Greets, chatters! Back at it on this post-ASB Friday, ready to get after it for the rest of the season. Great to have some questions in the queue; but plenty of room if you still want to get in. Let's get going ...

Have Adley in 15t mixed, 4x4 keeper league in last year of contract for $22. Will be coming off IL soon. I have since picked up Caratini and Jeffers. They can be kept @$5 for next year. Caratini who has really settled in as catchers do will have dual position eligibility in 2026. Do I add Adley and cut one of these guys, cut who? In 3rd place today.

I still view Caratini as not having much keeper or 2026 value. Feel like yes, you ride him where you can this year, but think we'll look back on Yainer Diaz's season in a couple years and just see 2025 as a developmental year. BUT ... I know that's not your question, directly.

I'm admittedly stubborn and feel like Adley still has the tools to produce, and feel like he could turn it back on at any point. But in your situation, where he's getting thrown back after the season (I'm assuming if you drop, and someone else picks up, that contract stays with him) AND you have Caratini producing now—yes, I can see the Adley drop and just roll with the current two. Might take some extra thinking if Adley's contract gets reset after you drop him. If you keep, I'd still probably cut Caratini — Diaz could well 'find it' in the second half, too.

hi Brent, at what point I should stop being patient and drop Gallen (on my bench for about half of the season). He is « only » costing me a spot, and free agents are pretty slim (not close to Gallen potential at the draft in March). Should I wait for Gallen to be traded? A couple of 2nd starts? Any other criteria? Alternative are injured SP on the comeback trail (javier, gray, manoah, etc.), minor leaguers, or maginals (d daniel, montas, dunning, cantillo). Thank you for taking my question
Brent Hershey
12:11
If he's on your bench right now, I think it's only a replacement situation for a FA whom you feel is better. Not sure I'd drop for any of the minor leaguers, but might for an injured vet coming back. The inconsistency — fact that Gallen HAS had a couple good starts mixed in — makes this decision extra tricky. But I likely wouldn't factor in March draft cost too much at this point. Get your team the best it can be for the stretch.

Hi Brent- do you think ryan bergert on sd has any value this year or future in NL only league?
Brent Hershey
12:14
A bit, perhaps in an NL-only—but skills so far say he's over his head as K-BB as well as BPV is not great. Maybe his run of good fortune continues this year, but right now he'd not be a keeper league consideration for me.

Welcome to the 2nd half Brent! 10 team NL 5x5 - I will have to move a pitcher or two to activate Manaea and, later N Cortes. I collected some good potential closers/good numbers middle relievers: L Bachar, P Maton, B Lord, M Strahm... Which of this group looks like the best bets for the ROS? right now, I am leaning toward waiving Bachar for Manaea.
Brent Hershey
12:15
Yes, that would be my choice presently, and Lord #2 (just don't see him gaining value in that bullpen even if they find a taker for Finnegan.).

12:18
Chance of L Robert in Philadelphia? SD? Mets? Where do you see him? And will the Rockies get into the hot stove league, or will they continue to microwave and simmer?
Brent Hershey
12:18
Those are three strong possibilities for Robert, though I'd have to think for PHI they are going to be looking first for RPs. As essentially a rental, the price likely can't be high given his 2025 performance.

Have to think COL gets involved ... but we've thought that in the past, also. Wouldn't be surprised at anything from the Rocks at this point.

how optimistic should we be in NL only?  Thx!
Brent Hershey
12:20
Context matters -- and would seem given the state of SP that you'd be good to take a chance in an NL-only. First 2 outings didn't look great, though -- but there's been some others who had a rough couple first starts back from injury this year who then turned it back around (Eury Perez, for one; and maybe Montas now). If you have the luxury of waiting to see a good start out of him in a mixed league, that's probably how I'd play it there. Vet, wide arsenal, no more IP restrictions. Could be a nice add.

Trevor Rofers nice had a great prospect forecast. He is just 27, but seems older than that. His string of decent outings against mediocre teams… has he figured it out, or level of competition?
Brent Hershey
12:24
Yeah, kinda wonder if he's figured it out. Was pretty much a mess late last season, and with a pedigree like you mentioned, and with a new team, it's not far-fetched. Could be worth a shot

Good afternoon Brent!

In an 12-team, H2H points league and not lucky with pitchers lining up this weekend. How would you rank the following for 1 weekend start?

Lauer
Bradley
Morton
Berrios
Lodolo
T Rogers

Thanks and I appreciate all your help and providing these chats!!
Brent Hershey
12:28
Lauer <big gap> Bradley, Lodolo <big gap>  Rogers, Berrios, Morton

Just used our SP ratings for that, which is the subject of a free article today on the site: https://www.baseballhq.com/articles/research/gms-office/re-validating-...

Thanks for the chat, Brent. 12 team mixed, need to drop a closer to activate Glasgow. Jansen, Bednar, Iglesias or
Brent Hershey
12:30
Hmm .. probably Bednar, who would seem the most likely to get dealt AND no longer have a CL job. Though Iglesias could also not be closing many games the rest of the season, too.

Do you think there's much of a chance for Sandy Alcantara to turn it around this year?
Brent Hershey
12:33
Skills have been a LITTLE better in June and July ...  but not enough to make me say "yes" here. Could alter my tune a big IF he gets dealt to a pitching-smart org who is in contention (though, really, MIA is doing a fair job with young SP as-is).

Hi Brent. In a 12-team, 5X5 weekly H2H league, would you trade Robert Suarez for Dylan Cease? I have Chapman, Bednar, and Vest in addition to Suarez, but my starting pitching is also strong and deep (Brown, Valdez, Webb, Rodon, Sanchez, Luzardo, Baz, Eury Perez, Ragans, Bieber). It basically comes down to whether to expect more positive regression from Cease or negative regression from Suarez. Thoughts?
Brent Hershey
12:35
I think it's more likely that Suarez has a better ROS than Cease right now. So I'd hold.

Looking at long-term value. How would you rank Simpson, Scott II, and minor  leaguer Crawford?
Brent Hershey
12:38
In the order you have them. We have a peek at what Simpson and Scott II are in the majors. Simpson's SB edge is bigger than Scott's more all-around game (has more pop than Simpson, for instance). As far as Justin Crawford, there are enough scouts who question whether his approach will work in the majors (very little pop; hits ball hard but predominately on the ground) that he's a more distant 3d for me at the moment. Type of player I'd want to see first how he handles MLB pitching before going too far out on a limb with his future.

12:42
Hate to make assumptions with the Orioles, but they have to trade O'Hearn and give Mayo full time 1B role, right? If that happens, what do you expect from Mayo ros and long-term?
Brent Hershey
12:42
Careful with assumptions :-) . But yes, that seems fairly obvious; although my take is probably that O'Hearn trade is more likely to happen than Mayo just sliding over into the full time 1B when that happens. I've liked what I've seen from Mayo in the minors—def a COR-IF slugger type with lotsa Ks—but BAL also doesn't have a great track record of just playing these young guys and letting them adjust in MLB. Maybe they're more apt to do that now, out of the WC race. That would be the hope. IF so, Mayo is a HR-centric cornerman with not so hot BAs due to a big K rate.

12-team NL-only 4x4.  I'm looking for Austin Riley replacements and the pickings are slim.  By CDG, the choices are Miguel Rojas, Jose Fermin, and Jon Berti, and then a whole bunch of guys slated to earn $1 or less, like Kyle Farmer, Eric Wagaman, Javier Sanoja, Nacho Alvarez, etc.  I'm thinking Rojas is a good short-term play while Muncy is on the shelf.  But are there reasons to elevate one of the other players on this list ahead of him?  How much upside does Fermin have, currently in a platoon?
Brent Hershey
12:45
Yeah, probably Rojas is best in this case, though Wagaman or Alvarez (natural Riley replacement at least to start) would also be easy to justify. Rojas could have some OK R/RBI numbers due to good lineup. Just not quite sold on Fermin given the looks STL has said they need to give some others on that team. He feels like a UT guy that they can fill in at several spots at his "peak".
Brent Hershey

Well; cleaned out the queue this time, so going to shut it down. We'll be back on Monday again — thanks for all who participated. Have a great weekend!
