You're right that it would take extra money to keep Lucroy, Cahill, Familia, etc
But I don't see a Treinen move happening. I think they realized how valuable he can be, and they don't have a suitable replacement yet

Who closes in Boston next season?
Jeff Sullivan
10:51
I can see them either re-signing Kimbrel or making a play for Britton
Left Field Sucks
10:53
Schwarber for Merrifield?
Jeff Sullivan
10:53
I can see the argument, but Schwarber isn't the easiest fit on the Royals' present roster, plus he's down to three years of club control. Three years is a lot, but the Royals are probably focusing more on six- and seven-year guys at the moment
10:54
They're not at all likely to be good while Schwarber is still in his arb years

10:54
Do you think the Indians bring back any of Brantley, Miller, or Allen?
Jeff Sullivan
10:54
I think Brantley is more likely than the other two
PD
10:56
Which of these three will have the best career? Manuel Margot, Albert Almora, or Harrison Bader?
Jeff Sullivan
10:56
Margot, then Bader, then Almora
Almora, granted, already won a World Series
10:57
So it depends on how you frame it

10:58
How amazingly entertaining would it be if Clayton Kershaw pulls a 2007 A-Rod and opts out of his contract in the middle of the world series??
Jeff Sullivan
10:58
Would've been funnier if it happened after a dominant start in Game 1
10:59
As is, it would be a hell of a bet on himself after what happened!
What a motivator it would be for the rest of the series

did anyone run a study on relationship between wind speed/direction and knuckle ball success? a quick search net me the following https://www.fantasylabs.com/articles/knuckleball-pitchers-better-wind-...
Jeff Sullivan
10:59
We basically have no information on surface-level wind conditions
Pretty much nothing at all

What team takes a risk on Sonny Gray? Do you think he transitions into the bullpen ?
Jeff Sullivan
11:00
If the Mariners don't want to tear down, Gray would be one interesting buy-low option
He's probably a little expensive for a return to the A's
11:01
I do wonder what the Astros could do with him, given the opportunity
Ed
11:01
What is the probability of a Wil Myers trade this off-season?
Jeff Sullivan
11:01
25%?

What do you think the Twins are thinking wrt Buxton? Is he in the doghouse enough for them to cash him in for what they can get? He'd like fine in CF in Colorado ...
Jeff Sullivan
11:02
His stock has never been lower. This seems like it would be a miserable time to trade him
For better or worse, I think he's still part of the Twins' hopeful formula

Is Chaim Bloom a well regarded analytics guy? If so why would he want the Mets job?
Jeff Sullivan
11:03
Bloom is very highly regarded. He would want the Mets job because there are only ever 30 GM positions at a time, and the Mets would offer one of them
11:04
He would also not want the Mets job if he got the impression he wouldn't have enough autonomy. It's not like, as far as his career is concerned, it's Mets or nothing
Cesar
11:04
How much do you think Roberts is actually making all these decisions? Seems like Friedman and co would be taking a good amount of control
Jeff Sullivan
11:04
Everything is probably discussed in a group setting before the games ever begin. Every decision is talked about so as to get everyone on the same page
Lee
11:05
Is Fox really airing commercials in between pitches now?   Please tell me this isn't the new normal.
Jeff Sullivan
11:05
Apparently they started doing it in last year's World Series
It is the new normal
There's zero incentive for Fox to go back. As they see it, they're making more money, and the people who are watching aren't about to turn it off

Can you explain to me the paradox of postseason stats? If both pitchers and hitters would generally be expected to have worse stats against better than average competition, and playoff teams represent better than average competition, then one could reasonably expect both pitchers and hitters to be worse in the playoffs than they are in the regular season. Yet that can't be true for both of them. What is the rational explanation for this?
Jeff Sullivan
11:06
I'm going to level with you: I'm stuck
