Greets, Monday chatters! Some of you may have noticed we missed last week; apologies for that. But back strong now as we enter the mid-season. Lotsa Qs in the queue; feel free to keep adding. Let's get started ...
Jimmy

Welcome back, Brent! I was desperate for a replacement bat for Michael Harris II, and thus far Jarred Kelenic has filled in swimmingly. He's hitting vs. LHP. Do I have your permission to get excited?

Jimmy
Brent Hershey
12:07
Thanks, Jimmy ... I'd hold off on "excited" for now; sample size still too small. BUT ... let's roll with it for the time being. He is getting regular PT now against both sides of the plate; maybe he needed that. Could well be the jump-start he needed, and given Duvall's trend, maybe he becomes a full-timer once Harris returns. Full disclosure: I've been a sucker for JK's talent since his prospect days, though.

Quick and fun dynasty question for you =) Who's more apt to be a sneaky contributor to a H2H fantasy champion this year: Sal Frelick, Luis Rengifo, or Brendan Donovan? (BA + OBP league)

Thanks as always!!
Brent Hershey
12:08
Rengifo. Think his real-life flexibility and the mess of LAA's roster ensures him more PT than the other 2.

Brent, I have the chance to trade Bo Bichette for Seager in my dynasty league. Am I crazy to think that I'd rather have Seager's next 4-5 years than Bo's?

Be my guide, Brent!
Brent Hershey
12:10
Not crazy at all -- I'd want Seager, too. Not totally losing faith in Bichette, but the ups and downs are maddening, and that squad is not in a good place right now. Super interested if he gets a change of scenery, but I wouldn't count on that if I had a chance to nab Seager right now.

Brent, Thank you as always for doing this. ’m coming up on a roster crunch and could use some advice. In a dynasty 5x5 OBP league. Right now I have Josh Jung, Eloy Jimenez (although based on what I saw Sunday he can’t run and should be back on the IL) coming off the IL this week. On my roster is have picked up Andy Pages, Colton Cowser, Tyler Black and Jorge Soler to help me survive. I’m going to have to drop two of them. Who would you want to hold on for this year and are any of them players I will kick myself for giving up on next year?
Brent Hershey
12:15
Staying with the theme of talented players who can't seem to get it together for fantasy purposes ... out of your list, I truly think Eloy is cut #1 in a dynasty OBP. The string of injuries, the cruddy OBP. Then probably Black? Just in terms of not being a traditional corner IF bat, and not 100% convinced MIL is dedicated to him. Although, if you want to keep options open and especially if you're more in a future-years mode than right now, could also see trimming Soler, just in terms of him not being able to stay healthy. Good luck; seems like a nice core.

Welcome back. Some AL-only injury related Qs. 1) Are Ryan Jeffers and Nate Lowe hiding an injury,? Jeffers’ BA and power have cratered for more than a month. 2) What are the power prospects of B.Lowe playing with a broken pinky toe, and Jung coming back from a broken wrist?
Brent Hershey
12:19
Yeah, these are tough ..
1) Maybe; especially since Jeffers has taken that dive from what looked like early-season growth. N Lowe still hitting ball hard, but def a disappointment overall
2) Jung a bit concerning more than B Lowe, I would think. Wrist injuries can — but not all the time — sap power upon returns. But if you drafted Jung and are needing punch, you've probably waited it out, so I think you probably roll with it and just see where it goes.

Hi Brett,

Thanks for the opportunity to get your advice.
16 team H2H Points League. We start 5 SPs but my SP stock of healthy SPs has been reduced to Bibee, Bobby Miller, Woo, Civale and Maeda. Ouch! I picked Hogan Harris on the off-chance he might be a better option than Maeda or Civale.

Which 2 do I start? Civale v WAS, Maeda v LAA, Harris v ARI.

I'm leaning Civale and Harris, though there's not much to choose between Harris and Maeda.
Brent Hershey
12:21
Yes, our numbers say Civale for sure, and then probably Harris.

Is Chris Morel a buy, hold or sell in a 12 team mixed? His plate skills have improved, but could he really lose his job to defense?
Brent Hershey
12:26
If I had him, I'd hold ... and if I didn't maybe I'd buy? Yes, defense is rough, but Cubs don't really have any other options, and they need his power in the lineup. Our xBA measure says he "should" be hitting .240; if that was the case, there would likely be less issue. The pop is for real and gotta think the Cubs know that.

12:30
Thoughts on Yelich ROS? Is he a top 15-20 OF in 5x5?
Brent Hershey
12:30
Nothing really looks amiss ... maybe BA comes down a bit. The health of his back is the most pressing issue. We know he hit more bombs if he could elevate more, but his well-rounded game makes up for it. And without doing the list, he's probably in that top 20-25 OF range, sure. But you live with the injury risk.

12:31
Is Vaughn Grissom worth holding on to in keep-forever OPS dynasty? His minor league promise has never really been realized in the bigs. Because of injuries, he's burning a bench spot.
Brent Hershey
12:31
I think I'd lean "no" if you're getting squeezed for spots; even with his relative youth.
Talisker
12:32
Hi Brent, what do you make of Hans Crouse on LAA? Crazy K  numbers. Any long term chance he could snag a high leverage role if Estevez is traded? Thanks
Brent Hershey
12:32
Pretty long shot ... but does fit the type of a former top prospect who's been forgotten about. Still a lot of walks. Would probably prefer Ben Joyce over him for 2024 if you want to play the "if traded" game.

12:36
Good morning Brent-I am in a 5x5 12 team dynasty league and taking some injury hits lately. I need to replace Charlie Blackmon and wanted your thoughts on when Garrett Mitchell or Tommy Edman might be back and how they might perform rest of season? I also lost Luzardo and Braxton Garrett in the last few days-these pitchers are available Landon Knack, Davis Peterson, Josiah Gray (on IR but back end of June, Ryan Walker and Dylan Floro-any thoughts on these pitchers rest of year? Thanks in advance-Greg
Brent Hershey
12:36
Prefer Mitchell slightly to Edman, though not 100% sure where he fits into the current MIL lineup. Edman's drawn-out rehab is a concern as far as hitting the ground running.
I'd rank the pitchers for ROS as Peterson, Knack (he'd be highest if I knew he had a spot), Gray ... then a sizable gap to Walker/Floro. Could see trying to get ahead of things with Knack ... but again, immediate future is murky in terms of if he'll stay up.

Good morning, is there a website forecasting when players are going to go on the paternity list? Thank you for your thoughts
Brent Hershey

Sounds like a market inefficiency. Go for it.

NL-only, 5x5.  I have to decide whether to extend Pete Crow-Armstrong.  Do you think he eventually becomes the "real" thing?
Brent Hershey
12:38
Yes, I do ... but would love to have this full year to evaluate. Cubs' usage and PCA's own development through 2024 would be a big driver of that decision.

Points league and have to pick one of those for my DH spot: a burelson, m Garcia, Rengifo

Assuming for this week, I'd ride the Burleson hot hand

What are your expectations for Gleyber ROS? Worth holding in 12 team mixed w/OPS instead of BA? Schneemann is available in FA. Also, would you rather have Ober or Waldron or neither in 12 team mixed ROS? Need to open a spot for Darvish soon.
Brent Hershey
12:41
Gleyber - always going to be a question of what your other options are. Still prefer him over Schneemann, for instance -- but def would keep eyes open. Could find a better thing in 12s.
Ober > Waldron, no question. K upside helps tip that scale.
Rehabbers
12:44
Good morning, Among those rehabing starting pitchers : a-cobb d-may k-bubic e-cabrera r-ray blackburn d-rasmussen t-mahle jo-gray c-cavalli : please rank in order of the best contributors in 2024. Thank you for your thoughts
Brent Hershey
12:44
Mostly, I'd lean towards guys who have done it before, so I'd start Ray / Rasmussen / Mahle / maybe Cobb. Then Cavalli and May -- younger "stuff" guys who could click. And throw my hands up on the rest.

Do the Cubs make a change at closer?  Who had the best indicators to be successful between Neris, Thompson, Miller, Brewer?
Brent Hershey
12:52
Frankly, can't believe they haven't moved on from Neris already. If you're a BHQ subscriber, this bullpen indicators chart can help you on questions like this a ton. Filtering by CHC, Miller kinda bubbles up, but hasn't been used in high-leverage much. Not really enough data yet on Brewer/Thompson, but seems like Brewer might have the best skills to take it over. No clear-cut guy -- and maybe that's why Neris remains.
