4x4 AL only ros.. ian seymour or jax lange or wells grant taylor or whitlock gelof or gleybar torres. bonus qustion. who will be boston closer day after trade deadline? Thank you
Brent Hershey
12:04
ROS...
Jax / Wells / Taylor / Gelof
Bonus: I'll say Whitlock, but I'll will be looking hard at the rest of that BOS pen leading up to that week, as I think it's a fair shot that both Chapman and Whitlock get moved. So ... gonna take easy way out and say "the hot hand" for now.

JJ Bleday's production has disappeared in the last 30 days.  Is it a tough luck streak or has the league caught up to him ?
Brent Hershey
12:07
This might be another cop-out ... but I really think it's a little of both. He's better than last year, contact rate has stabilized and that's remained fine. Crazy-low BABIP the past 31 days, and power / quality of contact remained. So ... think he rebounds some in July and Aug, but not to the May heights.
Dave
12:08
(continued). Is it time to drop Bleday in a 10 teamer?
Brent Hershey
12:08
In a 10, perhaps. Should be looking to stream throughout that season, I'd think

Hello good sir! NL 10 team 5x5 is Jason Romano worth a look or too risky? And thoughts on Mason Montgomery for saves or…?
Brent Hershey
12:09
Too risky for Romano; it's still COL after all. MasonMont is worth a shot in an NL-only, but could be bumpy ride. Would not surprise me to have PIT give that a try here at some point.

Hi Brent, Thanks for answering this question. As always, any advice is appreciated.

16 team, H2H points league.

My pitching of late has been little short of disastrous. I can start only 5 SPs. My choices in order of preference are (SP Matchup Score):
Ian Seymour (+1.8) FG has him with Tuesday/Sunday Starts (as does HQs SP matchup) - Sunday +1.3)
Manaea (+1.2)
Woo (+0.7)
C. Scott (+0.6)
Williams (+0.5)

However I also have: (1) Boyd (2 starts) but o.0 overall rating; (2) Valdez (+0.4)

Replace Scott or Williams with Boyd? Valdez?
Brent Hershey
12:12
Personally, if I was going to to against the numbers here, I'd make Manaea the cut (probably for the Boyd 2-step). I'm not sure I've seen enough this year from Manaea.

Greetings!  AL only, 4 category - W, S ERA, Whip.  Looking for SP help.  Please share your ranking for the following for ROS.  Matthews, Jump, Perkins, Bennett, Detmers, Lugo.  Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:14
Bennett / Detmers / Matthews / Jump / Perkins / Lugo

The ATH duo would be higher if Ks were involved; feel like Bennett is a clear #1 even without track record. Matthews could go either way (be ranked higher or lower)

Can I trust Ian Seymour to be a #4 SP?
Brent Hershey
12:14
Yes; like the gains here and think TAM will put him in a good position.

12:20
Good afternoon Brent!  Do you expect Kyle Tucker to rebound during the second half?
Brent Hershey
12:20
Would love to say "of course, track record" ... but a quick dive in here (thanks for asking!) tells a bit of a different story. Contact rate way down -- worst stretch of his career — as is (less pronounced, but still down) HctX, QBaB, xPX , FB% and a bunch other metrics. Maybe it's just skills fluctuation, but this looks like a bit of a different player. Hmmmm.

12:24
Brent!

I'm in a H2H categories dynasty league with AVG/OBP/SG as 3 of the 6 categories (RBI, R, SB are the others).

With that said, for the next 3 seasons, who would you rather roster: Alec Burleson or Kyle Stowers?

Both have 1B/OF elg ...

Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:24
Burleson is the better overall hitter for me. Stowers likely provides more power, but Ks and three-year risk that come with it points to more flame-out potential over that span. The length of that (next three seasons) is important context in that discussion.

I drafted Alejandro Kirk and picked up Endy Rodriguez recently. Now I have to drop one. ROS, the HQ player-rater favors Kirk and it isn't close...do you feel the same way?
Brent Hershey
12:28
I agree, but it's close. Our model is going to assign much more value to Kirk's track record than it is Rodriguez's potential (and spotty past, PT-wise). Also, I wonder if we saw Kirk's career season last year. But Endy's path to regular PT is still a bit up in the air -- Henry Davis, Horwitz (when back) and Ozuna are in his way by various amounts. But should they be? That's the crux. I'd take Kirk, but wouldn't be that surprised if Endy out-earns him ROS. Tough call.

12:29
Had same question re Tucker above.  My trade deadline is almost here.  Would you move Tucker for Carroll in a 5x5?
Brent Hershey
12:29
Yes, I'd prefer Carroll ROS in this case.
3 Lame Lions
12:35
Is this where we are going to be with Vladdy?  What are the chances he rebounds second half?
Brent Hershey
12:35
This one is not a contact issue for sure ... has a career-best (and elite) 86% rate. What's surprising is that BA is not better (and BABIP is stable). But he's not hitting the ball as hard ("B" in the QBaB EV rating after being a straight-A guy in every year prior. HR/F way down ... figure that rebounds some. But has to get it in the air more.

So yes, I think he rebounds ... but will he return to previous levels by "going off" for a few weeks? I have my doubts.

Pick 1 closer for this week only in 12tm roto: Kenley Jensen, Kirby Yates, Tyler Wells
Brent Hershey
12:35
Wells.
Mark
12:36
Lance McCullers has looked great in his rehab starts. Would you consider taking a look in a 15-team mixed?
Brent Hershey
12:36
Not unless I was really desperate. Astros don't have rotation room right now, and his body sure seems broken, unfortunately.

12:39
What are the chances Franklin Arias or Walker Jenkins gets a call-up before September? How high are you on Arias longterm?
Brent Hershey
12:39
Think we see Jenkins before Arias, just given the arcs and MLB openings of each org. MIN could slot him in easier than it seems like BOS could. Arias long-term is growing on me (and others) for sure. But could see where he gets a cup of coffee in Sept, they do some roster shuffling in the offseason (I know, I know) and then give him a shot in spring training to win a job.
Broken Bat
12:39
4x4.. competing.. #1. Sanoja or Volpe rest of season? Just need average and steals.
Brent Hershey
12:39
Volpe has the better chance at FT AB.

12:43
any concerns around starting zebby or Perkins this week? And is Buxton a playing time risk given latest boo-boo? Pratt has 8 games this period with Milwaukee do you believe enough to put him in there over Burger at utility? Hope you had great Independence Day weekend!
Brent Hershey
12:43
Zebby - where I have other choices, like going that way. If not, I'm OK with rolling the dice there.
Perkins - @DET not a horrible matchup, but wish we'd get a start where the results reflect the skills. Sometimes that (strong skills) is enough to justify starting him
Buxton - yes, would not be surprised if they IL him or just keep him out through the break.
Would also stick with Burger, probably.
My weekend was very good; thank you. Hope yours was the same!

Hi Brent,
12 team, H2H points.  Is it ok to drop Austin Riley?  I have Caleb Durbin and Colson Montgomery.  Instead of Riley, I could drop Brandon Sproat from a deep SP staff.
Brent Hershey
12:44
Might be time for that in a 12 (drop Riley), yes. Though Sproat might be a better choice, just for right now.
Lou
12:45
NL-only, 12-team, dynasty. Recently acquired Jacob Webb as a free agent. Proably smart to only count on him for a handful of saves, rigth, even if Palencia's elbow barks again. Can't imagine Cubs not adding a veteran closer. Thoughts?
Brent Hershey
12:45
I'd play him right now and worry about the future when it comes. Sure, would SEEM like Chicago would go get ... but teams don't always take the path we think ...
