Long-term, no. This year, maybe ... but once he gets settled in, think he'll come out ahead of many in this rookie SP class (Woo, Olson, M Miller, Sheehan, Allen for starters)

Is Jo Jo Romero worth a bid? He might be the Cardinals closer...
Brent Hershey
12:47
That would surprise me given Gallegos' past and history of good stuff.

Giolito to the bench vs ATL this week in a 15 teamer?
Brent Hershey
12:47
Think so. ATL so scary right now.

Brent, Luis Medina has quietly put up a string of solid starts. Short sample size, or has he turned a corner?  Just 24.  Thanks
Brent Hershey
12:49
Very interested ... as long as you don't need wins. Saw him a bunch in the minors and wasn't sure he could ever fix his walk problem. Athleticism and stuff was there; we're seeing it now. Worth a flyer, methinks.

Hi Brent. Steven Matz has pitched really well over the past month (133 BPV), but BHQ still projects him for negative value ROS. Do you think Matz is worth rostering in a 12-team, 5X5 H2H league, and do you think a mid-3’s ERA ROS is a reasonable expectation given how he’s pitched lately?
Brent Hershey
12:50
Yes, think he's worth rostering in a 12 given the state of pitching. But think we should still be in the 3.75ish ERA range as far as expectation
Tom
12:52
when are we likely to see Mauricio called up?  Is Luciano worth a pick up in a 12 team mixed keeper league ( 7 keepers allowed)?
Brent Hershey
12:52
a) Could well happen this week if a couple of Mets hitters move on
b) Yeah, probably need to take a shot in keeper leagues. I'm a bit lukewarm on whether he'll provide much value in 2023, however.
Tork, Meneses or CES
12:53
10 team keeper league 5x5 roto - who should I target at 1B - Spencer Torkelson, Joey Meneses, or Christian Encarnacion-Strand? All are available on waivers with limited bench space.
Brent Hershey
12:53
Torkelson first, then CES. Better pedigree though certainly opposite park factors. Would not consider Meneses in a 10-tm keeper

Brent- please rank Toglia, Choi, Brent Anderson, Monasterio ROS and for next year?
Brent Hershey
12:54
gonna go with BRIAN Anderson ...
ROS: Choi, Toglia, Anderson, Monasterio
2024: Toglia, Choi, Anderson, Monasterio

rent--

NL only keeper league. Holding Zac Veen assuming (hoping for) full recovery from wrist surgery. Would you keep him, or replace him with L Acuna, Tommy Troy, Cade Horton, Josue De Paula, Jett Williams, all of whom are available? In any case, how confident in full recovery and maybe more power?
Brent Hershey
12:56
Not a huge Veen fan; not convinced he hits enough to maximize that speed. Probably would prefer any of those top three to Veen at this point in a keeper lg

Hello! I've been a happy subscriber for a few years and enjoy deciphering the value in your analytics. Sometimes when I think I get it I realize, maybe not. Your team level hitter ratings has Tampa Bay with a 1.34 rating(red). They are facing German,Rodon,Schmidt,Lorenzen,Olson,Skubal. Tampa is at least average vs RH and away games. Are there any other factors I'm missing?
Brent Hershey
12:57
Let's walk through how we get to that rating for Tampa this week:
  • the -1.34 rating is an average of the ratings of the six SP they're scheduled to face
  • those SP's individual ratings are driven by three components: 1. the SP's own performance over last 30 days, 2. the SP's balance-of-year projection, and 3. the opposing offense (ie the Rays) production in the past 30 days.
And that's where you run into problems: Rays have a 661 OPS in July, after 879-778-740 the previous three months. So they're at least average overall, but much worse than that lately. And that's a big chunk of what's driving the ratings. So there is a bit of circular logic involved... the Rays have a red rating this week in part because they've been a bad offense lately.

Hope this helps! Thanks for subscribing!

Hi Brent!!  Do you think Taillon and Alcantara have finally turned the corner?  Starting to see some good starts out of both.   In a 12 team NL only roto league, I dropped Taillon earlier this year and trying to decide if its worth picking him up again.  Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:59
Think there's that chance, yes. Prefer Sandy if need to choose between the two. Taillon strikes me just as a league-average guy -- which in a NL only, is valuable. He's probably worth a shot at picking up again, esp as CHC playing better.

Hiya pal! NL 10 team 5x5 - I am fighting for the lead. And I am wondering if L Gurriel is done. Possible replacements FAs - J Rojas, Palacios, Canzone (who might take his ABs anyway), Kike, Gary Sanchez.
Or do I just stay the course? The other hitters I can drop (and might have to when others come up) are JD Davis and W Flores if he ever cools down!
Brent Hershey
1:02
L Gurriel - yeah, I'd still prefer him to most of the players listed here, and I don't think he's done. Best underlying power metrics in years; getting BABIP'd a ton. If you're only seeking HR and don't care about BA, then MAYBE G Sanchez ... but that's still a reach for me. Stay the course!

In a 12 team mixed 5x5 league are Cron and Grichuk still useful with the trade to LA? Will either get full time playing time?
Brent Hershey
1:03
I think both will right now, given LAA's team makeup. So yeah, I think they'll be useful

Hi Brent, I am fishing for saves this week.  Would you start C. Hernandez over Ottavino and R. Suarez?
Brent Hershey
1:03
Yep, as stated earlier, think it's more likely that Barlow moves than a Met or Hader
Porcho Villa

Is Santos a priority add if I need saves? Seems like a possible committee but buy skills, not roles?
Brent Hershey
1:04
Yes, he's a priority if Hicks, etc is already gone.

Any signs of a sustainable turnaround from Tim Anderson? On the waiver in my 12-team OBP league and debating a grab-- looking for all-around production and he would be a depth piece / UTIL. Other available options are Santana, Candelario, Vaughn, Siri, Suwinski. Thanks!
Brent Hershey
1:06
Half wonder about a quiet 2-month Santana resurgence in MIL, so might lean there over Anderson (whose OBP as you know is not good). TA's lack of power this year quite concerning, especially given the relative pop and job security of Candelario and Vaughn.

Hi! 10-tm H2H category, unfortunately thinking of next year! Could you rank, and group, these SPs for 2024 … Eury Perez, Peralta, Bobby Miller, Bryce Miller, Skubal, Javier, Maeda, Kyle Wright, Woo, Braxton Garrett, Morton, Bibee. Thanks!
