Howdy, Monday chatters! Sorry for the short delay; been a day already here on the homefront. But let's spend an hour a-chattin' ....

Hi Brent,

16 team H2H points league. $430 cap, 40 player roster - 23 active & 17 bench. Deep league. We start 5 SPs and 6 RPs with the caveat that RPs don't start - RPs only. Of particular pitching significance is that QS=8 pts, W=L=4 pts. QS are vary important. I rely a lot on HQ's SP Match-Up Ratings.

My top 3 SP are almost no-brainers: (1) Valdez vs PHI, vs CHC, (2) Bubic vs TB, vs LAD, (3) Woo @MIN, @TEX - though KC is limiting Bubics' IP and #2 start is problematic.

The 4th and 5th SP must come from:
!) Bibee vs TOR (+0.7)
2) Boyd @STL (-0.1)
3) Cabrera @SF (-0.1)
4) May @KC (-0.5)
5) G. Williams vs TOR (-0.5)

I guess Bibee & Boyd are my best options though Boyd's start seems at risk. The problem is that May was decent enough in his last start and seems a safe start. Both Williams & Cabrera pitched very well. Recency bias I know, but it's tempting to start that pair instead.

Thanks as always for your efforts on our behalf.
Brent Hershey
12:07
Would go ratings for Bibee, and then recency bias for Cabrera. Thanks for the kind words!

Thanks again for these! AL only, standard rotis, keeper league. 1. Will Grant Taylor stick as Chisox closer? 2. How long till Jack Perkins slots into the A’s rotation and how do you see his numbers?
Brent Hershey
12:13
  1. Taylor has as much opp + skills as anyone in that pen right now. Via that, he has the best chance of "sticking" -- though also has all the rookie caveats
  2. Interested for sure, esp given that massive MiLB K rate. That rotation seems in a perpetual state of flux, so I'd think it's only a week or two before they give him a shot

mixed league 5x5 12 teams
which SS: Correa Boegarts or Adames ?

who returns first Harper or N Marte?
thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:15
Correa, and Harper — though jury still out of whether that's a good thing -- IE, could easily seem him rushing back. My opinion, but worrisome that this is a leftover injury from 2024.

What do you expect for Sandy Alcantara ROS?
Brent Hershey
12:16
Up and down, but more starts like the last few — not golden-era Sandy, but good enough in many cases.

Hi Brent...having a supplemental draft this Thursday for an AL only Scoresheet league...trying to read as much on Brandon Walter as possible with the idea of drafting him.  As someone who drafted him years ago when he was with Boston and having him (seemingly) fizzle out, I don't want to get burned again.  Can you provide any insight on his recent success...has he changed his approach or is he just on a heater?
Brent Hershey
12:18
Intrigued for sure. Not sure you can really get 'burned' in a mid-season Scoresheet supplemental; most of us are taking long shots here, depending on league depth. Fact that he's lefthanded helps,  MiLB numbers look good, and as you say this round of MLB starts have been solid under the hood. Give it a go.

12:19
Which 2 start option you like better this week? Verlander or ERod?
Brent Hershey
12:19
I trust Verlander more than ERod right now; think this is a "moxie" two-step vs. young MIA and CWS squads.

I picked up Schanuel recently a week or two after he was mentioned in this chat, and he hasn't disappointed! My dynasty league has both AVG and OBP as categories (and SLG instead of HR), so prime years looking like .315/.380/.440 while hitting atop the lineup could be pretty valuable.

It's too bad Danzel Clarke took one away!

Anyway, please let me know if my analysis makes sense!
Brent Hershey
12:22
SLG projection there might be a little high ... but on the other hand he's always had the hit tool/OBA base and has shown surprising power this season. Tentatively optimistic here on Schanuel.

And yes, Clarke is fun to watch, but right now not fantasy relevant.

Good morning Brent! I have a question about the rating for Lodolo this week. He's rated high with 2 starts at home this week against NYY and SD; however, the home/road split article by Stephen Nickrand shows he has been almost unusable at home.

I'm curious if the home/road splits are factored into the ratings.
Brent Hershey
12:25
Simple answer is that the tool considers home/road splits on a aggregate level, but not for each individual pitcher. Those can be fairly noisy, but also hard to ignore in a case like this. Here's a research article with more: https://www.baseballhq.com/articles/research/studies/research-home-and...

12:26
Hi Brent.  Thank you for doing these!  H2H points league. Do you think I should start Clarke Schmidt vs the Athletics or Nick Lodolo double dipping vs the NYY and the Padres at GABP?  Thank you!
Brent Hershey
12:26
More Lodolo ... even with the question above, I think you take the two-step in this case, though Schmidt's recent trends make it a tough choice.

Brent!! Another Monday!!!

Quick SS discussion. Where would you rank Neto in the dynasty SS discussion? It looks like he'll have 30/30 potential for the next few years, with a .260-280 potential. Do you think his plate skills improve as he matures?

I just want to make sure I'm valuing him properly! Thanks!
Brent Hershey
12:32
Love players like Neto - multiple category contributor early in his career; solid base of skills; team likes to run (at least letting him run). These types of players can continue to improve, so, yes, I think you're right to be excited. Top 10 SS ceiling, maybe? Not sure he gets into the Witt/Elly/Betts/Lindor Cruz stratosphere, but future is bright

ROS drop one (OBP as opposed to Ave): C Cowser, B Doyle , C Walker , R Anthony
Brent Hershey
12:32
Doyle for me
10-team 5x5 AL-only
12:33
I'm looking for a fifth outfielder in AL-only, and wonder if you see second half value in either Luke Raley or Lane Thomas, where Harrison Bader and Dylan Carlson are on the waiver wire.
Brent Hershey
12:33
Would rate Raley over the other three by a pretty good margin.
dobs
12:34
ROS B Chandler , E Sheehan , L Roupp.
Brent Hershey
12:34
Roupp has shown most at MLB level, though Sheehan interesting. Chandler's recent struggles, no MLB experience hurt him in a case like this.

Hey Brent,I have Jordan Lawler and I am waiting his return from the minors. My question is do you expect him to be back soon and what should we expect from him. He was the top N.L. prospect on HQ 100…are you still high on him
Brent Hershey
12:35
Yep, think you have to hold. Not sure HOW it might work, but skills are explosive enough that if you have the room, keep him. Think he'd already be up on many MLB teams; just roadblocked for the moment in ARI

Appears Adley will be gone for a good month.
Is the obvious choice the right choice... Giancarlo?
Other top options in this One Catcher, 10TM AL-only-OB 5x5 keeper league include in alphabetic order:
Garver, Heineman, Naylor and Thaiss.
Other possible factors: Very competitive league with five teams battling for second and third, and two--a few points ahead of the pack--battling for first. My team could do better in Runs and RBIs. Adley is in the last year of his contract.
Brent Hershey
12:36
Yes, you probably should chase Stanton I guess. Naylor more than the other three catchers.
Beano
12:39
Hi Brent! As always, thanks for these. NL 10 team 5x5. Vientos is due up soon and I'm not at all sure that's a good thing. I have Baty for $1 and he's not even playing! (will he be the guy they send down?) I wonder if I should FAAB J Ortiz - who seems to be coming out of his funk and waiving Baty?

I also have Imanga coming back - is N Martinez a guy I should waive to make room? (My others: Casparius, BBrown, Strider, Quintana,Birdsong, Palencia, E Diaz, RRogriguez ---
And, finally, is D Fuentes a guy I want to FAAB and keep on my team for this year and next?
Brent Hershey
12:39
In an NL-only, yeah, maybe you take that Ortiz shot. PT is king, and he has it for now; I'm unsure about how that NYM 3B spot will play out.

Yes to waiting Martinez for Imanaga; if you can get Fuentes for cheap and not be forced to play him, then OK. Don't think I'd move any of your other P for him if that was the case.
Michael
12:40
Hi Brent, NL only. Been hurt by starting pitcher injuries. What do you think about junk and Fuentes ?
Brent Hershey
12:40
In this case, Fuentes is worth a shot in hopes of bottled lightening. Junk an OK backup bid I guess, but not overly optimistic his success holds.
Ron
12:41
Happy Monday, Brent.  I am leading my 12-team mixed redraft (we score OBP, SLG, IP, QS as extra cats) and have been offered a 3-way trade where I give up good second tier players but would ultimately get Alonso for Olson and H. Brown for Pivetta.  Do you agree that these are major upgrades worthy of roster sacrifices?
Brent Hershey
12:41
Yes; the Pivetta-to-Brown upgrade alone could be worth it; and in a redraft, Alonso beats Olson for sure on vibes alone
Sean

Hi Brent, what are thoughts on Strahm? Does he have a big second half in a SOLDs league?
