Why does it seem like everybody on the internet is a Mariners fan? I've never met one in real life but every baseball forum/website is nothing but Mariners fans
Jeff Sullivan
10:17
Dave used to blog about the Mariners, and I used to blog about the Mariners, and so even though we no longer blog about the Mariners, we have this legacy audience that's probably over-represented
Sterling Mallory Chris Archer

Josh Donaldson is back today. Considering the calf issue completely healed, how awesome is he going to be?
Jeff Sullivan
10:18
He's going to be very awesome, but aging players don't become *less* prone to getting hurt

How do you fix Cutch? Is a change of scenery necessary? However, trading at his lowest value hurts.
Jeff Sullivan
10:18
Change of scenery is no cure for diminished skills
Cody
10:18
Do you think the Brewers should call up Brinson to re-energize the team?
Jeff Sullivan
10:18
Energy is not their problem
10:19
The Brewers shouldn't make any decisions right now based on trying to hang in the race in 2017

Is there an easy way to find games that meet certain criteria to see how often they've happened in history? I'm thinking of the Mariners loss last Friday where the only hit they had was a triple and that seems like it'd be a rare occurance.
Jeff Sullivan
10:19
That's what the Play Index is for!
It's the single best tool on the internet for baseball dorks

Do you think the White Sox have something with Leury Garcia? 5 defensive runs saved in CF, and he's running a 125 wRC+ with substantially improved contact rates.
Jeff Sullivan
10:22
I'm afraid not. Lots of grounders and the exit-velocity stuff makes his power seem like a total mirage
Now, I don't think he's the worst hitter in baseball anymore, based on the fact that he's hitting the ball more often, but he's a utility type now

Hit me with your current favourite Mike Trout stat or fact.
Jeff Sullivan
10:23
Do you know how long it would take me to sort through all of them
This is an impossible live-chat question
My favorite Mike Trout fact would have something to do with the fact that Mike Trout simply exists as he does

Spent last night going down memory lane on Leone for third. Jeff Sullivan the writer for Fangraphs is a much better writer and analyst than Jeff Sullivan the amateur blogger. Hopefully no offense taken.
Jeff Sullivan
10:23
oh god zero offense at all
Never read what you used to write
10:24
Everything that's older than a year or so is embarrassing
And this is a rolling year
Andrew
10:24
What do you expect sonny gray to do ros?
Jeff Sullivan
10:24
Pitch well

10:25
Has Folty made any strides this year you think?
Jeff Sullivan
10:25
None that I care about
Barry O
10:26
Is Justin Bour for real or a mirage?
Jeff Sullivan
10:26
He's a very strong hitter. Now he's showing a little bit of progress against southpaws. Flawed, but pretty good
Terry's Sarape
10:29
Which unsung player(s) had the best 2-3 year run - where they acquired most of their WAR in a very short span and then essentially disappeared (statistically, anyway)?
Jeff Sullivan
10:29
This is hasty but I wonder if we're going to think about Odubel Herrera like this down the line
SamS18
10:30
Jeff, what do you think is the solution to the Red Sox third base problem?
Jeff Sullivan
10:30
The Devers possibility has already been floated
10:31
Short of that, I wonder if there could be an actual fit with Zack Cozart. It would require someone to change positions on the fly, but he's a useful player who would be affordable, and he doesn't have a big market

Is Alex Gordon completely done as a hitter? Going back to your aging curve question, I would have thought he would age quite gracefully given his infamously spartan lifestyle and workout regimen...but we are past the point of small sample sizes now aren't we? every single underlying metric is really bad for his hitting. defense still looks elite but what the hell happened here
Jeff Sullivan
10:32
I'm with you, this is bizarre. I also thought he was a safe bet to age well and instead he's completely unraveled
Good lessons in there as well, just like with Cruz
The one positive thing is that Gordon is back to making contact, undoing last year's drop. But his actual contact has sucked
10:33
Every single contact-quality metric is down. If I had to guess at Gordon's rest-of-season wRC+, I'd say...80 or 85
