Happy Monday, chatters! Great to see you all back … props to GM partner Ray for covering this on my vaca week last Monday. Lots to get to here, so let’s jump in!
Dave

Brent, thanks for these chats.  Can you please rank ROS in H2H points redraft- B. Garrett, Whitlock, Woo, Skubal?  Thanks
Brent Hershey
12:01
Dave, I think you've got these in the right order, though if we knew how Skubal returns, he could bump to the top of this list on skills alone. However, see next question on Woo...
David
12:03
Happy Juneteenth, all!

Brent, did you catch Mr. Bryan Woo's last start? Woo hoo! Call me crazy, but I think his ceiling might be higher than Bryce Miller's.

What do you think?
Brent Hershey
12:03
Happy Juneteenth to you also, David!

Not crazy at all ... Woo has been really interesting in the early going; that first ambush by TEX I think moved the spotlight elsewhere. Lotsa season left, but there's a case to be made that Woo is among the best of this rookie pitching crop. Skills have been on par, if not better, than a bunch of the other callups. Ride it for now.

One of the benefits of a 3rd shift job? Getting my Monday question in early! LOL

I'm in "build mode" in my dynasty league and am trying to determine which of my two SS to keep/shop.

Should I build around Zeto or McLain??

Thanx!!
Brent Hershey
12:06
Thanks for your good work, Ross! Glad you can get a question in ...

I'd lean hard towards keeping McLain here; must more potential fantasy value long-term. The only consideration is whether he moves off SS and becomes a 2B or 3B longer-term; Neto more likely to play more games at SS over the course of his career. But McLain's bat is better at this point. Good luck!

Hi Brent, what are your thoughts on Javier Baez and Seth Brown ROS? I’m hopeful that the latter has simply gotten off to a slow first few months thanks to the oblique injury that kept him out for a while. The former…idk, I drafted him knowing that I might have to ride out a horrible first half like last year (I just hope ‘23 features the same 2H uptick). Ours is a deep, H2H keeper league with 16 teams. Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:11
Yeah, I have questions about both also ROS. With Báez, you know the potential is there for a hot streak, but it's gonna be ups and downs. Brown seems like a player to me that should be a good producer, but coming off the injury into that bad situation in OAK, you could see where it just spirals negatively for 2023. And I'm not sure that even in a league that deep, either has much keeper value. If comparing the two, I probably have a shorter leash with Brown than Báez for this season.

What to make of Matt Brash's whip? That h% is staggering, but is there something going on here that makes us think it will remain high sort of the same way slower runners tend to have a low h%?
Brent Hershey
12:15
Yeah, I think that astronomical WHIP is tied pretty directly to his just-as-astronomical h%. At some point that should correct, and if you want hope and /or reason to hold, he's cut his walk rate almost in half from 2022. At his age w/ his skill set and raw stuff, that's a very good sign. OTOH, it's not automatic that "luck" factors like h% correct in-season; sometimes they remain high all year. Just keep that in mind.
Ring the Bell
12:19
What to make of Josh Bell? Is he closer to a DFA or turning things around?
Brent Hershey
12:19
Given that binary choice, I think he's closer to turning things around than he is to get released by CLE. But do I feel warm and fuzzy about his prospects for a 2H rebound? Not really. Weird profile in that good (at times exceptional) Statcast metrics have not turned into production. Still just 30 years old; he'll still get some chances.

Thank you Brent for doing these chats and for BBHQ. Your thoughts on Vinnie Pasquantino in keeper leagues? I have him as my future 1B and now shoulder surgery. Your thoughts on his future would be greatly appreciated as I may need to try to find someone else. Thank you
Brent Hershey
12:20
Don't think this affects VinnieP's long-term outlook all that much. We'll want to look for signs that the shoulder is fully healed next spring of course, as no recovery is 100%, but right now I'd not be moving on from him as a foundational keeper in most leagues.

12:24
Do you think it's a good idea to stash CES in a 14 team league?
Brent Hershey
12:24
Seems like on the cusp of the leagues where I'd do that. Personally I'm not 100% convinced he hits the ground running -- though certainly his year so far (spring and MiLB seasons) have been impressive. I think part of it is that there's not a natural opening in the CIN lineup right now. Maybe they promote him anyway and let all those youngsters fight it out .. but that situation makes him susceptible to a shorter leash if he gets off slowly (they have other options). I'd probably wait for the call in this case.

12 team 5x5: What's going on with E. Rosario, is he returning to his 'old' form? N. Jones or Eddie? Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:29
Rosario is in a good spot right now, but be aware he's still not an everyday player -- since beginning of May, ATL has faced 7 LH starters, and he's only started one of those games (back on 5/4). I do think rest of season, I'd go with Rosario's track record at this point—though there is tons to like about Jones, also, who has been a mostly everyday player since his 5/26 debut.

Luis Matos or Adam Duvall this week only.....thank you!
Brent Hershey
12:31
Matos the better schedule; Duvall the better track record. I might lean Matos in this case.

What the general consensus on Kristian Robinsons future ?
Brent Hershey
12:34
Too early to tell. Lost a ton of precious development time with off-the-field troubles. Holding off on-the-field judgment until he gets this full season under his belt. Nothing remarkable in his stat line so far through 14 G.
bp
12:36
You can only have 1 rest of year in 5x5 OBP instead of AVG - Tatis, Jose Ramirez, Freeman. Who do you take and why?
Brent Hershey
12:36
Tatis; explosiveness of tools that include huge potential power/speed outcomes; probably best supporting lineup ROS.

12:41
Hi Brent,  what is your outlook for Grichuk in a 18-team mixed 5x5 (400 players rostered). Recent writeup indicates we should be starting only vs. lefties.  Any hope for a strong rebound?
Brent Hershey
12:41
In a league that deep, should obviously still have value. 1 HR is a fluke; has 14 doubles to still getting to some power. Statcast stuff says rebound potential is there -- barrels down (perhaps related to HR drought) but EVs (avg and Max) are fine. Playing a lot for COL now; but will that continue? Some questions there for sure.

Hi!

Quickie for you: Pick 2 for the week: Ozuna, Suwinski, Josh Bell, Stanton

Thanks a bunch!

Ozuna and Bell (CLE a good matchup week w/ OAK/MIL at home)

Abrams was a highly touted prospect, but he's still not hitting or running. For the past year plus I keep reading he needs to get stronger. Do you see any positives?
Brent Hershey
12:45
Some marginal improvements, yes; though more earlier in the season than recently. I saw him staying in against LHP and getting to some occasional pop. WAS does seem mostly committed to him, but remember that he's really young still and without a lot of high-minors experience. They are letting him learn on the job right now, which can be risky and not very fantasy friendly. Youth + athleticism two big pluses; but might take longer to arrive than we all hoped.
David
12:47
Brent, your thoughts on Rowdy Tellez? His contact rate is ok, but BA/XBA are bad. Your thoughts on keeper status? Thank you. I forgot to include him on my earlier on Pasquantino. Thank you
Brent Hershey
12:47
Seems like he's trending his way off keeper consideration with the flaws you mention. Could end up as a big-side platoon DH here in another season or two.

oops- message got debt before I finished! how much/percentage to bid on: Sheehan, J Amaya, Matos, H Davis?  Or just share your take on these guys ROS
Brent Hershey
12:50
Most interested in Matos, then Sheehan; probably both in the $5-7 range? Sheehan's walk risk is high; rookie catchers' hit rate is low; and though NL-only changes it a bit, I'm not sure Amaya has an impact bat as a rookie, let alone him finding a regular role. Matos probably your best bet (w/ standard rookie caveats).

Some good looking skills from Jesus Luzardo over the last month.  Big swing and miss, less walks, more gb - do you think there could be a big SP1 finish from him ROS?
Brent Hershey
12:52
Always a chance of this from Luzardo. Keep in mind MIA may cap his innings given age and previous workload history — especially if they fall out of the 2023 playoff picture. But right now, things are looking good and there's no reason not to run with him.

12:53
Grabbed Mark Vientos cheap when he came up. Worth holding on for value ROS or next year?
Brent Hershey
12:53
More a next year over this year play, but that NYM corner infield is crowded and he's not supplanting Pete/Baty anytime soon. Could earn some DH or maybe COR OF AB, but seems like a lot of "ifs", even looking towards 2024.

I am still looking at Bryce Miller as a "sell for anything with upside" situation.  Anything you see that would warrant a hold?
