Good Monday, chatters! Thanks for your patience on the shortly delayed start; will still give y'all a full hour here -- which, given the state of the queue currently, should not be a problem. So let's hit it!!

Odds Kevin Gausman gets a start this week?
Brent Hershey
12:15
I'm going 75/25 that he starts. I feel decent about the way the Jays have talked about it, basically giving him "off" until the weekend. My hunch is that he takes one of those weekend dates in SEA and am setting my own lineups that way.

Pick one for this week...Logan Allen, Ben Lively or James Paxton.....thank you!
Brent Hershey
12:17
Our numbers say Paxton by a bunch. Allen v PIT, though, is a good #2.

4x4 AL keeper only for next year.. Santos or munoz  Grayson or Baz..waters or E duran  K carpenter or J duran. Thank you
Brent Hershey

Muñoz, Grayson, E Duran, J Duran

I'm in an AL only 5x5 dynasty league with 7 minor leaguers at a salary of $2. I haven't activated Tyler Soderstrom yet as I wanted your opinion if he should replace catcher Alejandro Kirk ($9) , Brandon Belt ($4) or Ryan Mountcastle (in final year)?
Brent Hershey
12:19
If your ONLY consideration is long-term, then I'd go Belt. If you have to weigh in this year, I'd have him replace Kirk.

thanks, as always, for the chat.  I know I can simply look at the projected ROS on your site, but I was hoping for your opinion on George Springer...is he at his new normal (less bb%, more K, dwindling power?) , or do you expect him to become more of what he has been for his career.   Wondering if age/injuries have made him start to decline now...
Brent Hershey
12:25
I'm actually somewhat encouraged here - take out some randomness, and plate skills are holding up fine. Sure, a couple ticks less of walks, but Ks are fairly steady over the past two seasons. He IS 33 years old, but so far avoided big injuries over that span. Taking more advantage of running game this year. I don't see signs of a big cliff coming.

Hi Brent, a few questions for you as we gear up for the stretch run in our league (deep, 16-team H2H with keepers; playoffs about a month away):

What are your thoughts on the potential impact of the following ROS, if any for latter two to three? Tyler Soderstrom, Zack Gelof, Matt Mervis, Noelvi Marte, Heston Kjerstad.

Mike Ford or Ryan O’Hearn ROS?

Recently lost Esteury Ruiz to injury, a pretty significant blow to my SB production. Can you rank the following ROS? Jose Caballero, Brenton Doyle, Travis Jankowski, Joey Wiemer, Zack Gelof, David Hamilton, Samad Taylor.

Thanks!!
Brent Hershey
12:30
Mervis is the standout for me in that first question. Think he gets the call at some point and his MLB experience gives him the upper hand in succeeding/having some sort of impact. Probably lean Gelof second of that group; has a speed element that broadens his appeal (as long as he's getting everyday playing time). Don't think Marte/Kjerstad play enough to make a difference for you.

O'Hearn over Ford

For SB only, Jankowski, Caballero and Doyle seem like best short-term solutions.

Stanton or Kiriloff the rest of the way?
Brent Hershey
12:30
Kirilloff, unless HR are a big priority and you can take a potential BA hit

Hey Brent,I have a large amount of FAAB money left and am wondering if there is any word on a return this season of Walker Buehler or Rhys Hoskins? Or should I use the money for small fixes to my roster?
Brent Hershey
12:33
I'd be skeptical that saving FAAB for either of those players  would be a prudent move. Both coming back from major injury, neither a sure-thing to make it into 2023 games ... and if/when they do, can't imagine they will cost much. I'd fix up your roster now.

12:34
Thanks for thae chats Brent: Love 'em: Is Endy Rodriguez, rookie catcher for the Pirates,  worth adding in a very, very deep al/nl league?
Brent Hershey
12:34
Yes, though curious how they will use him. A bit down after a breakout 2022, but potential multi-position eligibility later on could be nice if he hits. PIT likely will give him that chance.

12:36
In 5x5 mixed league drop Sheehan for returning Edward Cabrera?
Brent Hershey
12:36
Not this week ... I'd prefer to wait longer on this to get another Sheehan start and see where Cabrera is at. If you HAVE to make the move now, I'd probably lean keeping Sheehan.

Rizzo has been terrible, Vaughn disappointing, Kirilloff has been pretty mediocre and sits too often against left handers, and not sure if Torkelson is turning a corner. How would you rank them for ROS and also in Dynasty?
Brent Hershey
12:40
ROS: Tork, Rizzo, Kirilloff, Vaughn
-Wonder if Rizzo's recent swoon isn't health-related (the Tatis run-in) that could get better. And this rank is hoping Tork turns the corner -- at the very least, feel like DET is going to give him that chance in the 2H
Dyn: Tork, Kirilloff, Vaughn, Rizzo
-Still feel like Kirilloff could improve to an everyday guy, but might not be until 2024

12:40
Are you a Kerry Carpenter believer?
Brent Hershey
12:40
In the raw power (HR) and strikeouts (low BA) profile, yes.
Rick
12:43
Assuming Story is healthy, what are the chances he ends up at 2B instead of SS for the RedSox? I think their original plan was for Mondesi to be the shortstop, but who knows if he ever comes back.
Brent Hershey
12:43
To me, all depends on just how healthy/strong they feel his arm is when he's ready to play. Seems like the Sox have a bigger need at SS right now ... but if they are primarily trying to get him bat in the lineup as soon as possible, maybe just plugging him in at 2B is better (with thoughts of maybe SS next season). Don't have a solid answer for you, sorry.

12:44
Is Bieber a drop in redraft mixed leagues now that he’ll be out till mid August?
Brent Hershey
12:44
That one's on the cusp for me. I held on in a 15-tm redraft, but may well cut the cord if I need the space in the next week or so. What we know now; either choice is a valid one IMO.
Rick
12:48
How would you rank these young catchers for a dynasty league?  Ruiz, O'Hoppe, Rodriguez, and Naylor. I imagine Ruiz is the safest and I think he has a bit more upside than he has shown so far, but do any stand out? Thanks
Brent Hershey
12:48
Ruiz is the safest, yes ... primarily b/c of the track record so far. Do think he'll add some more game pop as he matures.

I might, though, put both Naylor and O'Hoppe ahead of him on a straight dynasty list (no consideration for 2023). O'Hoppe gets raves for makeup and adjustments, surprising power. Naylor a superior athlete who I think will develop a power/speed combination on the hitting side. Endy is fourth in this group for me.

Lightning round-Which American league minor league should I select for best career regardless of when they come up between Jonatan Clase ss Seattle, Roman Anthony OF Boston or Texas ss-Sebastian Walcott? I've seen all as high as top 50 prospects on various recent prospect lists. Thanks
Brent Hershey

Should we expect Jason Adam to see more saves this year or is he droppable? Fairbanks looks bad.
Brent Hershey
12:49
Given Fairbanks' injury history, I'd hold Adam if I could

What happens to Corey Julks when Yordan gets back? He's seemingly been much better than the other OF competition.
Brent Hershey
12:50
Seems like a Dusty guy, which bodes well. Team could well use an OF to try and fetch pitching in a trade, too

Deep NL only, is it time to cut bait on Rodolfo Castro? Has he likely run out of opportunity with the Pirates?
Brent Hershey
12:50
Given PIT's recent moves, yes.

Mornin' Brent...Josh Donaldson is very puzzling. With a barrel of 21% & an incredible Hit rate of 7% (yep, seven), what might we expect from the late 30s X-basher in the 2nd half?
