Beyond that, not so clear
10:49
Depending on how they feel about Gray, they might decide they already made their impact addition over the summer

Is spring training the unfun part?
Jeff Sullivan
10:50
The penultimate week of spring training is the worst

Samardizja, based on peripherals and durability, would seem to be an attractive trade candidate this offseason. Given where SF is , do you see them looking to move him as part of a "rebuild on the fly" approach? Cueto elicit any interest out there?
Jeff Sullivan
10:50
I think they hold the staff together and hope for a major 2018 ERA turnaround
JB
10:50
What team do you think is most likely to get Stanton? What kind of package would you expect they are looking for a couple established major leaguers or mostly prospects?
Jeff Sullivan
10:51
When I think about Stanton I think about the Giants, Red Sox, Astros, and Cubs. The Marlins know, or will know, that if they want a showy package back, they'll have to eat a bad contract or pay down a lot of the money. For that reason I could see, say, Heyward going the other direction, along with a couple useful prospects
Raindog
10:52
Can you explain something about the Stanton negotiations for me?  For the sake of getting cheaper in the present and being better in the future, the Marlins have to get back young controllable talent.  For the sake of PR, they have to get back someone with name recognition.  But what team would trade a bigname controllable talent for a bigname expensive talent?
Jeff Sullivan
10:52
Yeah, for the Marlins, the situation sucks. The best solution might be to try to pay him way down after his opt-out. That way, they might not be on the hook for anything. And they could get themselves a stronger player return
10:53
And if they wound up with someone like, say, Heyward, he hasn't been good, but he's at least a recognizable everyday player, with remaining legitimate upside

Should every team in the NL West just despair that no team other than the Dodgers will ever have a real shot at the division?
Jeff Sullivan
10:53
The Diamondbacks are good
Safety Stegosaurus
10:53
What's your concern level on Karlsson's foot?
Jeff Sullivan
10:53
He didn't participate in camp. I'm sure it's going to take some time to get fully up to speed
BESR
10:54
Think the Reds flip Scooter Gennett, similar to Dan Straily last year?
Jeff Sullivan
10:54
I don't know who'd be eager to be on the other end of that
Maybe the Angels

10:54
So for Kershaw- did he help or hurt his playoff narrative this year?   Did Darvish bombing worse than Kershaw ever has in the playoffs indirectly help Kershaw?
Jeff Sullivan
10:54
Helped
It's not put entirely to rest, but it's helped
Raindog
10:55
Am I right in thinking that Stanton if he opts out has huge surplus value, and that if he doesn't he's an albatross?  So a team trading for him is entirely betting on whether he's good enough to opt out?
Jeff Sullivan
10:55
This is why opt-outs are player-friendly

Dee Gordon to LAA
Jeff Sullivan
10:55
You're right, but, bleh
Andy
10:55
Do you see a Tyler Chatwood reunion with the Halos?
Jeff Sullivan
10:56
It's possible, but I think they already have enough risky starting pitching to dream on
I see Chatwood going somewhere more like Baltimore
ATCQ
10:57
Is Justin Upton good at defense?  Heard some conflicting reports
Jeff Sullivan
10:57
Roughly average range, below-average arm
Mark
10:58
thoughts on J UP's deal?
Rockie Dangerfield
10:58
The Rockies are (finally!) getting a new scoreboard this winter.  Therefore, they should also trade for Stanton, just to see if he can put a dent in it, a la kickers trying to hit the 'tron in Jerry World.
Jeff Sullivan
10:58
There are transactions that ought to be made, and there are transactions I wish would be made
This is one I wish would be made
10:59
Stanton, Judge, Gallo. Put 'em all in there. Trade everything to get them. I don't care
Hell, add Sano too. Go crazy!
Rick
10:59
It would seem so Dipoto if he went and traded Edwin Diaz to the Cubs for Ian Happ. Or for Schwarber to play 1B.
Jeff Sullivan
10:59
I've heard worse ideas

Throughout the playoffs, 30% of the Dodgers hits given up were HRs. I believe normal is around 15%. Is there any way to explain this?
