They're not trading those guys. Intentionally and irrationally negative. Man, have never heard that bit before!

Is the Penguins recent win streak a mirage or a sign of who they are becoming?
Jason Mackey
12:30
I think it's more than a mirage. Now, is it a sign they're gonna kick it in gear and make the playoffs? That could be a stretch. But I do think it's more than a passing fancy or a fad.

12:31
Which organization is more poorly run, the Pirates or the Browns?
Jason Mackey
12:32
I'll go with the Browns. Maybe it's worse, but the Pirates at least teased their fans for three years (looking since '99 out of fairness). They also operate under severe budget constraints, whether you want to call them self-created or otherwise.
Aces High
12:32
How can the Pirates bullpen possible be better next year with the loss of Chapman when he was one of their better bullpen arms?
Jason Mackey
12:34
They go out and spend some money on relievers? The reality with Chapman is that he was grossly overpaid. Yes, he threw hard. That's fun. But they should be able to recreate a 3.79 ERA and 3.04 FIP in 68 G totaling 61.IP for less than $10.5 million. If they're smart, they might be able to get twice the production.
Ryan Graves
12:34
Am I ever gonna play again ?
Jason Mackey
12:34
Ha. Been a while hasn't it? Would imagine so, yes.
You're fired
12:35
I think Narduzzi needs to fire the Offensive Line coach, the WRs coach and DBs coach. Agreed ?
Jason Mackey
12:35
No.

Do you think the pirates will sign a free agent to a multi year deal this year? It’s crazy that is a question of legit debate, most teams don’t think twice about that kind of commitment
Jason Mackey
12:36
You're not considering the player side here. Yes, they need to. I don't know if I would expect them to. But as bad as they've been, especially recently, why would a player who has other options commit to spending multiple years here? An overpay, I know. Let's hope they do it. They should. But it made no sense to overpay in 2020-22 because they were rebuilding. Last two years, they did spend $35 or so million -- not great but better -- in FA. They just did it inefficiently.
Waste of time
12:37
Congress is voted on a coin honoring Clemente. Isn't this a huge waste of time. I can think of a thousand other people more deserving of this.
Jason Mackey
12:37
You might want to actually read about Roberto Clemente's legacy.

Oregon is gonna stomp us aren't they ?
Jason Mackey
12:37
Nope. Penn State gonna pull off the upset.

How do the Steelers stop Garrett  Sunday ?
Jason Mackey
12:38
Honestly, by doing a lot of what they did against Cincy. Quick passes. Screens. Use his aggressiveness against him. I don't want to see as many deep drops as the Steelers tried on Thursday in Cleveland.

Doesn’t Puljujärvi fit into Dubas’ M.O.?  High 1st rd pick.  What did he do to get into Sullivan’s doghouse?
Jason Mackey
12:39
It's ultimately Sully's lineup. Dubas wouldn't disagree with that. He was producing some level of offense, so I would imagine it's more defense/away-from-the-puck-related than anything.

What are you thoughts on MLB's golden at bat idea?
Jason Mackey
12:41
I hate it. With an absolute passion. Yes, I understand Joe Starkey's argument with traditionalists and how the game has continually changed. But this seems like a gimmicky bridge too far for me. What's next, once a game letting a guy bat from second base? Just because the DH exists, doesn't make it right. I just think baseball -- the most traditional of all the major NA pro sports -- needs to be concerned with making itself TOO amateur hour with some of this stuff. This doesn't help that argument. It's just dumb.

It seems as though the next trade for the Penguins will involve sending out Pettersson. What do you think the return will be? If he's sent to Vancouver would it include a guy like Hoglander and a high pick?
Jason Mackey
12:51
I'd hope it includes both, Jeremy. I'd also hope they cool it on the trades and see where this current run takes them. I understand Hoglander is available, but I would want something else (or multiple things) from Vancouver to make that deal.
Joel Blomqvist

Will I come back up this year?
Jason Mackey
12:51
Yes. Don't buy anything in Wilkes-Barre, young man.
Justin
12:51
Think IKF is the grand SS plan this year?
Jason Mackey
12:52
As of now, yes. I'd expect him to be the every-day guy there. Things can and often do change, though. It's only December.

Is any team paying their back up QB more than we are paying our QB room?
Jason Mackey
12:56
The Jets: Tyrod Taylor ($6 million vs. roughly $4.4 million for Russ and Fields). The Giants: Drew Luck ($5 million). Davis Mills with the Texans is close at $4.2 million. Same for Joe Flacco ($4.5 million) and the Colts. Andy Dalton ($4 million) makes less with the Panthers. I could be missing 1-2, but it definitely happens.

I'm not going to suggest that Cutch shouldn't come back, but do you think a DH only guy who is more a "fine hitter" than  a "good hitter" is a small hindrance to maximizing wins?
Jason Mackey
12:59
Umm, maybe. But Cutch was a 105 wRC+ hitter last year for $5 million -- without any context. Had 20 homers and a .739 OPS. Yeah, maybe the flexibility would help a little. Maybe they could get more offense. I'm also not doing it. Cutch means too much to the Pirates and Pittsburgh's relationship with its baseball team. If I'm charge, I'm cognizant of that and would want to ensure this is done right. (That being said, I'm having a convo with Cutch behind closed doors where we agree this is in, then the org reciprocates by taking care of him and his family forever.)
Bad Guys
12:59
I think its become apparent the 4 major sports have managed to be lead by the 4 worst guys for the good of each sport possible. Manfred with his loony "Golden Batter" idea. Silver with his dumb in season tourney thing. Bettman and the complete garage league he runs and last W&J boy Goddell who might be worst of them all
Jason Mackey

You have your opinions, I have mind. That's not how I would characterize those four at all. It's also misplaced. Those guys work for the owners of the four sports you mentioned. It's not like they're just plucking policies out of thin air. They're hired and retained to implement them. If you're mad at those individuals, you're actually mad at the collection of owners.

OK, folks. That does it for me this week. Gonna hit the road and head to Harrisburg. Thanks so much for doing this. Staying there tonight and taking the train in to NYC tomorrow morning for Pens at Rangers. Talk to you next Thursday!
