So if the usage changes.. how does that change value? A guy with the willingness of andrew miller may be valued differently than someone like Melancon who likes his role? (I realize they're different quality of pitchers)

You'll see closer money going to non-closers. I think this is already starting

And when the money starts getting more evenly distributed, players won't make such a big deal of earning saves in the first place

Could the pen of the future be a closer and a true fireman, used at any point, rather than a 7th inning guy and and an 8th inning guy then the closer. Miller is certainly making that look like a good idea.

Seems like the pen of the short-term future. Gives the manager an excellent option to use early while still leaving another excellent option for the aftermath
