Wr2 discussion, the Steelers think they are smarter than everyone else. They are going to throw 3-4 TEs out there with metcalf and be lauded for their innovation! Or they’ll continue to drop third down passes, pick up four when you need six, and run a flea flicker and think it will surprise someone.

I don't agree with you, Elvis. But thank you for the thoughts.

I think the Steelers will target Metcalf a bunch. They could sign a WR2, as well. They'll throw to Jonnu Smith. Not sure we'll see 4 tight ends at once. I just worry about an injury and how to replace it.

Elvis, you are now free to leave the building.

So are the rest of you, actually. Gonna head out, as we're through this week's questions. Thanks so much for participating. Talk to yinz next Thursday!
