Happy Monday, chatters! Thx for the questions in the queue already; keep em coming and I'll get to as many as I can. Should be a great week with Deadline approaching ... but no, I don't know what's a-gonna happen ... Which always makes it fun! Let's dive in ...

Another happy Monday, Brent!

I have a top 4 team in my H2H (roto) dynasty league with the following offensive categories: AVG/OBP/SLG/R/RBI/SB.

I have only one current weak spot at catcher, as I'm starting Ben Rice (doesn't play everyday and underlying metrics haven't matched surface stats) and awaiting Basallo's (eventual?) call-up.

Other guys being shopped in the league include Francisco Alvarez, Adley Rutschman, and Gabriel Moreno. Alvarez has started hitting ... do you see him as a potential upgrade?

Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:05
Yes, that would be my pick for rest of season (and should be a good dynasty option as well). Some interesting things on Rice's profile, but more of a long-term play rather than a this-year thing.

4x4 AL only keeper league ROS . 1.Joc is back will he break out of slump?2. Brooks Baldwin break out?3 Rutschman gonna break out 4,biggest blockbuster deadline trade you see coming that we dont? Thank you Brent!

  1. Terrible "luck" factors before his injury; so I'd lean 'yes' at this point. Picked him up myself in one spot last night.
  2. Baldwin is a tough call, but some good things there, Sox seems to like him enough to play him when healthy, and if they move any vets in next few days (Robert/Tachman, etc), his prospects improve for ROS.
  3. Wouldn't count on it for this year
  4. How about a closer getting moved that no one expects? That's about all I got :-)

Hi Brent,

16 team H2H points league. $430 cap, 40 player roster - 23 active & 17 bench. Deep league. We start 5 SPs.

Will have 3 double starts this week: Valdez, Cabrera & Boyd. I plan to start Bibee vs MIN(+1.9 game score). Normally I would choose Woo as my 5th SP, however, despite his good rating @ATH (+1.3), his only prior game @ATH was a disaster. That ballpark is a menace to pitchers. The best option is Gavin Williams (+0.u4) vs MIN. That seems the safer play and Williams has been pitching well of late.

Your thoughts/opinion?

Thanks again for answering my question.
Brent Hershey
12:10
I'm still having a hard time buying into Gavin Williams, esp over Woo. Hear you on the park factor, but Woo so much better skilled. Think I cross my fingers and go talent (and MU scores) here.

Good afternoon Brent! Always appreciate connecting with you and the insight you provide.

In a 12-team redraft H2H points league and looking for some pop to add to my SS position. I have Swanson and Story but thinking about using Josh H Smith this week. The weekly rankings are not great for BOS and TEX; however, TEX is facing mostly RHP this week and that bodes well for Smith.

How would you rank them in order for this week and ROS?
Brent Hershey
12:13
This week: Story, Smith, Swanson
ROS: Story, Swanson, Smith

Story just seems rejuvenated this year; Swanson's also on a great team though yes, a bit of a buzzsaw week by the numbers. Good luck!

lost Roupp and grant Holmes  this weekend, competitive in ratios, wins and Ks. Please rank ROS; ben brown, clay Holmes, deSclafani, Nolan McLean, taillon,

Hi Brent. Assuming no injuries, which pitcher do you think will pitch more innings ROS: Shane Baz or Eury Pérez? Baz pitched 118 2/3 innings last year, and he’s at 119 this year. Pérez didn’t pitch last year, pitched 128 innings in 2023, and has pitched 66 2/3 innings so far this year.
Brent Hershey
12:18
Perez - TJS, yes, but Baz with a longer injury history. Tough tho, of course because both teams out of it and have incentive to look to the future. But I'll bet MIA tries to get Eury back to 120-130 IP overall.

I think the Snakes need to get pitching back on the Suarez front. Cubs, Phillies, Reds I think are most probable based upon reports. I think it’s the Cubs that could offer the bump help the snakes need the most.
Is Brown who might be a good closer, Wicks, and say one of either Cassie or Alcantara  a balanced offer or too little or too much for one side.
Brent Hershey
12:23
That seems excessive for the Cubs given it's a two-month rental, and I don't see them parting with Brown in a trade like this. A hitting prospect, maybe?

Good Afternoon Brent, 5X5 16 team redraft. What exactly is a Warming Bernabel and do you think the Rockies will leave him at 3B full time the rest of the year?
Brent Hershey
12:26
Always dangerous to try and anticipate what the Rockies might do. Bernabel right now just a middling corner IF bat; do not think he's worthy of chasing to add at this point.

12 team mixed h2h keeper...please rank these dudes for 2026+.  B Rice, Stoderstrom, M Busch. Also, your thoughts on Mayo's future? Thanx.
Brent Hershey
12:29
Busch, Soderstrom, Rice. Could flip the first two if you're looking more for power ceiling and can live with some BA risk. Rice is fine, also ... just his position and role for 2026+ is a bit murkier in my opinion.

Mayo continues to be interesting, but really needs BAL front office to commit to playing him, so they see what they have. Maybe if they move O'Hearn and/or Mountcastle here that will happen, but no guarantees. Right now would probably slot him as 3d or 4th on that list above.

12:31
With Arenado now being just a middle of the road hitter, how would you rank him ROS with Lewis, Shaw, Jung, and House? Would you rank him last in a Dynasty League?
Brent Hershey
12:31
Last question first - yes.
ROS: Lewis, Jung, Shaw, Arenado, House, though could also see where the last two are flipped in order. Point being ... Arenado has taken a fall, yes.

Hi Brent! I had expected a flurry of trades by now but it hasn't happened. Do you think a host of deals will happen today or will everyone wait until the 31st?
Brent Hershey
12:33
My bet is that folks will wait. Deadlines work :-) . The seller's market is a part of this, also -- if you have a lockdown closer, you ask for the moon now, and see what comes in at the 11th hour.

Is it crazy to start Burns vs LAD today? The HQ rating is great but I fear the worst. Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:37
Love the fact that many are using the SP ratings! Not without risk, but I'm starting him where it's a weekly format, so I get the two starts. If it's just a one-off, maybe I sit? BUT ... definitely has shown that the Ks are for real. So no, not crazy to start Burns.

Hi Brent - I have Walter and Bubic in three leagues so desperate for ams.  Cecconi is top five in Daily Matchups today but what about ROS?
Brent Hershey
12:38
A fan of Cecconi changes, and the CLE pitching dev group overall. Not a blind start every week, but should have some good utility for the rest of the season.

NL 10 team 5x5. I grabbed Maton & Lord - thinking they might become the closers. Maton still might but Lord is in the rotation - should I find a way to waive him before tonight's game against Houston or should I wait and see? His numbers aren't horrible but I don't trust him.

Also - what do you think happens with Nestor Cortes in Milwaukee?
Brent Hershey
12:43
I never quite saw the Lord-as-closer theory. Maybe I'm wrong, but doesn't really pass the CL eye test for me; feel it's pretty unlikely he takes over that job if/when Finnegan gets moved. Not the worst thing to wait, but if you have better options, doubt that you'll feel burned if you drop him.

Sounds like MIL going 6-man for the moment, so Cortes is a part of that. That arrangement rarely has a long shelf life, but anyone's guess as to how it plays out. A fan of Cortes' overall profile; team context is a good one.

12:46
Is there a scenario where Luis Robert Jr doesn’t get dealt this year and remains on the White Sox? I don’t necessarily hate that for his stolen base total but the people want to see what might happen if he lands on a contender.
Brent Hershey
12:46
Yes, that could absolutely happen. Teams often make choices that defy our "logic" (Rockies every year at deadline; Nats with Finnegan last year, etc). Given the team context and how 2025 has gone so far for Robert, I'm not sure I'd be thrilled from a fantasy context should he stay. But yes, could still happen.

Happy Monday, Brent. Which two do like best for SOLDs rest of season: Stewart, Treinen, B. King, A. Bender, Uceta, and Yates?
Brent Hershey
12:48
Treinen and Yates. Good teams always rule this question, and the fact that LA doesn't have a set closer (as of the moment) doesn't matter as much in a SOLDs context.

Hi Brent, which 2 of these bats do you like in shallow league where we score the additional stats of SLG, OBP, and batter Ks: Laureano, J. Sanchez, Baty, Keith, Benintendi. That is my order.    Bonus question: what are your 2 or 3 go-to metrics when scouring the waiver wire?
Brent Hershey
12:52
Laureano and Sanchez, though Benitendi is 3d.

BaseballHQ's xPX metric, along with BABIP and QBaB

Is cam smith destined for the free agent pool in 12 teamers?
Brent Hershey
12:54
Having a rough stretch, but don't think I'd drop just yet. Monitor, though -- we're at the point where these are the most games he's played at any point in one season in his career. If this continues for another couple of weeks, I wonder about fatigue and I'd consider moving on  in 12-teamers at least. Super impressed by his AB quality all season long, though.
