Likely have to go experience here, as much as it might make you cringe and recency bias tells you to avoid. That said, I do like Alvarado and if you keep this in perspective of a "3d closer" and assuming that your other two are pretty stable, then I could see rolling the dice here and letting Helsley walk. He's definitely not without risk.

Good morning, Brent.  What is your ROS outlook for Jacob Melton in an 18 teamer? Is he a volatile power-speed lottery ticket ROS, or something more reliable?
Brent Hershey
12:57
Well, he mashed in spring training and is now doing the same in his low-level injury rehab. In an 18-teamer, I think he's a hold, as it seemed like he was very close before the April ankle injury. Get the sense that TB likes him (was a trade target). Could be a promotion in the wings July or early August if he goes to AAA and hits.

Looking for a versatile UT, thinking '27, and throwing a buck at Kriedler, Loftin or Vilade, what do you think?
Brent Hershey
12:58
Not the profile I'd be throwing a buck at for 2027. Vilade probably the closest, but frankly I'd keep searching.

Brent - Who is better ROS - Robert Suarez or Bryan Baker.  And any skinny on Bubic or Abel?  I was hoping at least one was on their way back, but both suffer setbacks?  Ay carumba...
Brent Hershey

Baker; and Abel, though the SP all dependent on his imaging, which I think is taking place today.

Welcome back, Brent. NL-only, 12-team, 5 x 5. Tied for 1st, and hunting for saves (to augment Mason Miller). I have a chance to acquire Fairbanks at reasonable cost, but he would appear to be a good as good a bet as anyone to be dealt at the deadline. Shop elsewhere? Not a lot of available options.
Brent Hershey

Make the deal for Fairbanks; adjust at the deadline if you have to. There are articles written every year on "how could Team X not trade Player Y?"

Hi Brent- thanks for the chats!  In a H2H points league, start Taylor Ward or Bleday (both with 6 gms.) this week?  Ward appears to have better matchups but the power has been lacking.  Thx!

Bleday

Speed round: Is the correct 5x5 ranking ROS: O. Lopez >(big gap)> W. Castro > Taveras > Calihan.   I don't know what to make of Calihan.
Brent Hershey

Agreed on both.

Who would you prefer this coming week for saves, Josh Hader or David Bednar? I think Bednar has better matchups, and the chance for more saves, especially going against the likes of Boston (4 games), but Hader probably has better ratios and strikeouts. However, my main goal this week is trying to accumulate as many saves as possible. Thank you much!
Brent Hershey

Don't overthink it. I'd pick the better pitcher - Hader for me.

Is the wind still at my back for the second half? I have delivered $15 in 5x5 so far.  Can I deliver $18-20 in the second half?
Brent Hershey

Close to that, yes. Mechanical changes

Deep 5x5 NL-only. Need a catcher. Which of  Fulford, Sullivan, Pages, Marchan, Henry Davis, Duran, or Torrens? Or should I just take a few weeks of empty stats until my catcher comes off the IL?
Brent Hershey
1:05
Fulford or Davis; hope they run into a couple

Keith of Tigers is lifting ball with decent exit velo. He reminds me of Crews of Nats who is  improving but having bad luck. What do see in ROS for him?
Brent Hershey

Good signs around except for power so far. Liked him in the offseason. Can see where he'd settle in.

Brent, do you people at HQ have any season long data that says the hi leverage pitching usage leads to more victories. as along timepitching coach my experience showed that 1. pitchers want to know their roles. 2.the last 3 outs are the hardest and have one guy to get them. but it seeems this hi lev is a made up thing to justify decisions based on no oevuidence. like the #3 hitter.your thoughts please, thank you
Brent Hershey

The high leverage metric as we use it at BHQ is not meant to lead to more victories, but describes how a manager chooses to use their bullpen members. It's a formula that takes into account runners on, time of the game, etc — describing the situation that a reliever most often encounters. We use it as a proxy to recognize the trust level of the manager/staff, which can at times lead to save opportunities. Hope this helps!
