Well, if Pujols makes a stink, it's not bad publicity anymore. Fans would turn on the player
As is, I imagine Pujols can't be stubborn forever. Somewhere in 2019, when it becomes clear Pujols just can't play well anymore, I imagine there will be some behind-the-scenes negotiating where Pujols agrees to retire, and the Angels agree to give him the rest of his contract anyway

I'm all for estimating surplus value and do it in dynasty as part of my trade analysis.  But, surplus value isn't everything.  It's only a piece of the puzzle.  

I can't believe Panik/Beede/Shaw is enough to get the Marlins to move Stanton.

Surplus value isn't everything, especially when we're just trying to come up with estimates. But it is a necessary factor, and even a necessary starting point, because too many people fail to understand that the contract situation has just as much to do with a player's value as his own actual talent

Imagine if Stanton were under contract for 10/$600m, instead of 10/$295m. Then how would you feel about Panik/Beede/Shaw?
