You've actually been better than last season, although that was a low bar.

Will we ever see Lmu Emu and Doug Stadium or will we get Flo Field first? Thanks for that link.
Jason Mackey
12:48
You joke. It's probably not long before ED pill manufacturers sponsor something.
Cullen

Naylor for Barco and maybe a lotto ticket, who says no? If that does somehow get done, the Pirates would seriously look at extending him right? No way they give up prospects for a 1 year rental.
Jason Mackey
12:49
Cullen, in your history of concocting Pirates trades, has one of them ever come to fruition?

Out of curiosity, I did a quick search on which MLB teams have won the most world championships. Yankees (27) and Cardinals (11) lead. The Buccos are in the top 10, tied with the Reds (5). The question: Has any World Series team ever had a worse defensive inning than the Yankees did in the fifth inning last night? Three errors, five unearned runs. Even with O. Cruz at short, I'm not sure if the Pirates could have topped that.
Jason Mackey

That was certainly something. Goes to show the importance of fundamentals. But it was also just freaky. Judge, for instance. It sucks, but if he gets that ball 999 more times, he's making those plays. The Cole thing was wild. Yes, he should have run to first. Rizzo also could have gotten the out himself but never does that. Just a crazy inning. I'm sure there has been a crazier one, but I can't think of it off the top of my head.

You mean to tell me the Penguins farm system is so devoid of defenseman they can't find anyone better than Graves or Matt Grzelcyk ?
Jason Mackey
12:51
Well, I'm not sure I would describe it as stocked. But you're also 11 games in. You're gonna give those guys a chance to play. Grzelcyk hasn't been good. Graves has been better than he was last year. I just don't think you can logically make a roster move with either at this point.

Hi Jason. Really enjoy all your work. If the Pirates do bring Cutch back what are the plans for Henry Davis? I’m assuming Bart & Endy are the catchers and Cutch will most likely DH like this past year. Don’t want to give up on Davis but the clock is kind of ticking
Jason Mackey
12:53
It is, Josh. It's been ticking. If they bring back Cutch, it's certainly odd. And I don't know if they would go into the season with a hard-and-fast plan, because of all that can happen. You don't know about Endy's elbow. You don't know if Reynolds goes to first. You don't know what you're getting out of Jack or BDLC -- assuming they tender him. I could see them shopping Henry. If they keep him, I could see them revisiting right field because it might be the only way to get at-bats.

Why do Pirate fan talk smack about the Yankees when their franchise has been completely irrelevant for 45 years ? The Pirates wouldn't even exist still without the Yankees. Know your place losers. You are an afterthought in Baseball
Jason Mackey
12:54
Yeah, but at least Pirates fans know enough not to touch the players.
12:55
SN: Not sure I can answer for that "smack" talk (hello: 2001), but I can confidently say that Pirates fans are awesome. Would you stay strong and continue to support your team the way these folks have despite the Pirates faring as poorly as they did for 3-plus decades? Pirates fans are my favorite fans because they're real. They care. They can't help who owns 'em. They just want their team to be good.

This is inspired by your "It's Good Time to Sell" column. I have to think that any poll of who the most disliked people in Allegheny County and environs would have Bob Nutting at or very near the top. I gather that doesn't bother him much. But has anyone ever asked him about how he thinks he's perceived locally and how he feels about it?
Jason Mackey
12:57
Yeah, I did a couple years ago. The quote: "I respect that they care so much to get mad. They deserve the team to perform better certainly than it did last year. They expect me to make the decisions, frankly, that we made. It was time for a fresh direction. They deserve to expect that. They should know that I appreciate and respect the passion and the caring."

Nice thought, but I'd miss the pucks!

Then we've got some real problems, Tristan.

Does Dionte J. go off against the Steelers in a couple of weeks? Maybe 6 catches, 90 yards and a TD? Great move by the Ravens, no?
Jason Mackey
12:58
Great move, yes. They gave up nothing, and it's a good situation for Diontae. But I'm not sure I see him going off for 6-90-TD.

12:58
The Yankee fan is still sore from 1960. Buccos were relevant in the early '90s and the early teens. If I was a NY fan, I'd be more worried about the Jets and Giants.
Jason Mackey
12:58
Odd that a Yankees fan even found this place, but to each their own.

Also, the Pirates have the best World Series winning percentage of all time - winners of 5 of 7. Also, the Yankees have lost 14 World Series. But, all due respect to the pinstripes, they are American icons.

You're breathing more life into it than necessary.

Why don't more teams risk trading a high draft pick for a proven player considering the NFL draft is such a crapshoot? A 2nd ir 3rd round pick for a wide receiver to put you over the top seems like a bo Brainerd considering it's almost 50/50 if the guy you draft becomes anything
Jason Mackey
1:02
I don't have a good answer, but I've often wondered the same thing. Cooper Kupp, for example. Now, turns out he wasn't actually on the block. But I absolutely would have given up a second-rounder for him. At his peak, think about what you're getting. The NFL does seem more risk-averse than the NHL or NBA. Obviously can't trade picks in MLB.

As usual, thanks for the great chat Jason. You do this better than anyone. Enjoy the holiday with your kids tonite (if you aren't working, as you seem always to do)!

Thank you. Speaking of which, yeah, I'm gonna call it an afternoon. I'll be trick or treating tonight with Ricky Vaughn and Miles Morales. Can't wait. Thanks so much for stopping by. Love these. Talk to yinz next week.
