I still just don't see where there's room. I get that they're more incentivized now than they were a week ago, but that infield is full

Eaton or Turner leading off in DC?
Jeff Sullivan
9:28
I'll guess Eaton on account of his greater experience
Seems like a Dusty thing
Tits Mcgee
9:28
Does martes, reed, cameron, Kemp sound right for Quintana?
Jeff Sullivan
9:28
Nope, too light

9:29
If Jansen signs elsewhere, Does Grant Dayton project as a possible closer in LA, or do they look elsewhere?
Jeff Sullivan
9:29
They look elsewhere. Maybe Robertson, maybe Colome, maybe they wait a few months to see if Doolittle is healthy

9:30
If you were a GM of a contending team, would you rather buy low and trade for Alex Cobb or buy high and acquire Danny Duffy?
Jeff Sullivan
9:30
I would feel far more certain about Duffy being able to help my team win in 2017

Let's say you convinced the angels to trade you trout, but you also had to take on Pujols and both contracts fully. What kind of package would you have to give up in return?
Jeff Sullivan
9:32
Running some quick numbers here: Trout has something like $180-200 million in surplus value. Pujols is in the red by like $125 million. So you'd still be looking at like $60-70 million of positive value, leaving aside luxury-tax concerns, which I assume I am to ignore in this hypothetical
9:33
You're not trading a Chris Sale package, but something similar to the Eaton exchange would fit here
Two high-quality prospects, and some extra stuff

9:33
What do you think of the Fowler deal?
Jeff Sullivan
9:34
It surprised me. Now that we sort of understand his defense is better than we thought, it's not horrible or anything. And this way the Cardinals don't have to give up any young players. They're going to need those young players because the core continues to age. I think it's a known overpay, but they didn't want to be left without a center fielder

I love you, Jeff.

What does a realistic haul from the Cubs look like for the Rays' Archer?
Jeff Sullivan
9:36
The Rays would probably insist the package begin with Javier Baez
Put him with Eloy Jimenez and you would be most of the way there
The Average Sports Fan
9:37
If the Rockies are to be an actual contender, what do they need to do?
Jeff Sullivan
9:37
Assemble a bullpen
And at least like swap Desmond and Gonzalez as OF and 1B
But the bullpen is a big weakness

9:37
What are the Tigers waiting for?
Jeff Sullivan
9:38
There's not a whole lot for them to do. They can't and won't just dump Cabrera. They keep on marketing Martinez but obviously there have been a number of available outfielders. Not enough teams in there for Kinsler and they don't want to sell him and not get enough back
9:39
The Tigers are a little bit trapped. I think this has been understood
Erik
9:39
What are the odds that one or both of Encarnacion/Bautista ends up getting Fowler'd and crawls back the the Blue Jays on an under-market one year deal?
Jeff Sullivan
9:39
I don't see both, but I can see one settling for a year or two. Probably Bautista
Ian Encarnacion
9:40
Wouldnt it be nice if the Tampa Rays just decided, you know what we have the pitching, for one year we are going to acquire bats and go for it. and they go to the Mets and take on Bruce, Granderson, and Duda to add 80 Homeruns to their lineup. They would likely just need to take on the one year salaries and trade a middle reliever.
Jeff Sullivan
9:41
And then the Mets would be like, can we have two of those back

9:41
The Sale and Eaton trades were fun. Who is the next big name traded?
Jeff Sullivan
9:41
David Robertson count?
9:42
That one feels like it's coming quick
Tacoby Bellsbury
9:42
Orioles have to at least entertain idea of trading Zach Britton, right? What sort of package might he command?
Jeff Sullivan
9:42
I'm sure they have it in mind, but more realistically, I'd think they'll see what they have and then maybe think about moving him in July if the season isn't going so well. He's not going to really lose any value between now and then
Dougie
9:43
Would you say that the Fowler signing makes another big move more or less likely for the Cardinals?
Jeff Sullivan
9:43
I don't see a necessity
