I don't know who you're looking to see who's likely ready? Just because a guy gets good results for a third of a season in Triple-A, it doesn't mean the organization is doing him a disservice by keeping him there. Guys are working on goals such as landing a breaking ball behind in the count consistently or developing a third or fourth pitch or other subtle things you don't see.

Why are Pirates prospects so criminally underrated by the national media and the big sites? They overhyped certain teams prospects and completely ignore or devalue our guys. They all missed on Jones and Ortiz, Chandler looks like the best pitching prospect possibly in baseball right now, Harrington has been under the radar solid, Termarr just turned 20 and is playing AA ball and raked since May after a slow start. That's not even factoring in solid seasons from Meuth, Severino, Ashcraft, Yorke, Barco, Brannigan, and others. Now some of the guysbi mentioned are in the top 100, but if they were in say the Dodgers system theyd be unanimous top 20 instead of fringe. Our farm system is currently ranked in the 20s by most outlets, which makes sense as we've graduated about 20 guys from the last 2 years top 30. But it's really frustrating seeing our guys perform well, better than top guys in "better" systems, and the media being underwhelmed.

Who gives a crap about the rankings? Dead serious. Eddy Yean, Hudson Head and Tucupita Marcano were top-10 guys. People get too hopped up on that stuff. I don't get it. You wanna have more, obviously. Falling to 27th ain't great. But acting offended because scouts see an imperfect process a certain way ... I just don't get it. Would also imagine there's evidence of this from all organizations.

Jason, if I win 10 in the regular season and somehow manage not to surrender 45 points in a wildcard game, will I win back any love from your average yinzer?
Jason Mackey
12:30
Ha. I like this. I think so, yeah. Or close to it, I should say. Winning 10 is a start. I think you need to win a playoff game, though, Mike. Been too long.

Jason, do I ever discuss with the staff the benefits and rationale of playing a guy at the position in which he was drafted? Or would it fall upon arrogant deaf ears?
Jason Mackey
12:31
Do you mean Broderick Jones? I don't think that's Omar. Dan Moore Jr. can't play the right side. He has talked about that. The best construction of their line, right now, involves Moore at LT and Jones at RT. Once Troy Fautanu comes back, I think you'll see Jones on his natural left. If you're talking about something else, lemme know.

Hi Jason, I realize the conditions being as they were..brutally hot, weekday afternoon, school back in session but did you ever think two months ago we would have a crowd this small for a Paul Skenes start? The fans have left the building.Major changes needed atop the organization.
Jason Mackey
12:33
I didn't think so, no. But I also didn't see them losing 18 of 25 entering the game, including a 10-game losing streak. Not sure anybody did. Has become rotten. I don't blame people for staying home.

Jason, this uncomfortable delay is primarily due to: 1) money and/or length of contract, 2) determining if can actually win this hodgepodge of nothingness, 3) considering that if a move worked out for The Great One, maybe it could work out for Sid The No Longer Kid?
Jason Mackey
12:37
I'm gonna go to some non-Pirates questions here, gang. It's been a lot. ... At this point, I can't imagine it's money or length of contract, right? Why would that stuff take until September to sort out? I think it has to be bigger. Maybe scope of what they're doing. A back-and-forth on direction. Big-picture plan. And, yeah, unfortunately, the the reality that it has happened before. Then discussing what that might look like. I think it still could be wanting to have a clearer picture of the future here, because winning would be complicated. But definitely has been weird.

What do you think Fields role will be this year with the Steelers this season?    Tomlin’s comment on ‘ too much talent to be sitting around all day’  seems to point to they have plans to use him.
Jason Mackey
12:39
For sure. I was talking about this on First 10 today. They have to have a set of plays or something to use him. Not just running, either. I think it probably varies week-to-week, but I would really like to see them ensure he gets involved. Just not on kickoffs.

What should realistic expectations be for Penn State/Pitt football this year? Do you think that they will reach them?
Jason Mackey
12:40
I can't wait for Saturday. Can't wait. They're different. I do think Pitt can win 7 games. Some will say that would be a disappointment, and I get it. Maybe they get to 8. I think they'll go to an OK bowl. I think Penn State wins 10 and gets to the CFB, losing in the first round.

Jason, you are everywhere, everyday! Thanks for the great work. Question: Am I a bad person for rooting harder for Mason Rudolph at Tennessee than I am for the Steelers this season?
Jason Mackey
12:41
Trying my best. Hard to keep everything straight. I don't know about ranking things, but there's nothing at all wrong with rooting for Mason Rudolph.

12:41
I was hoping Northwestern would take Lyke.  I agree with Paul Zeise that she hasn’t really done much for Pitt especially in football and basketball.
Jason Mackey
12:42
I'm a little surprised that seemingly hasn't worked out. The more we talk about this, the more I hear, the more I just kinda think that this isn't gonna work out. Probably best for Lyke to get where she wants to go and Pitt to get what it wants. I'm not sure there's much traction in the whole thing.

Still convinced over 74.5 is safe?
Jason Mackey

Yes.

You wrote an interesting column about the pressure on Franklin and Nardo. My guess is that neither is under that much pressure because of contracts that extend so far into the future. Franklin keeps filling the stadium, and Nardo always has that '21 ACC championship to fall back on. Maybe in a couple more years their seats will get hotter.
Jason Mackey
12:43
I wrote that I thought Pat Narduzzi had more pressure on him. I think that's probably heightened if a new AD comes in here. Now, I get the contract stuff, certainly. But any AD anywhere is gonna want and need a functional football program. I don't think Narduzzi can fall back on '21 if they go 4-8.

What comes first, a Pirate’s post-season win or a Steeler’s post-season win?
Jason Mackey
12:44
Steelers postseason win. This year.

Jason, I'm still a Top 20 D-man, no? Maybe hovering in the upper teens territory?  I play the entire game, move the biscuit, hit when needed, and am quite good looking according to the ladies.
Jason Mackey
12:45
This made me laugh. Funny wording. But, yeah. Top 20? I'd agree with that. There has always been volatility in Letang's game. Will probably continue to be the case. Not sure THAT was the Penguins' biggest issue last season.

12:45
Jason, what is your take on the Penguins swapping No. 1 draft choices last week with the Oilers? Big help this season, or just a move? that may pay off over time?
Jason Mackey
12:46
I'm assuming you're talking about Rutger McGroarty? (That was the Jets. I don't know of any other trades.) But I love it. Seriously. I think McGroarty can contribute right away. He helps them down the left side Plays a rougher game, a true power forward, which they have needed. Not going to lump too much on him, but I was a big fan of the deal.

I know injuries happen, but if I was Art II I would be asking  some questions about the new Steelers training staff. Half of the offensive line is out or hobbled, R.Wilson pulls a hammy pushing a blocking sled, Jaylen Warren pulls a hammy ,,, it's like they've already played nine regular season games.
Jason Mackey
12:47
Russell Wilson was a calf. It's football. I'm not sure I'm pinning the injuries on the training staff. They happen.

Wow it does not look good for any of the 'Burgh sports teams! Pirates flaming out, the Steelers are on mediocre road to 9-8, the Pens are/should be rebuilding, and the Panthers are coming off a 3-9 season. This seems to be the lowest point in our sports history since the 60's. Any hope for the future for any of these teams?
Jason Mackey
12:50
Be careful about saying this could be in the discussion for the lowest point. Gonna get emails from people acting like you've just flooded all their toilets. ... Hope to not suck? Sure. Not sure I'd say hope to win a championship. But I think the Steelers could win a playoff game this year. (Sorry, best I could do.)

Not that I'm aware of, no. So at least we have that going.
