If I recall the lead-up to the draft, Swanson was one of about half a dozen who could have gone first overall in what was projected as a weak draft class. Maybe AZ took him knowing he would look the best of the bunch once he was dressed up? Having "First Overall" attached is its own pedigree, in some ways.

You don't take someone first overall because you're thinking about dealing a few months later

I think it's clearly a boost to his value to have gone 1-1 and since it was a thinner draft maybe he's not a "true" 1-1, but Arizona saw something they loved, most of all, in June. Now it's December of the same year
