Hey all! Happy Monday ... and Happy July 4 weekend! Lots to get to, including the more-or-less halfway point and all the goods that go with it. Fantasy on the mind; questions in the queue ... let's roll!

Happy 4th Brent, 5X5 redraft. Will Jason Heywood & David Peralta continue to play in the 2nd half or will their playing time evaporate?
Brent Hershey
12:06
In a redraft, I think you hold each for now -- not sure there's a big gain to dropping these guys early at the moment. Do feel like would make sense if LA wanted to, to upgrade in the outfield, but hard to say with payroll complications (including offseason Shohei chase) what their deadline plans will be.

NL 10 team 5x5: would you rather have B Doyle, A Thomas or J Young (1b) ROS? ( I have the 1st two - would have to waive one for Young — I need HRs.
Brent Hershey
12:08
Just per player, feel like Thomas ahead of the other two, who are a closer #2 and #3. Not sure I see a bunch of HR options here. Young just has so much to prove; could easily be a Mervis placeholder.

Thoughts on K Allard ROS? He’s  on the FAAB list tonight. So is the suddenly interesting Manaea🤔🤔
Brent Hershey
12:11
Grabbed Allard a couple places in FAAB runs last night. Watched that first start -- and realize MIN is toast vLHP -- but looked totally different than the last time we saw him. Filled up the zone, got sw/misses, is only 25 and ATL has seemed to clear space/prefer him to Shuster and AJ S-S. Which I agree with. Potential here for post-hype 2H breakout IMO.

Drew waters seems to be figuring it out? your thoughts please, thank you
Brent Hershey
12:16
Had a good week and on my watchlist. Love it that his PT has steadily increased week to week since his activation -- and most importantly, he's played every day since Isbel returned, which I thought might cut into his. Seems like an 2021 Adolis Garcia-light package right now -- power/speed combo with a lot of Ks and thus BA downside. Don't think he can sustain .250 BA right now ... but interested in his counting stats if continues to claim regular OF time.

Brett,

Happy 4th! I find myself falling in love with Maikel Garcia more and more every day. Two quick questions related to him:

1) He needs 1 more start at 2B in my league to get eligibility there (5). Do you think he gets it?

2) What's the likelihood of a 15 HR/40 SB season sometime within the next 3 years?

You're the best!
Brent Hershey
12:19
Thanks, Brett ... more Royals!

1) Might be tricky if it needs to be a GS vs. just an appearance; last start there was 5/22 and he's pretty much established his spot as their starting 3B.

2) I think that's entirely possible in a peak season; feel like KC is a good spot for him

Hope everyone's having a great holiday weekend!!

Brent .. C. Javier and J. Urias (my "co-aces") are killing me lately in my H2H dynasty league. Think they pull their heads out of the backsides in time for the 2nd half? =)
Brent Hershey
12:20
Yes, I think both will rebound some ... though getting to "co-ace" level might be a stretch

What do you expect for Willy Adames ROS?
Brent Hershey
12:23
We have him (w/ FT AB) at around 235 / 13 / 40 the rest of the way ... def a disappointment when compared to pre-season expectations

Hello Brent. Auction AL only 5x5 Keeper League (began as 4x4). Started in 1988, this is our 35th year (excluding 2020). Players at the end of the Auction and FAP transactions go for $1 and can be signed for up to three years. I'm always looking for the next "Roy Halladay". Signed for $1 in '01, and you know the kind of years he had in '02 and '03. I need your crystal ball outlook for 2024 & 2025. Singer, Lynch, Sears, Manning, Paddock, Crawford, Lorenzen and Waldichuk are either on my team, reserve or FAP. Can you see any promise in any of these guys for '24 and '25? (even if they don't come close to what Halladay did).
Brent Hershey
12:24
I like Lynch, Crawford, Sears and Singer the best out of that group; roughly in that order. Good luck!

12:27
Would you drop Taj Bradley for Canning, Bibee or Woo if you only had six transactions left for the season?
Brent Hershey
12:27
Probably not; Bibee might be the closest but think I'd still prefer Bradley. Part of it is trusting TAM as well as the win-potential gap, but also his skills and pedigree are a small tick above the others. But also acknowledge his struggles recently; I've not had him anywhere but was still surprised to see his YTD ERA after his last start.

12:28
Are you doing a midseason top prospects list? If so, when?
Brent Hershey
12:28
Yep! BHQ's Top 50 update is scheduled for the All Star break next week!
Adam
12:33
BHQ projects Kyle Bradish for just 3 more wins ROS. That seems awfully light, given how well he has pitched for the last two months and the quality of the Orioles offense. Would you think 6-7 wins ROS is a realistic expectation for him?
Brent Hershey
12:33
Yeah, would take the over on that wins projection for the reasons you state. BUT ... good spot to remind all that if there are any part of BHQ's pitcher projections (or really, ANY proj system) to take lighter than others, it has to be pitcher wins. Just so fickle for a myriad of reasons. Pick good skilled pitchers, sprinkle in some team context ... that's about all you can do.

12:35
With a couple of options in our AL only pool, I need to cut at least one bum, O'Hearn or Rengifo or both?
Brent Hershey
12:35
Oh, I'm hanging onto O'Hearn for sure. Platoon bat right now, but absolutely mashing via batted-ball data. If he continues to find PT there in BAL (not guaranteed, but looking positive right now), I would not be surprised if we're talking about a post-hype 2H from him in a few months.
Rob
12:36
Is Bieber back?
Brent Hershey
12:36
Not to previous ace levels, no. I'm figuring up and down the rest of the way. We'll get some clunkers and some gems like last outing. Just part of the deal at this point.

12:40
Rockies - what will they do with B Doyle & N Jones? Blackmon is coming back. Rogers may be back. They have always been horrible at playing rookies - what do you predict for these guys ROS?
Brent Hershey
12:40
Think we've started to see it with Jones this past week -- PT was down. Exactly right re: COL and rookies. Actually think Doyle might have a PT edge given his CF ability; Jones is a corner-only player. I'd rather see more of Jones; not sure we will unless there's more COR injuries on the way (which is possible w/ the age of some of their roster). Realize I didn't answer your question ... what I'd do is watch the playing time patterns very closely, and not be afraid to cut bait knowing what we know.
Pedro
12:40
Hi Brent.  Who would you favor ROS:  Severino, Singer, Skubal, Sears?  Thanks in advance
Brent Hershey
12:40
Would like to have this week to evaluate, but if not, I'll take Skull. Best mix of upside and proven MLB success

Happy 4th Brent. I know these are different type players, but in a deep keeper league would you rather have Pena or CJ Abrams at shortstop? Also, assuming the Cardinals go with Winn at short next year, how would you rank him?
Brent Hershey
12:45
In a keeper, I still think Abrams has the skills at some point to be an impact guy (power and speed). A ways to get there, but super young yet. Would prob rank Winn third here, largely b/c we haven't seen him at all in MLB.
Rick
12:46
Westburg or Vargas for MI in a Dynasty League?
Brent Hershey
12:46
Close. Think I'd go Vargas even though I'm a Westburg fan. Would be thrilled to have either in dynasty.
Ron
12:47
Hi Brent,  When does Aranda (TAM) get the call. And does he play every day?
Brent Hershey
12:47
It's Tampa, so ...

a) No idea
b) No (it's Tampa, remember)
Rich
12:48
Do you think Braxton Garrett can continue to thrive with his 90-mph fastball? All of his pitches have pretty low Stuff+ (all under 100), but he seems to mix and locate his pitches well. Would you expect him to continue to pitch to an ERA in the mid-3's or below (his ERA would be in the mid-2's if not for an 11-run blowup against the Braves in May)?
